Great to see Cloudy Glen, a horse who’s run very well in deep races, get a deserved win for the first time in 3 years.
He’s won snuggly in the end, but Charlie Deutsch has nursed him round brilliantly having looked a bit awkward early on!

The novice/beginners chase programme in the UK will look very different this season.
In October - December, there were 16 novice/beginners chases last season (non listed/graded level). The average field size was 3.6.
This season, there will 38 in that time period. 29 will be beginners (up from 4 last season)
They’ve also cut the number of novice handicaps down from 117 last season to 82 (again, only looking at October-December). This includes 12 less class 3’s. The average field size of a class 3 novice handicap last season was 5.5.
With all the extra beginners chases, I just don’t see how it will be possible to make them remotely competitive, even with the reduction in class 3 novice handicaps. There simply are not enough horses.

So many already writing off Willy De Houelle and throwing stones, but I wouldn’t be completely dismissing him just yet.
He was racing out of Paul Townend’s hands throughout, and the early sectionals suggest they went an overly strong pace, which clearly benefitted the held up winner.
His French form is still top class, and let’s not forget that Vauban & Majborough were both beaten on their first Irish start.
All is not lost!

By far the worst day I’ve ever had at Cheltenham.
Envoi falling let me down for four figures from £16 (thank God he was okay)
Add to that TBO at 25s, Fury Road at 20s, Huntsman Son at 40s finishing one out of the places and Plan of Attack falling when cantering.... bloodbath

Looks & pedigree scream chaser, gone well fresh previously & his second Ffos Las run reads very well. Improvement to come for a yard with a decent record with chase debutants 🤞
