The driver was unable to produce the required documentation proving ownership of the vehicle. Preliminary enquiries revealed that he was not the registered owner and alleged that he had borrowed the vehicle. It is reported that the owner of the tuckshop, who is a foreign national, had arranged with the landlord to store his stock in the main house. This was after he heard that there was looting of tuckshops belonging to foreign nationals in the area. The landlord allegedly consumed some of the biscuits and shared them with his nephew. Shortly afterwards, both of them started feeling dizzy and vomiting. They were taken to a local medical facility where they were certified dead on arrival. The source of the biscuits and the cause of death will be determined through post-mortem examinations. On Wednesday, 08/07 members of the NIU operationalised intell and proceeded to Pelican Heights, Muizenberg. An operation was put into place and the two vehicles were pulled over at Seagull Street, Pelican Heights, and searched. In a Hyundai vehicle, members found an AK 47 without a serial number and a camouflage box with a large amount of ammo. Three suspects including a 27yr-old female and two males, aged 38 and 42, were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The exhibits were handed in for further processing. This case will be investigated by the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime.
