ALT PACBI, a founding member of the largest Palestinian coalition that is leading the global BDS movement, welcomes the refusal of nine Eurovision contestants to remain silent. However, by participating in Eurovision alongside apartheid Israel while it carries out its live-streamed genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, armed and enabled by many European governments, the contestants would be complicit in artwashing these crimes. Feigning symbolic gestures of support while dismissing the call of the oppressed reflects a patronising and colonial attitude on the part of the contestants that is familiar to Palestinians, and many oppressed communities globally. Israel is defying the World Court and the UN Security council. This means everyone has a responsibility to end complicity in supporting or covering up its crimes. We call on all Eurovision contestants to withdraw from the contest, as a meaningful gesture of solidarity and to fulfil this moral responsibility to do no harm

ALT Once again, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) flaunts its colonial hypocrisy and shameless complicity in Israel’s genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza. With its latest justifications for allowing apartheid Israel to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest as it carries out its genocide in Gaza, while Russia was swiftly banned for its illegal invasion of Ukraine, the EBU proves its utter disregard for Palestinian life. The EBU has failed to ban genocidal Israel, failed to stand up for contestants who disagree with Israel’s participation, and failed to listen to millions of fans calling on it to drop Israel. In a desperate attempt to shift the blame, it now points the finger at human rights supporters. The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a founding member of the BDS movement, reiterates our call on all Eurovision contestants to be on the right side of history by immediately withdrawing from this year’s tarnished contest

ALT We share Olly Alexander's upset. The European Broadcasting Union has failed him and other contestants by refusing to ban genocidal Israel. But by insisting that he knows better than Palestinians Olly Alexander again flaunts a colonial mentality. We reiterate our call on Olly Alexander to boycott Eurovision. Doing no harm to the Palestinian freedom struggle by refusing to be complicit in artwashing genocide is a profound ethical duty. Olly, it's not too late to do the right thing. This moment could define the rest of your life. Consider your place in history.

As a movement we strongly oppose any personal attacks.
We salute Big Thief’s courage and their willingness to listen to the oppressed. We recognize, too, the clear position of a majority of the group’s fans of principled support for BDS.

ALT We call on Olly Alexander to show moral consistency and withdraw from Eurovision. Olly Alexander had signed a letter last October that said, “we, as LGBTQIA+ people, cannot let others weaponise our struggles for freedom on the basis of sexuality and gender identity to justify systemic occupation and genocide of a people.” And yet, participating in Eurovision while Israel is included would only help pinkwash and artwash its genocide against Palestinians as well as its underlying regime of apartheid. As with South Africa in the past, true solidarity entails heeding the calls of the oppressed, rather than opting for insignificant gestures while patronisingly claiming that they serve their best interests. We applaud the thousands of artists, including many queer artists, supporting the boycott of Eurovision 2024 over Israel’s participation. This is the moment for Eurovision participants including Olly Alexander to make history, instead of letting it pass them by.
