My grandmother was liberated from Bergen Belsen. She was so sick she couldn’t tolerate the food they fed her on liberation day. She spent months in a hospital in Sweden physically recovering and she spent the rest of her life emotionally recovering.
On this day 80 years ago the British troops liberated Bergen Belsen.
What they found there was unimaginable horror.
People had been left dying of typhus and with no food for weeks.
There were bodies everywhere.
