Lady stopped me asking, was I from the telly? Yes! She then went into raptures about how I had been instrumental in getting people making things again and creativity is important, I was thrilled she understood what we try to do, then she said Sewing Bee is her favourite prog 1/2

I’m not an educationalist but if kids don’t want to learn as their GCSEs won’t be happening does it not show a flaw in our education system? Is the way we teach at the moment crushing their curiosity and ambition rather than encouraging and feeding it?

Q. “How can I get my socially awkward child to be more confident and outgoing?” A. Accept them as they are and where they are. We only make someone feel more socially inadequate if we don’t think they are good enough exactly where they are right now. Acceptance breeds confidence.

In our culture I think too much emphasis is put on romantic relationships and not enough on friendship. I found this article celebrating friendship refreshing bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-no… “Put yourself out and go and see your friend. Don't always wait for them to come and see you.”

Somebody clever, not me, decided there were 2 sorts of leaders. Baboons, who grab power for its own sake and for what they can personally get out of it and elephants, who lead for the benefit of the whole group.

I've been sitting on this bit of news for a while and I'm pleased and thrilled and everything in between about my new job. I hope you'll get The Observer Magazine and make use of me.
We are thrilled to introduce the Observer Magazine's brilliant new agony aunt @Philippa_Perry: psychotherapist, TV presenter and bestselling author. Philippa will answer your questions every week. Look out for her first column this Sunday. Out with the Observer newspaper

I'm confused because when I ask anyone what their hobby or main non-work past time is, they never say playing with my phone and watching telly (my favourite things) but reading, or sport, or art, or baking, or walking. Surely I'm not the only one on screens for hours every day?

Oh dear. I’ve upset a lot of people. I didn’t mean to. I’m not saying ADHD doesn’t exist, I’m saying it shouldn’t be an identity and it shouldn’t be self-diagnosed. We are more than our diagnoses - that’s what I’m trying to say.
i am honestly all out of words for the pain, anger and disappointment i feel at the media’s need to constantly invalidate and shit all over ADHDers. @thetimes @Philippa_Perry we are a group of disabled people that have been repeatedly let down and we deserve better!!!!!!

What have you learnt about yourself in lockdown? I've realised that 1) I was just buying clothes because I was addicted to buying them 2) I used to take Pret a Manger completely for granted and 3) I like being with other people even if I don't know them all that well.

Making mistakes even gross errors of judgement is something we’ve probably all done. It is important on these occasions to say, “My bad”. If we cannot be that flexible, we can never learn, develop or grow and we set a terrible example.

I think if and when society is allowed to associate again we’ll find it over-stimulating, be out of practice and scurry back to hide behind our screens again after half an hour. I think we’d better meet up for no longer than 5 minutes at a time to start with and build up slowly.

Video calling is tiring coz of the delay of the spoken word and the gestures and expressions. They’re not simultaneous. So you have to listen to words and notice body language in two separate streams in your poor head. You also get distracted by your own face. Takes concentration
