American friends, lemme tell you a story about how life was on the other side of the Iron Curtain. We had nothing to eat, literally, the shelves were empty, I had my first banana when I was 10. My father came home with 3 unriped bananas, once for each, my mom wrapped them in a propaganda newspaper to ripe, kept them there for a week, I used to check them every day. My story is well known across every country which had the bad luck to be on the wrong side.
In 1995 I had my first Coke. Michael Jackson came to Bucharest for a concert (the very first concert I attended to), people from his stuff gave a free cup of Coke to those lucky enough to be in the first lines). I still remember how it tasted like. For me, it was the taste of freedom.
Emotionally I feel more connected to the US than with my native Europe. You could never find better allies than us, who owe you our freedom. Don't feel sorry for your decision to push for a positive vote on Ukraine's military aid. You won't regret it.
