WELCOME TO QUEER BRITAIN
3…2…1 🥳
The countdown is over! The doors are open!
We are the UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum. We are a dedicated space that preserves, explores and celebrates LGBTQ+ lives and stories 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
This is your LGBTQ+ museum.
This is YOUR Queer Britain!
#Heartstopper star @tobiedonovan_ shares: “If young Tobie could’ve come to Queer Britain, it would’ve been really affirming to see the people that had come before me, so that I didn’t feel like I was the only queer person in the world”. This is the place to be seen. Visit us now!
Happy #NonBinaryPeoplesDay! 💛🤍💜🖤
Non-binary people have always been an invaluable part of the LGBTQ+ community.
To be an ally, use gender-neutral language, correct pronouns, create inclusive spaces, and support the fight for legal recognition.

#OnThisDay in 1988, the night before it became law, four lesbians frustrated by lack of publicity, invaded the BBC Six O’Clock news studio shouting, “Stop Section 28”. Booan Temple said: ‘We could not get the news to report on it, so we thought, “Well, we’ll just be the news.’’

Happy Valentines Day! 💌
LGBT+ history is full of stories of love worth celebrating. In 1778 Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby fled their native Ireland to escape social pressures of conventional marriage and live together in rural Wales with a series of pet dogs called Sappho.
Anne Lister was a Yorkshire industrialist and landowner. Her diaries recorded her daily life and, in code, her lesbian identity. Referred to as Gentleman Jack on account of her masculine dress, Lister’s diaries are a rare first person account of a pre-20th century lesbian.

On 28 December 1725, twenty five men were arrested for 'misbehaving' at a molly house (a tavern or rooms where gay men met) in Covent Garden. They had been dancing, some wearing drag, and despite resisting arrest, none were prosecuted. #QueerBritain#OnThisDay
QB confirms that we will not be participating in the Safe To Be Me conference because of the Government’s failure to keep longstanding promises on safeguarding our communities and, in fact, making it Safe To Be Us.

On Transgender Day of Visibility we celebrate trans people, their stories, and contributions to society. We champion the trans community and ensure they are seen and heard. It is a day for trans people to be lifted and for allies to learn how to better support them.
Happy #LGBTHM22!🌈
Queer people have impacted every part of culture, yet all too often their lives have been written in the margins of history books.
Join us in remembering LGBTQ+ history this month, and later this Spring when we open our new home in Granary Square.
I'm honoured to announce that I'm @QueerBritain's new ambassador! Queer Britain is the UK's first LGBTQ+ museum, solidifying our place in history. As part of the asexual and aromantic community, it's lovely to have our place recognised too. 💜
