Last week, the Supreme Court correctly ruled that temporary means temporary. Today, they ruled that Election Day does not mean Election Day. This inconsistency only heightens the urgency of passing the SAVE America Act.
“Postmarked by Election Day” offers no real guarantee of legitimacy. In California, voters can simply self-attest that they completed their ballot before Election Day—even without a postmark—and it can still be counted.
