I worked on this at Twitter in 2015. IIRC we tested it and most people didn't get any views and we had to have some thresholds before showing it as "0 views" was depressing We also wanted to be accurate and not count if someone quickly scrolls past your tweet in their TL
Twitter is rolling out View Count, so you can see how many times a tweet has been seen! This is normal for video. Shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem, as over 90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions.

my favorite related insight from 10+ years ago was when Facebook had their own custom loader. when they used the custom loader, people blamed Facebook for the slowness. when they used the system spinner, people assumed their phone/ios was the issue.
Look at these 2 UIs. One of them will 100% outperform the other for one reason: The Doherty Threshold. Here's how this psychological principle works & how to use it in your products:

people forget how influential Palm webOS was. lots of modern iOS uses similar patterns. palm was basically the OpenAI of their time. such talent density that Steve Jobs had to threaten them to stop poaching. • horizontal app card multitasking w/ flick up to quit • edge swipe gesture nav for back nav and quick app switching • swipe away banner notifications • swipe down system tray (like Control Center) • "Just type..." global search bar • threaded messaging • magnetic charging puck called Touchstone (like MagSafe)

Eight years at Twitter! 🙌 That’s the longest an IC designer has been with Twitter. Here because I still believe in the mission, love the product and team. Not here because I’m “comfy” or lazy. Talked to dozens of companies over the years, this is still where I want to be.

history repeats itself. this happened 20 years ago but with iPods. people would bring their first generation firewire iPod into a CompUSA/MicroCenter/Frys, connect to an iMac G3 and steal Office for OS X among other apps.
I went to the 5th Avenue Apple Store today and AirDropped myself the entire suite of Apple Pro Apps Basically stole $600 worth of software from the Apple Store lol

There’s 2 kinds of designers: First, you have the scientists. They tend to view product design as something to be tamed with rules and systems. They have a principle for everything, they have their grids, they know the second any platform’s interface guidelines are updated.

Some personal news: I've been promoted to Co-Founder of @RewindAI. I've never been so continually excited to wake up and work with our talented and fast-moving team. It's what I've been looking for in my career. We've got a lot more in store. ⚡️ More from @dsiroker:
I met @Stammy winter 2010 when we were in YC together working on different startups. He joined us at @RewindAI before we launched and has been instrumental to our success. In recognition of his impact, we’ve decided to promote him to Co-Founder! More context:👇 Rewind is my life’s work. Since I’ll be working on this for decades I had a very high bar for who I work with, especially when it comes to co-founders. Both my other co-founder @brettbejcek, and now Stammy, originally joined the team as an employee but through their impact proved they were already doing the job of co-founder. Promoting someone to the role of co-founder might be atypical, but I believe should be the norm. If someone is already doing the job, they should have the title & recognition that goes with it. While Brett and Stammy weren’t with the company on day 1, a few decades from now that won’t matter. They both have been critical to our success and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today. So what did Stammy do that demonstrated he was already playing the role of co-founder? He has embodied our cultural values of 🏎️ Resourcefulness, 🧹 Ownership, and ❤️ Integrity exceptionally well. In fact, his peers all gave him 5 out of 5 on these three values in the last 360. Not only that but he also has been exceptional at 🥇 Quality, 👋 Support,❗ Prioritization, 🌎 Empathy, 😊 Trust, 🤗 Belonging, and 👂 Communication (all 4.8 or higher). As we say in our culture memo, the primary goal of our values are to help us succeed as a company. If we exhibit all of these values, then “the score take care of itself”. Here’s the culture memo: rewindai.notion.site/Culture… Not only has Stammy embodied our cultural values exceptionally well, but it has also translated directly to real victories as a company. Every major launch and initiative we’ve brought to life has been better because of him. He is the first to jump in and tackle whatever the company needs. From designing (and then redesigning) our website, to a delightful “share feedback” experience, to helping design & build a fantastic iPhone app, to hiring two world-class designers, and to recently learning how to design & build a Windows app. He never ceases to amaze me. As one of his peers wrote in the last 360, “Stammy is perfection.”

with the news of openai potentially acquiring windsurf, i'm just left wondering how github fumbled the ball on ai so hard. github is a strong business so this is not a huge knock on them but.. they could have had it all. they have all developers. they know the space and have talent that should know all about what's needed for building tools like windsurf/cursor. they had initial traction with copilot so it can't be entirely innovator's dilemma. culture changing after being owned by large msft + lack of upside for new talent + early talent leaving? or am i totally off base and github copilot usage is massive (esp w enterprise) and it's just X sample bias about cursor/windsurf?
