The long catalogue of one's errors—in each article whereof one is by turns author, sufferer, and penitent—is at times swallowed up in the vastness of the world, and thereby stripped of that dominion which, in a narrower compass, it might have usurped. For this cause privacy is so jealously guarded: it is nothing other than the right to remain human.
