The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has expertise in agriculture economics. Our farmers and ranchers need experts advocating for them in order for them to continue to put food on Americans’ tables.

It was fitting for us to discuss the impact of the Federal Reserve System in the heartland of the country. Reserve Banks play a critical role in supervising member banks, ensuring the safety of our payments system, and inform monetary policy.

Building on previous actions to taken by the Trump Administration to strengthen fertilizer affordability and domestic production, @POTUS signed a proclamation temporarily suspending countervailing duties on certain phosphate fertilizer imports. Passing The Working Families Tax Cut Act was a critical first step to updating the farm safety net to reflect the needs of farmers today. I know Oklahoma farmers are looking forward to seeing updated reference prices and a strengthened farm safety actualized in farm country this fall.

The INVEST Act is vital legislation that the Senate should take up and pass. It would increase investment access for Americans, increase the ability for private companies to go and stay public, and strengthen our capital markets. Watch my full exchange below:

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of John Groendyke. As the Chairman and CEO of Groendyke Transport, the longest-serving commissioner on Oklahoma’s Department of Wildlife Conservation in history, and a trustee of Oklahoma State University, he will be remembered as a successful businessman, stedfast advocate of conservation, and pillar of the Enid community. My prayers are with his wife, Virginia, and the rest of his family.

.@SecRollins on combatting the New World screwworm with the construction of a state-of-the-art sterile fly production facility, FDA treatments: We got immediate approval to begin permitting and construction on what will be the largest facility in the world on this, and that is being built right now in Texas. Instead of a couple years of permitting, our Army Corps of Engineers, our @SecWar put it at the top of the list, got it fast tracked, and we we broke ground about 3 or 4 months ago. That facility will come online next year. When it does, it’ll produce about 300 million flies per week, in addition to the 100 million from Panama, and then we outfitted an additional Mexican facility. We will get back to the point where we're able to push it back and eradicate it. But until that point, which is likely some time next year, we had FDA fast track a lot of treatment. We’ve got a national veterinary supply stockpile that was loaded onto a plane this morning, is headed to South Texas right now.
