In Georgia, Black mothers are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts—and more than 80% of those deaths are preventable. We cannot accept that.
I welcomed fellow Georgian Shanette Williams, whose daughter, Amber Thurman, died because of Georgia's abortion ban and delayed care. Shanette has turned unimaginable grief into advocacy through the Amber Thurman Foundation, reminding us that behind every statistic is a family forever changed.
