Walsh says “white Europeans” were the indigenous founders of America, but which ones?
The Southwest wasn’t settled by Norwegians or Irishmen. It was built by Spaniards and Novo-Hispanos, people born in New Spain, many mestizo, who pushed north from Zacatecas, Durango, and Coahuila.
The English along the Atlantic, the French in Louisiana, and the Spanish through New Spain.
The founders of Texas, California, and New Mexico weren’t Dubliners, they were soldiers and ranchers who were of mestizo, Indigenous, and criollo descent. That’s who settled Texas, New Mexico, and California. Their descendants still live on that land. That’s the real continuity.
The indigenous people of this country are white Europeans. They are the ones who founded the United States and populated it nearly exclusively in the beginning.
