Growing up @brianmoore666 would probably have fallen firmly in the "baddie" camp for me as a young loon, but over the lifetime of this site have grown to appreciate him as a fine commentator, pundit and human being. Read his autobiography: Rugby is the stronger with him involved.
Scottish people, Scotland fans and rugby selectors are not going to apologise for being welcoming to players who come to make a life here within the current eligibility framework, nor for being mad shaggers worldwide since the days of empire. Get it right up ye.
Also, we don't win that game without that performance from Chris Harris, who shut down so many French attacks when they were hunting for the wingers to target...
Mrs asking why I'm so miserable after that? No team that wants to be taken seriously in the tournament should:
- give away a 27pt advantage
- be unable to deal with shifts in momentum compounding error on error
Ireland miles ahead of everybody
That's an awful decision by the officials but to be honest if Scotland showed a bit of ambition early in the second half and that was put to bed. We can't be doing the old thing of competing bravely in the dying minutes in matches we've lead all game
Finn seemed like he had a quiet game but got a funny feeling when I watch it back I'll see he is, as usual, leaving himself open to late hits to make space for others + stopping the many runners who charged down his channel. "Mercurial" maybe but he does that stuff pretty well.
Smith probably did create more than Russell this afternoon, but watching him hotstep then get smashed into touch just short of the line by Sione in the dying minutes was just *chef's kiss*
A little thought for you, in their last 14 games Scotland have only lost to the teams ranked 1-3. Yeah we're not able to match SA(2) or Ire(1), but we've beaten France (3). Maybe cheers up Monday a bit while everyone heads home.
To all the Welsh fans asking how to become Scotland fans here's a simple guide:
1) Take the aching feeling you got losing that grand slam in the last minute, but dial it back to be say just the result of any game (we don't go for GS)
2) Multiply by 2 decades
3) Wear tartan
Here's a question: should a HIA be mandatory for anyone who has just been the victim of a red card worthy head contact? You either got hit on your head or you didn't...
Congrats to Harry Paterson on his first cap, huge occasion and he stepped up big time. We may or may not get BK back in a couple of weeks, but there will be plenty more caps in Harry's future
As heartbreaking as this day has been for rugby fans and Scotland rugby fans, I have no doubt there will also be so many heartwarming and probably hilarious Doddie stories emerging over the coming days and weeks...
England showed how to shut down Finn effectively. But you now have to shut down Sione and Huw as well. Something defences haven't had to look at from us in a good few seasons. Fun times ahead...
Very disappointing for Scotland but we didn't do enough to get out of the pool. Yes we might have prospered in C or D but the draw is the draw. We simply don't show up for big games, and I don't know why.
Even if Mish and Darcy are fit, assuming no other injury worries, I wouldn't make any changes to the 23 ahead of France. These lads have done brilliantly so far.
Boys should be allowed to celebrate tonight. Be a mark of them if they opted not to though wouldn't it? Plenty work still to be done; huge trip to Paris in 2 wks. But that was objectively our best #6Nations start, ever. And that, for long suffering Scotland fans, is something.
Dear South African Rugby Twitter: welcome to Scotland. We will now show you how whinging about being underdogs works in the real world (ie when you aren't consistently in the top teams in the world). Firstly, start with a whinge (see above). Yellow circles optional
Redpath looked supremely confident for a first test and will now be very hard to shift in that shirt. Imagine him, Hoggy and Finn clicking on a dry track?
How in the hell can so many French fans get tickets when it's so hard for Scotland fans to get em? Is Ticketmaster nice in France? Is it just another thing we can blame on Brexit, toileting the currency?

I thought we might sneak it. But that performance was huge, despite in places being frankly possession free, never saw that coming. Hands, set piece good. Counter attack absolutely superb. Credit to Kinghorn off the bench.
So many standout performers across the team but both Fagersons, Dempsey, Cummings. You could see they were tired, but they just keep going. Huge. Key efforts from Sione, Huw, Mckay...and George Horne was immense
I know the 2019 edition was wild, but it was uneven. For me, today was a better game of rugby. The tries were higher quality, the result certainly from a Scottish point of view!
The best Calcutta Cup in years?
If you said our three wins would be in Paris and London plus a stuffing of Italy I'd say a) brilliant and b) how the hell did we lose to Wales and Ireland at home?!
White, Jones, Tuipulotu and Russell were all excellent but the wings were quiet and the pack suffered being a man down. Turner the pick of them for me.
Scotland will get the historic win in Cardiff. But looks like no try BP, Wales with two BPs and emerge with a lot of credit after looking amateur. Horrific second half by Scotland who also looked amateur, which is a real worry for the rest of the tournament. 26-27 #WALvSCO
Staying at Scotstoun ✍️
@HRFJones will remain a Glasgow Warrior after signing a new contract extension with the club 😍

Toony is right, Scotland were deadly calm for about 78 mins of that. Ever seen Scotland look that assured in so many facets of the game? My only gripe is, more points from the boot required...
Hoggy (after several days on the lash) "I think it is almost a guarantee that 1 of the northern hemisphere teams will knock over [SA]. I think it is the team that is actually going to play a fair bit of rugby against them." He's talking about us, right?
Darge and Ben White were the best players on the park, total cop out giving it to Fickou again. As usual, Scotland shot themselves in the foot by not applying pressure when they should have and leaving it too late. Christie also excellent off the bench.
Ali Price will have played 3 Lions tests; Duhan will have started 3. That's not nothing. Delighted to see Finn on the bench and gutted for Hoggy and the other lads who will miss out.
I think we can all agree that the main taking point from yesterday is that the Scotland kit makes them look like they're all running round with their shorts pulled down
Nightmare scenario: I'm warming up to Dan Biggar. Don't tell the guys. He was very good today in the sort of way Scotland are badly lacking at the core of their team when the chips are down: providing grit, stability, focus. No flapping arms or falling over either.
How's everyone feeling today? I'm actually most disappointed by the lack of bonus point but with the benefit of hindsight pretty pleased to get a first win in Cardiff in 22 years
Given the nonsense Dickson is letting Ireland away with at ruck time, hard to see them not keeping the foot on the throat for this one, especially with a man advantage
That was far closer than I thought it would be. Played that way round, Horne Rowe and Redpath were excellent off the bench and used at the right time. No Triple Crown, and another hugely frustrating tournament overall.
Snark aside, genuinely delighted for all the Scottish players picked for that @lionsofficial test team. Huge congratulations and all well deserved! If you said 2 years ago our major gripe would be that Chris Harris *isn't* starting for the Lions we would, I expect, have chuckled.
England v Wales has now replaced Scotland v Italy as the "should we even still have these guys in the tournament" fixture, right? Sure to be fireworks nonetheless... #WALvENG
Scottish lads doing more in the first six minutes of this game than they've been given the chance to do over the last 3-4 tours. Loving this so far... Mish with the try
That feels like a huge missed opportunity as Scotland were in control of that going into the final quarter. Reminds me a lot of the ABs game, in which we also fluffed our lines
Ten minutes to play, Adam Hastings gets flattened from behind - after calling a mark - by Furlong and Van Der Flier. Brushes it off. Doesn't roll about on the ground, or ask for a penalty.
🤩 The time has come to pick your winner for Try of the Round 🙌
🏴 Ben White
🏴 Fraser Dingwall
🇫🇷 Gaël Fickou
☘️ James Lowe

Having an Argentinian sit on the independent disciplinary panel for Richie Gray a week ahead of the Scotland v Argentina game is a great look as usual from @WorldRugby
Positives: Scotland didn't capitulate, we weren't hammered, the ref didn't (totally) screw us over. Just weren't good enough to get over the line when we had the big mo.
By 20 mins in Ire had had one chance = 5 points, we had multiple entries into the 22 and not even 3 taken. That was our chance to get into the game, right there, and we didn't take it.
That might have been big Richie's last game in a Scotland shirt. Thought he was one of the best players in the second half, but a miserable way to end it
