This is an unbelievably high-IQ play by Peyton Holt in CF to preserve Arkansas' lead. Fakes a catch which causes Donay to break for home then back to the bag. Has to re-tag up and then gets thrown out at the plate. Unreal.

The Atlanta Braves have selected RHP Hurston Waldrep. As high a ceiling of any arm in the Draft. Pitches in the 95-99 mph range with his heater that has serious carry, high-80s SL is a ++ pitch with serious teeth (3,000+ RPM). SPL/CH is also a 70-pitch.

LHP Ryan Prager (@AggieBaseball) will again be one of the premier college southpaws in this year's Draft. Following a solid Freshman season and missing all of the '23 season, Prager last year was outstanding and pitched his way to a 2.95 ERA with 124 Ks (4th in SEC) to just 20 BB across 97.2 innings. Was a Third Team All-American and 3rd round pick, but opted to return to Texas A&M. Prager has an average build at 6'3" and 200-lbs with some strength in his lower-half. Pretty much a finished product from a projection and physicality standpoint. Prager has a relatively quiet delivery in which he starts with his shoulders turned slightly towards the 1B side. Small side step with his front foot leads into a high leg lift. Prager has a short, almost stabby arm action and attacks from an over-the-top slot. Controls his body well, does a nice job of repeating of his delivery. Prager's FB sits in the 89-91 range, but it has been up to 93. Not overwhelming velo-wise, but Prager's release characteristics and the pitch's traits help it play up. For starters, he attacks from a ~6'9" release height and it averaged over 22" of ride as well as some glove-side cut. It was an effective bat-misser, especially in the top 2/3 of the zone, and generated a 30% miss rate. Solid 50 for me. Supplements his heater with a low-to-mid-80s SL that he's comfortable throwing in any count and to both left and righthanded hitters. The pitch lacks teeth right now, but Prager has an advanced feel for it and has flashed the ability to manipulate its shape. He's able to back-foot it to RHH with a longer two-plane look, but it also will have a harder, more gyro look. Can also lengthen it out to the point where it has more sweep than depth against LHH. Plus feel for the pitch, Prager's ability to locate it helps it play up. Garnered a 32% miss and 40% chase rate in '24. 55 right now. Prager rounds out his arsenal with an upper-70s-to-low-80s CH that he throws almost exclusively to RHH. From this chair, it's without a doubt the best pitch in his arsenal. Gets great separation off his heater (~11 mph off), and Prager does a good job of maintaining his arm speed when delivering it. Consistently flashes big-time late tumbling life (that falling off the table action). Held opposing hitters to a measly .160 average and generated a 42% miss rate. Just like it does with his SL—and the entirety of his arsenal—Prager's high-level command helps maximize the pitch's effectiveness. 60 for me. Prager is one of the more advanced strike-throwers in college baseball and is armed with plus command and control of his entire arsenal. It's going to be hard to top what he did last season from both a statistical and "showing your stuff" standpoint, but he still profiles as a 3rd-4th round pick this July. (📽️: @AggieBaseball)

Hagen Smith (@RazorbackBSB) has a chance to be the first LHP off the board this July. After being named a Freshman All-American in 2022, Smith in 2023 pitched his way to an 8-2 record with a 3.64 ERA and 109 K across 71.2 IP. Two-time Team USA CNT member. The 6'3" Smith has some natural funk and deception in his delivery that helps his already-impressive arsenal play up. FB sits in the 93-96 MPH range, but this fall has been up to 100. Has life through the zone with cutting action at times. Impressive 29% miss rate in '23. Smith's calling card is his hellacious mid/high-80s slider, which last season had a 48% miss rate. Plenty of sweeping action, incredibly tough on LHH. Released almost behind them and end up in RHH batter's box. Has enough feel for the pitch to manipulate its shape and make it more vertical against RHH. Comfortably a 60-grade offering. Limited usage, but also flashed a high-80s CH with tumbling action. Could be a plus pitch down the road. Top-25 overall upside in 2024.

OF Nolan Schubart (@OSUBaseball) has some of the most impressive raw power of any college hitter in this year's Draft class. Burst onto the scene as a true Freshman and hit .338/.451/.667 with 20 2B, 17 HRs and 74 RBIs. Schubart followed with an excellent Sophomore campaign to the tune of a .370/.513/.838 slash line with 10 2B, 23 HRs and 68 RBIs. Both his 23 HRs and 68 RBIs led the Big 12. Schubart was a Second Team All-American and earned an invitation to Team USA. Prior to departing for Cary, Schubart had a productive 9-game stint on the Cape in which he hit .300/.476/.667 with 2 2B and 3 HRs. Also showed well for Team USA. Schubart has a pro body at 6'5" and 223-lbs with strength throughout. Particular length in his lower-half. Stands tall in the box with a medium-high handset and his hands in line with his back shoulder. Small stride, drops his hands and wraps his bat a bit in his load. Swing is tailored towards getting the ball up in the air and doing damage. No shortage of bat speed. Hips really fire. Key is keeping the operation direct and connected. Not to get too hyperbolic, but the biggest key to Schubart reaching his ceiling is how much he'll hit. More specifically, how much he'll make contact. Had an overall contact rate of just 63% and an overall IZ contact rate of 71%. Between the Cape and USA it was 68% and 78%, respectively. Particularly susceptible to spin in the bottom and outer-halves of the zone, and heaters in the top-1/2 of the zone. While there are swing-and-miss concerns, Schubart's swing decisions are pretty sound and he chased at an overall clip of 21% last spring. If he can do a better job of picking up spin out of the hand—which in turn would up his contact rate—that will help him maximize his hit tool. Schubart's calling card is his thunderous raw power. His ability to cover the plate with authority is impressive, and he can hammer the baseball to all fields. It's legit HR power to all parts of the yard, the key is just making enough contact to tap into his immense power on a consistent basis in pro ball. Schubart's impact is real (to say the least) and last spring he posted a 90th-percentile EV of 111.6 and a Max EV of 115. Even in his brief stint on the Cape his Max EV was 105.6. It's 70 raw power. Defensively, Schubart has held down LF to this point but he seems destined for 1B/DH professionally. You're buying his power and hoping you can add a couple coats of polish to his hit tool. 2nd Round type for me this July. (📽️: @OSUBaseball)

OF Cam Cannarella (@ClemsonBaseball) is one of the premier college players in this year's Draft. Took home ACC Freshman of the Year honors in '23 and earned a Team USA invite. Upped his production in 2024 and hit .337/.417/.561 with 16 2B, 3 3B, 11 HR and 60 RBIs in 58 games. Wiry, athletic frame at 6' and 180-pounds. Slightly open stance with a medium-high handset. There are some moving parts in his operation—pre-swing bat waggle that leads into a pretty pronounced barrel tip and drifting of his hands—but Cannarella is consistently on time and in a good position to hit. Plenty of bat and hand speed. Twitchiness and general athleticism are routinely on display in the box. Cannarella has an advanced feel for the barrel and comfortably plus contact skills. Ran an impressive 91% IZ contact rate last year, including 92% against FB (IZ) and a ridiculous 98% (IZ) against SL. Clear adjustability in his swing. Sound approach; some miss against FB top and outer-1/3, and secondaries bottom 1/3. Impressive track record already with the bat, I'd give the hit tool a 60. Got the ball up in the air more in 2024 compared to 2023 (17% fly ball rate —> 25% fly ball rate) which led to an uptick in power. Showed the ability to back spin the baseball to all fields, max EV of 108.3. Curious how it will translate professionally. He'll still put a handful of balls over the wall, but I think it's more XBH power at the next level than HR power. Standout defender in CF where his instincts, plus speed and high-level athleticism all shine. Quick first step, gets great reads off the bat. Covers plenty of ground in every direction and plays fearless. Arm is average, but the mix of baseball sense/speed/athleticism will allow him to stick at the position professionally. The "you either have it or you don't" quality with Cannarella is his ability to step up and rise to the occasion when the lights are at their brightest. It was on full display in game 2 of last year's Super Regional (game-tying 3-run HR in the 9th followed by Willie Mayes-esque catch in the bottom of the 10th), but he's come up time and time again—on both sides of the baseball—in big moments. He's the type of guy I'd want in the box or have the ball hit to him when a play needed to be made. Compete levels are off the charts! Don't be fooled by his lack of stolen bases last year, either. Cannarella is a plus runner who can be a chaos-causer on the base paths. Will make an impact with his legs. Toolsy player who is on his way to a potential top-10 overall selection this July. RHP Striker Pence (2028) this afternoon turned in what will almost certainly be the loudest outing of the tournament. Fired 2 shutout innings against the Brewers Scout Team in which he collected 3 strikeouts, allowed 1 hit and walked 1. Extra-long 6’6”, 200-pound frame with budding strength throughout. Particular physicality in Pence’s lower-half. Works exclusively out of the stretch and attacks out of a 3/4 slot with a whippy arm stroke and tremendous arm speed. FB today sat 96-99 and topped out at 100/101. Pence touched 101—a new in-game PR—4 times. Explodes out of his hand and flashes thunderous life through the zone. No shortage of carry. I would stick a 70 on it right now. Pairs his heater with a hellacious mid-to-upper-80s power SL. Tons of sharp, lateral life with some depth. Really tough look for righties, but back-doored it for a called 3rd strike against a LHH. 60 right now, but not all that difficult to envision a future double-plus offering. Pence rounds out his arsenal with a high-80s SPL/CH. Does a nice job of killing spin on the offering, and he turned over one really good one today that flashed late tumble. Down the road it could end up being a mighty effective 3rd pitch that grades out as at least a 55. There’s some low hanging fruit to clean up in his delivery and he’s a bit of a spray gun command-wise (still raw in that regard), but it’s premium stuff across the board. The biggest key going forward will be competing in and around the strike zone on a consistent basis. It’s also important to remember he’s just 16-years-old and a Sophomore in HS. Ridiculous to think about what he might look like in a couple of years.

OF Devin Taylor (@IndianaBase) is one of the premier college bats in this year's Draft. Made an immediate impact as a Freshman in '23 and hit .315/.430/.650 with 13 2B, 16 HRs and 59 RBIs. Upped his production last year and posted a .357/.449/.660 slash line with 11 2B, 20 HRs and 54 RBIs. Taylor was a Team USA selection, but started and finished his summer on the Cape where he hit .296/.397/.510 with 10 XBH (5 HRs) and 16 RBIs. Taylor has a physical build at 6'1" and 215-lbs. Simple setup in the box in which he has a crouched stance and high handset. Bat is flat above his back shoulder. Drops his hands in his load that includes a barrel tip, though they don't drift all that much. Leg lift leads into a small stride, above-average bat speed. Head stays still and doesn't drift. Overall, it's a really simple and repeatable operation without a lot of moving parts. Rhythmic. Taylor has an all-fields approach with average bat-to-ball skills. Worked an overall IZ contact rate of 86%. He can get a little trigger happy against elevated FBs, and there's some heater miss in the top and outer-thirds. Some sw/miss against spin down. Swing decisions and approach are both sound. Handles velocity well, hit .370/.414/1.148 against FB 93+ and .410/.465/1/205 against FB 92+. Comfortably a 50 hit for me, though probably closer to a 55 than a 50. Generates quality contact on a regular basis and doesn't sell out to get to his power in-game. Also is not a metal bat merchant. He can drive the baseball with authority to all fields - it's both XBH and HR power to all parts of the yard. Posted a Max EV of 110.4 during the spring and 102.4 on the Cape. Would give Taylor's power a 60. He's a LF defensively, but his offensive profile is going to be what carries him. Has established a lengthy and impressive track record with the bat. SS Wehiwa Aloy (@RazorbackBSB) is one of the premier college infielders in this year's Draft. Burst onto the scene as a Freshman and hit .376/.427/.662 with 15 2B, 14 HRs, and 46 RBIs en route to winning the WAC's Freshman of the Year award. After a low start last spring, Aloy managed to hit .270/.355/.485 with 14 HRs and 56 RBIs. Enjoyed a fantastic summer on the Cape in which he hit .309/.352/.642 with 3 2B, 8 HRs, and 24 RBIs across 21 games. Aloy has a lean and athletic build at 6'2" and 200-lbs. Made a really positive adjustment in his stance between the spring and summer that paid dividends. Ditched the somewhat crouched look with a low handset, and now stands taller in the box with a raised handset. Over the summer had a little bit of a Drew Burress-ish look with the head of his bat pointed down across his back shoulder, but has seemed to have found a happy medium this fall. Minimal load, small toe tap leads into a normal stride. Present bat speed. Biggest question mark in Aloy's offensive profile right now is his hit tool. Made contact at just a 70% overall clip both during the spring and summer, including overall IZ contact rates of 80% and 82%, respectively. Pitch recognition skills and swing decisions are going to need to improve in order for him to achieve his offensive upside. Secondaries are a particular bugaboo, but he has the tendency to get trigger happy up in the zone against FB. Had a very productive fall, though, and his somewhat new look in the box could garner positive results. Aloy has above-average power to all fields (both with metal and wood) and has shown he can drive the baseball with authority to all parts of the field. Has a knack for getting the ball up in the air and the impact he's able to generate is encouraging. Posted a Max EV of 114 in the spring, and his Max EV this summer of 106.9 was the 10th-highest mark in the Cape League. Key is just making contact on a frequent enough basis for him to tap into that power in-game. Aloy is a solid athlete up the middle and makes the plays he should. Arm strength is a tick above average and plays at the position, though his overall defensive skillset could translate better elsewhere professionally. That's not suggesting a move to the OF as I am confident in his ability to stick on the dirt, it's just a matter of where. Potential top-60 overall pick this July. (📽️: @RazorbackBSB)

RHP Christian Foutch (@RazorbackBSB) will have a chance this season to establish himself as one of the premier relievers in all of college baseball. Found success in an increased role last spring and pitched his way to a 0.81 ERA with 20 Ks to 7 BB across 22.1 IP. Made two appearances on the Cape and threw 1.1 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Foutch has a strong, physical build and stands at 6'3", 230-lbs. Pitches exclusively out of the stretch and has an incredibly easy, low-effort delivery. Slightly abbreviated arm stroke and attacks from a low (ish)-three quarter slot. More low-3/4 than mid-3/4. Plenty of present hand speed. Foutch's heater sits in the upper-90s but has been up to 101. Explodes out of the hand and flashes run and ride through the zone. Foutch's command of the pitch is scattered right now, but it's most effective when located on the arm-side half of the plate. High spin, averaged North of 2,400 RPMs last spring. Fourth relies heavily on the pitch and he threw it 75% of the time in '24. Mentioned the low effort motion earlier, but it legitimately looks like he's playing catch. Heater is a 60 for me. Foutch pairs his heater with an upper-80s-to-low-90s cutter. He's still honing in on his feel for it, but it's got a chance to be a slam dunk plus offering in the not-so-distant future if he can up the competitive pitch percentage with it. Flashed late glove-side life/depth last spring. Gets in and under the hands of LHH, darts away/down against RHH. Closer to a 60 than it is a 55. Rounds out his arsenal with a mid-to-upper-80s SPL/CH. Will throw it against both LHH and RHH, though it's better against the former. Foutch does a nice job of throwing it with conviction, and it consistently gets 10+ MPH of separation off his fastball. Routinely flashes hard, late tumbling life. Threw it just 11% of the time last season, but it generated a 47% miss rate. Would also give it a 60. While Foutch is destined to pitch in relief professionally, he has a chance to be a fast mover and a mighty effective late-relief/closer option. If his command and control can improve, that will only enhance his already-impressive stuff. Fits in the 4th-6th round range for me right now. (📽️: @RazorbackBSB, @FalCommodores)

OF RJ Austin (@VandyBoys) is an intriguing college hitter in this year's Draft. Carved out an every day role as a Freshman and collected 18 XBH with 43 RBIs, but had a breakout summer on the Cape to the tune of a .327/.426/.376 slash line with 13 RBIs in 29 games. Carried that momentum over into last season where he hit .335/.402/.471 with 14 2B, 5 HRs, 54 RBIs and 28 SB. Earned an invitation to Team USA, but had a strong 15-game stint on the Cape and hit .321/.361/.536 with 6 2B, 2 HRs and 9 RBIs. Strong, athletic build at 5'11" and 193-lbs with plenty of natural strength. Stands fairly tall in the box with his knees slightly bent and a tight base with a slightly open front side. Austin has lowered his handset a bit since last spring, and he now has more of a medium-high handset. Barrel tip in his load is accompanied by his hands drifting. High leg kick leads into a rather lengthy stride. Quick hands and easy plus bat speed. Athletic look, rotates well. Austin's hit tool has taken positive strides since the start of his college career, and last year he posted an overall contact rate of 82% and an IZ contact rate of 91% (including 94% against FB). Present feel for the barrel. Approach and swing decisions still need some fine-tuning, and Austin is susceptible to FBs in the top and outer-1/3 as well as secondaries down-and-away. Very pull-oriented approach. Would give it a 50, probably closer to a 55 than a 50. Austin's also a strong kid with more impact in the tank than his 12 career HRs might suggest. All of his HR power has come to the pull side, but he needs to get the ball up in the air more. Posted a Max EV of 110 last spring. There are some ingredients to work with here, but has to lift the baseball on a more regular basis. Power plays as a 45 in-game. Has had limited experience in the OF to this point, but will roam CF this spring for Vanderbilt. Got a fair amount of run out there this summer on the Cape. Austin's speed and athleticism both translate to the position—he can go and get it—but the reads and route running will need refinement. Fringe-average arm. I'm curious to see the progress over the course of the season. I alluded to it, but Austin is a plus runner and an effective base-stealer. Twitchy. 2nd-3rd round type for me this July. RHP Sam Horn (@MizzouBaseball) has a chance to really pop this spring. Threw just 4.1 innings last spring before going down for the season, but didn't allow a run and notched 6 strikeouts. Also a QB on the Missouri football team. Incredibly physical, athletic build at 6'4" and 217-pounds. Explosive delivery with loose, whippy arm action and big time arm speed. Attacks from a mid-three quarter slot with a low release height. Excellent athlete who moves well on the mound. Thunderous FB sits in the 95-98 MPH range. Jumps out of the hand and flashes plenty of run and ride through the zone. Plays even harder when elevated. No-doubt 60 offering right now. Continuing to develop feel for a low/mid-80s SL. Will sometimes flash tight sweeping life with a bit of depth. Certainly has the potential to be a plus pitch down the road. Horn is still on the football roster and while he's not Draft eligible until 2025, his sheer upside is immense. He figures to log meaningful innings this spring for the Tigers and will be one of the more fun arms to follow both this season and beyond. (📽️: @MizzouBaseball, @FloBaseball)

Caught 1B/OF Ethan Petry’s (@GamecockBasebll) Cape League debut tonight. The rising Junior announced his presence with authority, going 3-4 with a HR and 4 barrels. Physical monster. Every bit of his 6-foot-4, 230-pound listing. Some moving parts in his swing - toe tap and hands drop/drift a bit. Will sometimes get beat with a FB. Key is just not being late with his hands. Pure hit tool and pitch recognition skills will need to continue to gain polish, especially when it comes to picking up spin, but the impact is real. Comfortably plus power, ball jumps when he catches it on the sweet spot. I’m thinking 1B defensively long term, could play OF when needed. Excited to follow how he does for the rest of the summer, could make himself a lot of money. Certainly has the potential to be selected in the first round next July. #BACape25

One of the most electric rotations in all of college baseball this season belongs to @UIBaseball. Will feature perhaps the best arm in America in RHP Brody Brecht (two 70-grade offerings with a 98-102 mph FB and hellacious SL), RHP Marcus Morgan (lively FB up to 96 w/plus SL), and low-slot LHP Cade Obermueller (explosive mid-90s FB and AA SL). Also watch out for RHP Anthony Watts who has been outstanding this fall with a riding FB up to 94 and a power SL. As high an octane quartet as you'll find. (📽️: @UIBASEManagers)

My personal 1:1 for the 2024 Draft is 2B Travis Bazzana (@BeaverBaseball). Hit .374 last spring with 20 2B, 11 HR, 55 RBI, 36 SB, and 59 BB to 47 K (.500 OBP). Proceeded to dominate the Cape League and took home MVP honors after hitting .375 with 14 XBH, 14 SB, and 31 RBI. Unbelievably explosive operation in the box with double-plus bat speed and optimal swing path. Somewhat unique setup, but he makes it work and is consistently on time. Feel for the barrel is off the charts and his pitch recognition skills are as advanced as any hitter in the country. Plus bat-to-ball skills with a 92% IZ contact rate (94% against FB). Hit tool is a 70. Drives the baseball with authority to all fields, flashes the most power to the pull side. Super athletic, sound defender at 2B with above average arm strength. Not only is he a plus runner, but he knows *how* to run. Does a fantastic job utilizing a walking lead, jump lead, etc. Exceptional baseball sense. Makeup (both on field and off) is an 80. Can recall one example from this summer that has stuck with me: game was out of reach late, but he was by far the most vocal player both in the field and in the dugout. Plays at one speed and is engaged from the first pitch to the last.

OF Trevor Condon (@Vol_Baseball) was one of my favorite position players I saw in Jupiter. Collected 7 hits (1 XBH) and 4 RBIs across 5 games. Slightly undersized, but there's some impact (mainly to the pull side) packed into his frame. Wiry, athletic build at 5'11" and 175-lbs. Prototypical top-of-the-order table setter. Explosive and twitchy operation in the box with no-doubt plus bat speed. Feel for the barrel is there, high-level bat-to-ball skills. Controlled the zone well with polished swing decisions in my looks last week. Does tend to hit the ball on the ground, would like to see more line drives. Hit-over-power profile with some PS thump. Gets out of the box unbelievably quick, turned in 70-grade run times. Condon's tantalizing combination of speed and athleticism translates well to centerfield. He can really go and get it and has plenty of range, but if he can shore up his routes (take a more efficient, crisp path to the baseball) he has a chance to become an impact defender. The intangibles with Condon are a nice cherry on top. Advanced baseball sense; stole 2nd on a great dirt ball read, swiped 3rd on a well-executed shuffle lead. Incredibly high motor, plays with his hair on fire. Does not take a pitch off! Always involved, brings the juice! Like the Energizer bunny. Kind of a throwback player in that sense - it's clear he LOVES to play! Think along the lines of Sal Frelick/Slater de Brun (SDB better defender at this point with more of a physical, barrel-chested look). Top 2-3 round type for me this July.

LHP Josh Hartle (@WakeBaseball) is perhaps the most advanced arm in the country. After a strong showing in 2022 on the Cape (2.65 ERA, 13 K to 0 BB in 17 IP), Hartle in 2023 enjoyed a spectacular Sophomore season in which he had an 11-2 record, 2.81 ERA, and 140 K to just 24 BB in 102.1 IP. Hartle was a First Team All-American and had a summer stint with Team USA. Long, lanky build at 6-foot-5 and 200-lbs. Attacks from a three-quarters slot and has an easy, aesthetically pleasing operation. Very advanced mechanically, controls his body really well. Hartle's fastball last year sat in the 89-92 range, but this fall he has taken a step forward in the velocity department and has added a couple of ticks to his heater. 28% miss rate in '23, routinely flashes heavy sinking life. Features two breaking balls. Low-80s curveball will take on an 11-5 shape with sharp break and big depth at times. 48% miss rate and .127 OBA in '23. Average spin rate was north of 2,700 rpm. Low-80s SL is also plenty effective. A bit shorter in shape, can back foot it to RHH and land for strikes. Hartle's high-80s cutter is also a plus pitch. Really gets in on the hands of RHH. Plenty of horizontal movement. Hartle has the best control and command of any arm in this year's Draft class. Could absolutely pitch his way into the first ~25 overall picks.

Don't sleep on @WVUBaseball's JJ Wetherholt as the potential #1 pick this July. Had a monster 2023 season, hitting .449 with 24 2B, 16 HR, 36 SBs, and more BB than K. Hit tool is comfortably a 70 right now and he is perhaps the best pure hitter in all of college baseball. Feel for the barrel is off the charts and hammers the baseball to all fields. Consistently gets it up in the air. Advanced approach, but the bat-to-skills are an 80; 90% overall contact rate, 94% IZ contact rate. Serious bat speed, barrel really accelerates through the hitting zone. Legit plus runner, has the defensive chops to stick at 2B long term. Outstanding makeup: started summer on the Cape, went to Team USA, and then came *back* to the Cape - extremely rare! Baseball rat through and through.

SS Dean Curley (@Vol_Baseball) is one of the top Sophomore-eligible prospects in this year's Draft. Earned the starting shortstop job as a Freshman and hit .285/.386/.502 with 10 2B, 12 HR, and 50 RBIs. After winning the National Title, Curley also enjoyed a productive stint with Team USA. Curley has a big league body at 6'3" and 212-lbs with length in his lower-half and strength and physicality throughout. Slightly crouched setup in the box with a medium-high handset. Small stride with a minimal load in which he deploys a slight barrel tip. Curley has big time hand speed and an engaged lower-1/2 - fan of the scissor action with his back leg. It's an under control operation/easy operation with minimal moving parts, and one in which he takes a short and direct path to contact. Head stays level. There's a really appealing compact explosiveness to it. Curley has a knack for finding the barrel to go along with plus bat-to-ball skills. Sported an overall IZ contact rate of 90% last season, including 93% against FB. Difficult to beat with the heater and handles velocity well. Hit .304/.515/.348 against 94+, including .500/.611/.571 against 95+ (albeit a smaller sample size). While there's some swing and miss against spin, Curley has a sound approach and his swing decisions are polished. Pitch recognition skills took a step forward with Team USA, curious to see if that carries over into the spring. Comfortable giving the hit tool a 50 right now, though it's closer to a 55. On top of his hitability, Curley has above-average raw power (plus to the pull side). His highest quality of contact—and the vast majority of his HR power—is to the PS, but he has the strength to drive the baseball to all fields. Routinely impacts the baseball and is able to do so with relative ease. On top of his 90th-percentile EV of 107, Curley posted a Max EV of 110.8. Very enticing hit-power blend. Curley is a slam dunk to stick on the left side of the infield, it's just a matter of where. Started every day at SS last spring and is slated to do so again in 2025. He has an advanced baseball sense with a comfortably plus arm and some range to the arm side. There is a chance he eventually moves to 3B in pro ball where the arm and actions will both translate well. There's a lot to like with Curley from a tools standpoint on both sides of the baseball. He can impact the game in a myriad of ways and is on track to be a top-50 overall selection this July. (📽️: @Vol_Baseball)

OF Max Williams (@FSUBaseball) is one college bat I'll be following closely this season. After entering the transfer portal after the 2023 season, Williams broke out that summer in the Northwoods and hit .316/.414/.505 with 21 2B and 5 HRs. Rode that momentum into 2024 and was one of Florida State's key bats. Posted a .311/.384/.582 11 2B, 4 3B, and 14 HRs. Strong, physical build at 6'2" and 207-lbs. Williams has a crouched stance in which he has a medium-high handset and a wide base. Minimal load in which his hands drift slightly. Doesn't stride and transfers his weight well. Really drives his back side/back knee. Plenty of present bat speed. Williams' carrying tool is without a doubt his power. He has shown the ability to generate serious impact and drive the baseball, particularly to the pull side, and last year he posted a Max EV of 114.2 MPH and a 90th-percentile EV of 109 MPH. Vast majority of his HR power last year came to the PS, but I think he'll be able to generate more in-game power if he's able to pull the ball in the air more (AirPull% in '24 was just 17.2%). Raw power is a 55 for me. Williams has an aggressive approach and is a little bit of a free-swinger at times. Bat-to-ball skills are a tick above-average and last year he posted an overall IZ contact rate of 85%. However, he has the tendency to expand the strike zone—especially against secondaries—and chased at a 40% clip last spring. Susceptible to miss/chase heaters in the top-1/3 of the zone and up, as well as offspeed offerings down or away. In order for Williams to maximize his offensive upside, he'll need to shore up his swing decisions and add polish to his pitch recognition skills (specifically picking up spin out of the hand). 45 hit right now. Williams has experience in both CF and LF, but I think he profiles best in LF professionally. He's got solid range and is an average runner with an average arm. Fits in the 3rd-5th round bucket this July for me. (📽️: @FSUBaseball)

RHP Nate Snead (@Vol_Baseball) is a college arm to keep close tabs on this season. Started his career at Wichita State, where as a true Freshman he worked a 3.16 ERA with 53 Ks to 17 BB across 42.2 innings. Was one of the most sought after arms in the transfer portal and eventually committed to Tennessee. Enjoyed a strong 2024 season in which he pitched his way to a 3.11 ERA with 61 Ks to 26 BB in 75.1 innings. Earned a Team USA invite. Athletic build at 6'2" and 220-pounds with present physicality in his lower-half. Clean delivery with a loose, whippy arm action and no shortage of arm speed. Snead is an athletic mover who attacks from a low release height out of a low-¾ slot. Release height across the board is consistently sub-5'10". Snead’s sinker sits in the mid-to-upper-90s, but he routinely eclipses triple digits and has topped out at 101. On top of its heavy sinking life, it also flashes ample natural arm-side run. It bears in on the hands of right-handed hitters and oftentimes induces weak contact. Given its shape and movement profile, it’s most effective when located on the arm-side half of the plate. It is at its best when located on the inner-⅓ (arm side) and top or bottom-⅓ of the zone. Also features an upper-80s-to-low-90s power gyro SL. It's inconsistent in shape, but it will flash above-average. At times will take on a shorter look with tight sweep, and others will have more of that power gyro look with sharp two-plane tilt with more depth than sweep. Go-to swing and miss pitch, worked a 36% whiff rate last season. Will occasionally mix in a CB in the low-to-mid-80s that sometimes flashes some depth, but it's a work in progress right now. Snead’s cutter might be the most intriguing pitch in his arsenal. He consistently throws it for strikes, it generates its fair share of whiffs (37% miss rate across a limited sample in '24) and it's effective both when elevated and/or when located on his glove side. Shape is interesting, and last year it averaged 7.6" of IVB and -0.9" of horizontal. Would like to see him throw it more. Changeup is a work in progress, but at times it will flash late tumbling life. Snead will work from both sides of the rubber, but I believe he is most effective on the first base side. To round out his profile, Snead has above-average control. Very interested to see how he does this year as a starter, assuming that ends up being the case. Some reliever risk right now, and I currently have him in the 3rd-5th round bucket. If he shows he can start at a high level this spring, though, that will change. (🎥: @Vol_Baseball)

Looking *way* ahead to 2025, Ethan Petry is one of the top players in the class. As a true Freshman, Petry was the centerpiece of a talented South Carolina lineup and a big reason for its run to a Super Regional. He hit .376/.471/.733 with 10 2B, 23 HR, and 75 RBIs. On top of being named a second team All-American and first team Freshman All-American, Petry was invited to Team USA’s training camp. At 6'4" and 235-lbs, Petry is as physical as they come and possesses immense strength. He has a quiet setup in the box with a slightly open front side and high handset. Bat is almost completely horizontal above his back shoulder. Hands drop and drift slightly during the load. Petry uses a toe tap that leads into a normal stride. He has thunderous bat speed and does an excellent job of rotating, using his lower-half, and finishing his swing. He hammers the baseball to all fields. While he’s a finished product physically, Petry’s raw power grades out as a 70. He generates top-of-the-line impact, and his max EV last spring was 111 MPH. His hit tool is solid-average, and he has the tendency to expand the strike zone especially against spin. Petry has an above average arm in right field, but long term he might end up at first base. Even if he does, Petry’s bat makes him a potential top 10 overall pick in 2025. (📽️: @GamecockBasebll)

C Easton Carmichael (@OU_Baseball) is one of the top college catchers in this year's Draft. Started from the get-go as a Freshman and hit .306/.346/.482 with 18 XBH and 48 RBIs. Proceeded to enjoy an outstanding Sophomore campaign to the tune of a .366/.406/.563 slash line with 31 XBH, 64 RBIs and 12 SB. Carmichael was then an All-Star and All-League selection in the Cape League after hitting .299/.372/.496 with 10 2B, 5 HR and 23 RBIs across 36 games. Prototypical catcher's frame at 6'1" and 200-lbs with strength throughout. Slightly crouched stance in the box with a high handset and the bat held horizontally above his back shoulder. Hands drift a little bit in his load, leg lift leads into a normal stride. Does a nice job of getting into his back hip. Average bat speed. Carmichael has an aggressive approach and digs into the box ready to hit. He uses the entire field and has a tick above-average bat-to-ball skills. Has shown the ability to drive the baseball into either gap. Could stand to tighten up his swing decisions a bit; chased at a 35% clip and was particularly susceptible to secondaries down and away. Present barrel skills. Would say his hit tool is a 50 right now, though it's probably closer to a 55. It's more extra-base hit and gap-to-gap power than it is HR power for Carmichael right now, but he has shown he can generate quality contact. Posted a Max EV of 109.5 during the spring and 104.2 on the Cape. If he can pull the ball in the air more (had an Air Pull% of just 20.8 in '24), it could lead to an increase in power production. 50 raw, it plays more like 45 in-game. It's been encouraging to see the progress Carmichael has made defensively. Has gotten better at corralling balls in the dirt and his transfers have gotten quicker. Best part of Carmichael's defensive skillset is his receiving. Soft and quiet, consistently works down to up and has a knack for stealing strikes. Doesn't stab at the baseball. Average arm strength, continuing to shore up his footwork will only help as it pertains to controlling the running game and delivering accurate throws down to bases. A nice cherry on top to Carmichael's profile is that he's far from a clogger on the bases. By no means a burner, but he'll pick his spots to steal a bag. Carmichael has an intriguing toolset and profiles as a 2nd-4th round pick this July. (📽️: @OU_Baseball)

Anthony Silva (@TCU_Baseball) is perhaps the best true Shortstop in the entire 2024 Draft Class. Silva exploded onto the scene in 2023 as a Freshman, sporting an impressive .330/.416/.471 slash line with 11 2B, 7 HR, and 50 RBI. Was TCU's every day SS from the get-go. Named a First Team Freshman All-American and earned an invitation to Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Pro-like frame at 6'2", 200-pounds. Figures to add some impact as he continues to mature physically. Stands nearly upright in the box with a relaxed, medium-high handset. Normal load and stride, it's a smooth and rhythmic operation with a direct path to contact. Bat-to-ball skills are plus with an 88% IZ contact rate, including 89% against FB. Improving pitch recognition skills, mainly in terms of picking up spin, will be key! Feasts on heaters: in 2023 slashed .360/.418/.460 against FB 92+. Silva's calling card is his defense. Legitimate plus defender at SS with excellent actions and instincts. Athleticism really shines. Ample range both up the middle and to the backhand side. Comfortable throwing on the run and from multiple arm slots. Arm is above average. Slow heartbeat type player, knack for making the big play in a key moment. With a standout sophomore campaign, Silva has a chance to be a top-20 overall pick.

Was named the ACC Freshman of the Year and earned an invitation to Team USA. Super wiry and athletic frame at 6’, 175-pounds. Open stance in the box with a semi-high handset. Some moving parts in the swing, but it works for him. Consistently gets in a good hitter’s position and is on time. Present bat speed. Cannarella uses all fields, but his ability to generate quality contact to the opposite field is especially impressive. Excellent bat-to-ball skills. In 2023 he had a 93% IZ contact rate including a video game-like 97% IZ contact rate against FB. Simply put, you’re not going to beat him with the heater. Outstanding defender in CF. Quick first step with great instincts, raw athleticism really shines. Covers a *ton* of ground in all directions, makes impressive plays on a regular basis. 1B Blake Burke (@Vol_Baseball) has some of the most impressive raw power in the country. Made an immediate impact in his true Freshman season and hit .326/.467/.821 with 14 HR and 32 RBIs across 45 games. Burke struggled at times last year, but still wound up hitting .280/.369/.527 with 6 2B, 16 HR, and 43 RBIs. Burke stands at an impressive 6'3" and 240-lbs. Unbelievable strength throughout his frame. Burke stands tall in the box with a slightly open front side. High handset, Burke has some activity in his load with a noticeable barrel tip and a little bit of a bat wrap but he has thunderous bat speed with plenty of quickness in his hands. Very small stride, Burke has an explosive back hip and he rotates incredibly well. Burke's calling card is his easy 70-grade (borderline 80) power. He has no issue getting to it in-game and absolutely CRUSHES the baseball to all fields. Burke generates top-of-the-line impact and last year posted a max EV of 115.1 MPH. The key for Burke will be the continued refinement of his hit tool. He has above average bat-to-ball skills (89% IZ contact rate, 92% against FB), but he has the tendency to expand the strike zone at times - especially against spin. Almost impossible to beat with the heater. Should his approach continue to progress and take another step forward, Burke has Top-100 overall upside in this year's Draft. (📽️: @Vol_Baseball)

Another arm that I am excited to watch this spring is LHP Mason Molina (@RazorbackBSB). Had a strong a Freshman season in which he split time between the bullpen and rotation and worked a 3.90 ERA with 71 Ks in 59.2 IP. In 2023, Molina anchored the Texas Tech rotation and pitched his way to a 3.67 ERA and tallied 108 strikeouts across 83.1 innings. He was a Second Team All Big-12 selection and earned an invitation to pitch for Team USA’s Collegiate National Team. This season, Molina will pitch in Fayetteville alongside fellow southpaw Hagen Smith and Brady Tygart in what figures to be one of the best rotations in the SEC. Molina has a prototypical build at 6'2" and 215-lbs with thickness in the lower-half. He has a smooth, repeatable delivery on the mound with a long, clean arm stroke. Attacks from a high-three quarter slot with present arm speed. FB sits in the 89-92 (T93) range, but it plays up due to its big time riding life through the zone. He does a nice job of staying behind the baseball, and in 2023 it averaged over 19" of IVB. It generates the most swing-and-miss when located in the top-half of the zone and to the arm side, and consistently gets over the barrel of opposing hitters. He also features a high-70s gyro SL that he has advanced feel for, and he manipulates its shape well. Against RHH it flashes more depth and vertical break, but against LHH it takes on a longer look with more horizontal break. In 2023 it generated an impressive miss rate of 42% and held opposing hitters to a .105 average. He also features a mid-70s CB that he throws mostly to RHH. It flashes big depth and almost true 12-to-6 movement. Also has some sharpness to it. Lastly, Molina throws a low-80s CH. It is a fine fourth pitch and at times will show late tumbling life as well as slight fade to the arm side. Molina is an advanced strike-thrower with a great mound presence. He projects as a quality 4th/5th starter professionally and a 4th-6th round pick this July.

Transfer News: Strong chance he’s Drafted and signs, Tennessee lands a huge commitment from 6’6” RHP Matt Barr. 1.74 ERA this spring with 94 Ks across 57 IP. FB up to 98 w/life through zone, spins both his CB and SL in the 3,000 rpm range. Lots to dream on!

RHP Brady Tygart (@RazorbackBSB) is a key arm to follow this Draft cycle. Was a key contributor on Arkansas' 2022 College World Series team and pitched his way to a 3.82 ERA with 51 K across 37.2 IP. He was named a Freshman All-American and had a summer stint with Team USA. Tygart was sidelined for almost 2 months last spring with an injury, but he still put together a solid, albeit abbreviated, season and worked a 3.20 ERA with 31 K to 8 BB in 25.1 IP. Average build at 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds with some strength and thickness in the lower-half. Tygart has a loose, whippy arm action and attacks from a three-quarter slot with plus arm speed. Some effort in the delivery, but not a ton. FB will sit in the 92-94 (T96/97) range with some ride. Plays well in the top-half of the zone where it generated the vast majority of its swing and miss. Tygart's command and control of the pitch have progressed nicely. Tygart features two distinct secondaries in a high-70s CB and low-80s SL. CB flashes huge depth and sharp 12-to-6 break. He throws it with conviction and maintains his arm speed which only adds to its effectiveness. Tygart has above average command of it and can land it for strikes. High spin pitch that in '23 averaged over 2,800 RPM. Last season it generated a 39% miss rate and held opponents to a .067 average. Comfortably a 60-grade pitch. Like his CB, Tygart's SL is also plenty effective. He has advanced feel for it and can manipulate its shape. Against RHH it's a true sweeper with big time late horizontal action. Takes on more depth against LHH. 50% miss rate in '23 and also a plus pitch. To round out his arsenal, Tygart will occasionally mix in a high-80s CH. His feel for it is inconsistent, but it will sometimes flash big time fade to the arm side. Tygart will again start for Arkansas this season, but he could profile best professionally as a late-inning type. Regardless, his arm talent alone will most likely have him drafted in the 2nd-3rd round.

3B Kevin Bazzell (@TTU_Baseball) is sneaky one of the best pure hitters in this year's Draft class. In his first full collegiate season, he slashed .348/.453/.572 with 24 2B, 10 HR, 62 RBI, and more BB (45) than K (32). Tied the program record for most doubles in a season and was named First Team All-Big 12. Extremely simple setup in the box with a minimal stride and slight barrel tip. No wasted movement, takes a direct path to the baseball. Does an excellent job of consistently staying inside the ball. Level swing, barrel is in the hitting zone for a while. Hit over power profile, but the hit tool is a strong 60 with above average power to the pull side. Has an advanced approach along with plus bat-to-ball skills and plus feel for the barrel. Last season he worked a 92% overall IZ contact rate, including an absurd 96% IZ contact rate against FB. Converted catcher, can pick it over at 3B and continues to get better with time. Has a plus arm and has shown comfortability attacking the baseball. Hard worker who keeps his head down and is a darn good player. Potential top-2 round pick this July.

LHP Zach Root (@RazorbackBSB) is one of the best college lefthanders in this year's Draft class. After splitting time between the bullpen and rotation as a Freshman, Root last year was a full time starter and pitched his way to a 3.56 ERA with 76 Ks to 21 BB across 68.1 IP. Slightly undersized at 6'1" and 186-pounds, but there's present strength and physicality in his lower-half. Natural funk and deception in his delivery that includes a high leg lift and some tilt in his upper-half. Average arm stroke with a slight wrist coil, attacks from a mid-three quarter (maybe a tick lower) slot with a bit of cross fire. Root's FB will sit in the 91-94 range, but it was up to 97. Will flash arm side life through the zone and is best when located on either third (arm or glove side) of the plate or in the top-half. Not a real bat-misser right now, so refining its shape should be a point of focus both this spring and beyond. Bread and butter offerings are his secondaries. Root's low-80s CH gets averaged almost 10 MPH of separation off his heater and it's a pitch he throws with conviction. Consistently flashes fade to the arm side as well as late diving life. Generated a 46% miss rate last spring, would stick a plus grade on it. High-70s-to-low-80s CB flashes big-time depth with some sharpness. 11-to-5 shape against RHH, but will be longer than it is deep against LHH. Has a decent feel for the pitch, and last season it held opposing hitters to a minuscule .048 average while generating a 48% miss rate. Rounds out his arsenal with a mid-to-upper-80s CUT/SL that against LHH will flash sweeping life with some late bite. Potentially average offering. Would like to see his strike-throwing improve this season. Day 1 profile this July. (📽️: @ECUBaseball)

OF/1B Henry Ford (@UVABaseball) is one of the premier Sophomore-eligible bats in this year's Draft. Made a sizable impact as a Freshman to the tune of a .336/.409/.597 slash line with 13 2B, 17 HRs and 69 RBIs across 61 games. Was a First Team Freshman All-American and earned an invitation to Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Ford has an impressive build at 6'5" and 220-lbs. Certainly looks the part, big league body. Somewhat unique setup in the box, in which he has a bit of a wide stance. Ford sits pretty deep in his base and has a medium-high handset with the bat almost completely horizontal above his back shoulder. Minimal load, but a high leg lift leads into a small stride. For someone of his stature, Ford does a nice job of staying connected in his swing and taking a relatively direct path to contact. Average bat speed, Ford rotates well and really finishes his swing. Plenty of forearm strength. Above-average bat-to-ball skills, and last year had an overall IZ contact rate of 87% (including 91% against FB). Some trouble at times picking up spin out of the hand, which has led to some IZ miss on the outer-1/2 and some chase away and down. Also gets a little trigger happy with elevated FB. Ford can drive the ball from gap-to-gap, but he has a pull-oriented approach. Shoring up his pitch recognition skills and swing decisions will help maximize his hit tool. 50 hit. As mentioned, Ford has shown he can drive the baseball into either gap with authority. Regularly generates quality contact, the best of which comes to the pull side. Max EV last year was 112.4, including a 90th-percentile EV of 106.2. Most of his HR power has come to the PS, but he has muscled a few out to the opposite field. Power is a 55 for me. After spending all of last year at 1B, Ford this spring will man RF. His move to the OF has been a point of focus this fall and I'll be curious to see how he looks out there. Ford has an above-average arm, but I'm most interested in the instincts and route running. Regardless of where he ends up positionally (showing he can play a pro RF would certainly help), you're buying Ford's bat. Day 1 profile this July. (📽️: @UVABaseball)

Nick Kurtz (@WakeBaseball) is perhaps the only hitter in the 2024 draft class with a double-plus hit tool and double-plus raw power. Hit .353 last spring with 10 2B, 24 HR, 69 RBI, and an astronomical .527 OBP. Kurtz is a near-impossible AB for opposing pitchers with his excellent approach and advanced bat-to-ball skills. Combine his feel for the barrel and his long levers, and he is able to consistently square up the baseball no matter where it's thrown. Drives the ball with authority to all-fields, Kurtz' operation is uniquely compact/explosive for someone his size. Nimble and sure-handed defender at 1B, moves well in either direction with great baseball sense. If needed, could even be used in a corner OF spot. 35+ home run upside professionally.

Shortstop Kyle DeBarge (@RaginCajunsBSB) is one of my favorite non-P5 Draft prospects. After a strong Freshman season, DeBarge enjoyed a sensational Sophomore campaign in which he hit .371/.448/.546 with 15 2B, 7 HR, and 18 SB. Was an All-Sun Belt selection last year. Plays bigger than his 5'9", 175-pound frame suggests. Twitchy, athletic operation in the box. Front side starts slightly open, minimal load and stride with not a lot of unnecessary movement. Above average bat speed, extends really well through the baseball. Does a nice job of creating leverage to the pull side. Plus-plus bat-to-ball skills with an 88% overall contact rate (93% against FB), and an absurd 95% IZ contact rate. Advanced feel for the barrel. Pure hit tool is a 60. Strong defender up the middle with smooth actions. His natural athleticism really shines. Quick feet, good internal clock. Arm is a borderline 55, could end up at 2B long term where he profiles as an above average defender. 70-grade runner who this summer turned in < 4.00 home-to-first times. Absolutely flies when in gear! Product of National power Barbe High School. DeBarge is a winner and a leader in the dugout. Potential top-two round pick this July.

RHP Chase Shores (@LSUbaseball) is a big time college arm to follow in this year's Draft cycle. Showed serious flashes as a true Freshman in '23 and pitched his way to a 1.96 ERA with 15 Ks across 18.1 innings. Was out all of last year recovering from Tommy John Surgery. Allowed 1 ER on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts across 3 innings in one of the Tigers' scrimmages this fall. Extra-large and imposing frame at 6'8" and 245-pounds with strength and physicality throughout. Simple and powerful operation. Plenty of explosiveness. Shores has a somewhat abbreviated arm stroke and attacks from a low-three quarters slot with plenty of arm speed. For someone of his size and stature, he does a nice job of keeping everything in sync and not getting out of whack. Shores' fastball sits in the mid-to-high-90s and was up to 100 in 2023 and 102 in the fall of 2022. No shortage of life through the zone with ample arm-side run. Averaged nearly 17" of ASR in '23. Command can get a little scattered at times, which is something to watch going forward. Threw it 80% of the time in '23 and still generated a 25% miss rate. Also generated an impressive IZ swing rate of 73%. He supplements his FB with a high-70s-to-low-80s SL and a high-80s-to-low-90s CH. Slider will flash two-plane tilt with some sharpness to it, definite plus potential. There's the chance for Shores to develop a hellacious east-west, one-two punch with his FB and SL if he can add some more sweep/teeth to the latter. Power CH flashed above-average with heavy and late tumble, as well as fade to the arm side. Profiles as a legitimate weapon against LHH and a more than viable third pitch. Shores will need to take a step forward in the pitchability department and also continue to gain feel for his entire arsenal (especially his secondaries), but there is monstrous upside here. Day 1 profile this July with a chance to soar up boards with a strong spring. (🎥: @LSUbaseball)

One of the most dynamic players in all of college baseball this year is INF Seaver King (@WakeBaseball). He was the best player at the Division-II level last spring, posting a gaudy .411/.457/.699 slash line with 20 2B, 11 HR, and 53 RBI (Max EV of 112). Tore up the Cape League to the tune of a .424 average and 5 XBH across 16 games. Earned a spot on Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Athletic frame at 6', 190-pounds. Unbelievably explosive operation in the box with a low handset and thunderous bat speed. Flashes above average power to the pull side. Advanced bat-to-ball skills, had an 88% IZ contact rate between the Cape and Team USA. King is also a plus runner and has turned in 70-grade run times. Most of his experience in the field to this point has been at either 2B, SS, or 3B, but his speed and elite athleticism would translate well to CF. He's already made noise for Wake Forest this fall and has a chance to be a Top-20 overall pick this July.
