On the evening of Wednesday, 08 July 2026, at approximately 21:30, members conducting tracking and tracing operations in the Ehlanzeni policing area received information regarding the alleged #kidnapping of a 51-year-old man from Mzinti. The victim had reportedly been abducted while driving his white Toyota Fortuner with Mpumalanga registration plates. The information was immediately operationalised, and members launched a coordinated search in identified hotspot areas. Their efforts led to the recovery of the Toyota Fortuner at a sugarcane farm adjacent to the local sugar mill. The victim was found unharmed inside the vehicle and was safely rescued. He was subsequently taken to Tonga Police Station, where he was reunited with his family. No arrests have been effected at this stage. Police investigations are continuing to identify, trace and apprehend those responsible for the kidnapping. Community members were encouraged to speak out against all forms of abuse, support victims of crime, and report perpetrators to ensure they are brought to justice. It is alleged that the victim was kidnapped by the suspects at her business premises and forced into a white Volkswagen Polo before they fled the scene. Following the incident, members of the SAPS National Crime Intelligence Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the SAPS Gauteng Crime Intelligence Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately launched an intelligence-driven investigation. The SAPS Hostage Negotiation Team was activated to provide support to the victim's family and assist with negotiations throughout the operation. #sapsNC [NAMAKWA SAPS RECOVERS STOLEN TOYOTA HILUX AT BORDER POST] On Thursday, 09 July 2026, a 48-year-old male reportedly arrived at the Vioolsdrif Border Post, between South Africa and Namibia, driving a white Toyota Hilux GD-6 Double Cab. The vehicle was allegedly en route from South Africa to Namibia. During routine border inspections, SAPS members stationed at the search point conducted verification checks on the vehicle. The driver was unable to produce the required documentation proving ownership of the vehicle. Preliminary enquiries revealed that he was not the registered owner and alleged that he had borrowed the vehicle. Furthermore, the driver failed to produce the required cross-border clearance letter from the bank as it was ascertained that the vehicle had been purchased during July 2026. With the assistance of members attached to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), and following verification through relevant systems, it was confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. During ongoing investigations into stock theft-related cases and enquiries, police recovered a number of cattle that are currently being kept at the Lichtenburg Animal Pound. Unfortunately, the animals do not have identifiable brand markings, making it difficult to determine their rightful owners. The recovered cattle are linked to the following enquiry cases: * Lichtenburg: Five cattle were sold at an auction in Lichtenburg on 8 May 2026 and were subsequently seized for further investigation. * Lichtenburg: Four cattle were sold at the Lichtenburg Feedlot on 29 May 2026 and were subsequently seized. * Sannieshof: Four cattle were also sold at the Lichtenburg Feedlot on 29 May 2026 and were seized as part of the ongoing enquiry. It is reported that the owner of the tuckshop, who is a foreign national, had arranged with the landlord to store his stock in the main house. This was after he heard that there was looting of tuckshops belonging to foreign nationals in the area. The landlord allegedly consumed some of the biscuits and shared them with his nephew. Shortly afterwards, both of them started feeling dizzy and vomiting. They were taken to a local medical facility where they were certified dead on arrival. The source of the biscuits and the cause of death will be determined through post-mortem examinations. Upon arrival, a proper search was conducted resulting in the recovery of a firearm and five rounds of ammo. A 34yr-old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammo. In a separate incident during the same op, a suspect was arrested. The suspect was wanted for two separate murder cases perpetrated in June and July 2026 in Belhar. Both suspects are set to appear before the Bellville Magistrate's Court soon. On Wednesday, 08/07 members of the NIU operationalised intell and proceeded to Pelican Heights, Muizenberg. An operation was put into place and the two vehicles were pulled over at Seagull Street, Pelican Heights, and searched. In a Hyundai vehicle, members found an AK 47 without a serial number and a camouflage box with a large amount of ammo. Three suspects including a 27yr-old female and two males, aged 38 and 42, were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The exhibits were handed in for further processing. This case will be investigated by the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime. The suspects are due to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate's Court soon. Early this morning, Thursday, 09/07, members attached to #OperationLockdown III, were performing vehicle patrols in Leonsdale area, when they saw a suspicious looking male at a premises in 12th Ave, Leonsdale. Upon approaching the suspect, he dropped an unknown object while running. The members found an imitation firearm with seven green tip blank rounds.
