It has been the honor of my life to serve our nation in the United States Senate on such a special year, celebrating 250 years of American independence and exceptionalism. This year, I am struck by the ingenuity, courage, and profound faith of our founding fathers in creating a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. They believed in the idea of a free America so deeply that they were willing to fight and die for it.
