Two hundred and fifty years ago, our Founding Fathers declared independence and founded a nation where every person is endowed with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have worked, sacrificed, and persevered to leave our country stronger than they found it. Together, we have continued the work of building a nation defined by freedom and opportunity. As we celebrate 250 years of our nation's founding, I am proud to be an American.

In two-and-a-half centuries, American pioneers conquered the frontier, fought for freedom across oceans and continents, split the atom, and put a man on the moon. Nearly one year ago, I helped pass the Working Families Tax Cuts. As a result, 7.5 million taxpayers claimed No Tax on Tips this past tax season. I am working every day to deliver tax relief and to make sure Hoosiers keep their hard-earned wages.

I gave a speech on the House Floor today honoring Deb Liggett. She received the Extra Mile Award from the @TSCSuper and has driven over 170 miles everyday for 40 years to bring students to school. Congratulations and thank you for being a good role model to our students!

I spoke on the House Floor to honor Ivy Tech Community College for winning third place in the Battery Workforce Challenge. This challenge is a three-year engineering competition to build advanced battery technology organized by the Department of @ENERGY. Our country needs innovative minds like theirs to solve the challenges of the future. I am so proud of these Ivy Tech students. Congratulations!

Today, I gave a floor speech in honor of Carroll Junior-Senior High School teacher and FFA advisor, Steve Keown, who is retiring from education after 42 years and numerous FFA accolades. I thank him for his public service and dedication to teaching our Hoosier students.
