I worked on this at Twitter in 2015. IIRC we tested it and most people didn't get any views and we had to have some thresholds before showing it as "0 views" was depressing
We also wanted to be accurate and not count if someone quickly scrolls past your tweet in their TL
Twitter is rolling out View Count, so you can see how many times a tweet has been seen! This is normal for video.
Shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem, as over 90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions.

when they used the custom loader, people blamed Facebook for the slowness. when they used the system spinner, people assumed their phone/ios was the issue.

finally added a dark mode which was quite nice with oklch() + v4 theme vars. i made it greenish to complement my warm light mode.

Rewind is my life’s work. Since I’ll be working on this for decades I had a very high bar for who I work with, especially when it comes to co-founders. Both my other co-founder @brettbejcek, and now Stammy, originally joined the team as an employee but through their impact proved they were already doing the job of co-founder. Promoting someone to the role of co-founder might be atypical, but I believe should be the norm. If someone is already doing the job, they should have the title & recognition that goes with it. While Brett and Stammy weren’t with the company on day 1, a few decades from now that won’t matter. They both have been critical to our success and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.
So what did Stammy do that demonstrated he was already playing the role of co-founder? He has embodied our cultural values of 🏎️ Resourcefulness, 🧹 Ownership, and ❤️ Integrity exceptionally well. with the news of openai potentially acquiring windsurf, i'm just left wondering how github fumbled the ball on ai so hard.
github is a strong business so this is not a huge knock on them but.. they could have had it all. they have all developers. they know the space and have talent that should know all about what's needed for building tools like windsurf/cursor.
they had initial traction with copilot so it can't be entirely innovator's dilemma.
culture changing after being owned by large msft + lack of upside for new talent + early talent leaving? or am i totally off base and github copilot usage is massive (esp w enterprise) and it's just X sample bias about cursor/windsurf?
