Who can say they’ve Pinky Promised the Goat? I’ve often joked that if I did a Faker Interview well I’d quit. Yesterday I even walked out of the Press Room and jokingly said to my friends “Now I Must Weep For There Are No More Interviews to Conquer” It feels like the pinnacle but I also wanted to comment a little bit on the nature of this interview. It’s spurred a lot of discussion and potential criticism of Faker himself. This interview was conducted after their loss to TES and my initial euphoria at having gotten Faker was definitely shaken at the idea that I’d prepared an interview that had a lot of humour. Primarily I didn’t want to be disrespectful as Faker is revered as THE symbol of League Of Legends and to be a jester in a time of immense focus and burden I felt would not provide any momentary help as to the heaviness of the crown. People have said a lot about Faker’s PR training or even how he’s become more shut off in recent years and I felt like it would be remiss of me not to provide this anecdote. As I entered the room with him - before the recording started. I asked @ZeetwoZ2 to tell him that my interviews are typically filled with a lot of humour and that I wanted to clarify that in advance as I understood that might not be what he wanted to hear immediately after a loss. He was immediately very kind and said that it was Ok, that I should just do the interview as intended and that he didn’t mind. So I wanted to say that I appreciate Faker for “Playing Along” in a way that isn’t visible in the recording. I cannot begin to understand the focus that comes with being our Sport’s greatest, the responsibility he feels to his teammates and also the intense anxiety of misinterpretation and knowledge that his words can move mountains within this industry. I think these are all things to consider in the context of viewing our interview - context that has made me realise there are more interviews to conquer. So Faker님, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I hope that we can talk again in the future - hopefully in a less serious time. I promise not to do a barrel roll! Thank you also to @t1. I’m extremely grateful.

He hates being thanked but this is my appreciation post for @IWDominate Long story inbound The biggest mistake I ever made was gambling my student loan away on blackjack when I was 18. The second biggest mistake was trying to kill myself 30 minutes afterwards. I had come to University to escape a lot of shit and in the process really became lost with my own problems. I think one of the worst things that can happen to someone is when they’ve lived their whole life spinning and suddenly they have complete calm. With no action or violence around me I felt such an intense vertigo at all times. Part of my vertigo meant I really went introspective - I began to consider the person I’d become; how far away from who I wanted to be I was. That I’d never be enough for the potential I felt that I deserved. I think because of everything that had happened to me I felt I was owed something by the universe and when it never paid out I decided I was done. I survived fortunately but it didn’t mean much - I think that when I took those steps that a lot of light within me died. I spent the next few years cutting everyone in my real life off. I became a virulently toxic person to be around - the new people I surrounded myself with became a further backdrop for me to spread the same entitlement I felt deep in my soul. Instead of being sad and depressed I was so utterly angry that everyone became currency to me. Them feeling bad for my actions was just the way of the world and I felt 0 empathy. I was numb to feeling anything. Anyone who knew me back then - even if I was never wrong to them probably knew of my capacity to be awful to those close to me. Equally there are probably those who I still owe an apology to, to this day. I had strayed so far from the light I showed as a child. The thing about this that made me feel the most guilty was that I still showed enough light to make people stay. To convince them I was worth saving. But so many people burned trying to touch me. My only saving grace came at the hands of @JamadaLoL, he was the only one who convinced me I had an option to do something with my life. I had lived out the first few years of being 20 as a chronically online freak that was so obsessed with portraying that he was the man. That I was some sort of Casanova ladies man socialite but ultimately it was from a place of deep insecurity. It’s not as if this was solved overnight but it’s because of him I took my first opportunities and tried to rectify shit with my parents/friends. I got therapy, I got medicated. I tried to improve. Flash forward to MSI this year. I got my first chance to prove something. The adoration I felt from my initial interviews. Getting recognised in front of one of my IRLs. Hearing my own father be proud of me for the first time in years. I felt like my soul was weeping. When I saw so many people who I respected feel as if I was doing something right. Hearing @YamatoMebdi say that I had “character” and that I was “charismatic”. Part of me thought I’d died all those years ago and that I was dreaming this all. But it was really Dom who let me spread my wings this worlds. He helped me from a place of such immense kindness. He saw potential in me in a way that demanded no explanation. I didn’t feel like I had to fight to get what I had always felt like I was owed. I was no longer owed anything Dom just gave it to me with no questions asked. I can’t even describe the feeling when I told Dom how much I needed to go to Korea and he almost immediately sent it. I spent a lot of Korea immensely anxious. Anxious that I wasn’t doing enough to live up to the massive expectations that I felt I owed. I voiced this to Dom and all he had to say was “A Rising Tide Raises All Ships” in those words he explained to me that he was doing this because I was enough. That’s what gave me the confidence to finish so strongly. Thank you Dom. I don’t feel like I’m owed anything anymore. I want to make my own destiny.

First off: > Whatever you think of me, I was the interviewer who blew up because I brought a unique emotional intelligence to out-of-broadcast interviews: something the scene was lacking. So on this topic I know what I’m talking about. > I have the unique position, at least in comparison to most people chiming in on this, of having over 30 videos of players flooding tears out of their eyes on my home PC. Most if not all have never seen the light of day. > I find it difficult to view myself, but I am told constantly by people, that they felt they could pursue interviews from a “content creation” POV rather than purely Journalistic — because of me. > Conversely, I think I was just the first respondent to a coming wave, rather than someone who changed anything. So I think I can give perspective on this “new wave” of interviewers. I say all of this to qualify my opinion on this topic. I can be a pretty arrogant guy, but all of my outward validation for myself mostly comes from deep insecurity. However, interviewing is something that I truly believe, for the niche category of, Out of Broadcast - League of Legends interviewing, I was the best in the World for a time. Self-masturbatory victory lap over. Let’s unpack this. — Interviews are a really hard thing to do well in League. For every false assessed diatribe about how emotionally underdeveloped players are on Twitter, there are a million more complexities that lie beneath the surface. Process as such should always come from unpacking this complexity and delivering it in a way that doesn’t harm the athletes. Difficult conversations at times must be had, but when these conversations are failed to be had, it is always more helpful to look upon one’s shortcomings as a communicator perhaps, rather than looking at the athletes unwillingness to communicate. I say this because I can be honest, the first 2 years of chasing spotlight, via the access that Riot grants, is purely intoxicating. You are out for the views, the respect of industry figures, the encouragement from your riot reps, team reps, fellow journalists. So naturally you become geared for the big scoop, the big moment where a player reveals the big elephant in the room, talks about something difficult. This is something you have to quell within yourself as time goes on, but even at First Stand 2025, my 6th or so event? I still felt this way. I think when you see the older journalists, they have this of course, but the younger ones have all of it in spades, with no subtlety, such is the nature of our social media. I’m guilty of this also. Because the players is what are important. As much as you can become clouded by metrics, you have to view yourself as a sort of supplementary guide for the storyline, at your best you can help influence the broadcast narrative, or even maybe foster a talking point between players. At worst, you’re tossing the coals of a fire that has burnt for many years, participating. And players won’t always give you what you want. I look at my Faker interview in 2024 as like, despite being my most viewed interview, not being a very good interview, he didn’t give me much at all. But conversely I recognise that as a response to issues that he had faced at the hands of other interviews, irresponsibility of emotional intelligence that led to him being clammed up and guarded. But you should never think to react as that being the players fault. They don’t owe you anything. Even if you travelled, put yourself up, any of this. You can put some onus on Riot for giving you a certain amount of access, or push for transparency on what access you’ll get. But once you’re in that interview room. Whatever happens is on you.

Hello right back at you, I have a few opinions I will be sharing. To avoid being inflammatory I’ll first say that I find yours and the quoted persons characterisation of this issue to be extremely dishonest but I will try to tackle that as respectfully as I can. I’ll try not to include my personal opinions on EWC, although they’re out there. Because it’s not actually relevant to my criticism of you and the attached post. 1. I’ve always found the idea of “no politics” to be quite paradoxical, given that it’s inherently a political decision. The logical defence to this that you’ve hinted at in your rhetoric is that this is a consistent ruling, however I’d like to point out a no politics rule makes sense when said politics aren’t relevant to streamer or content: but in this case, the politics comes from the streamers own personal choice. If you’re going to platform a political event (of course it’s political it’s not just a league event let’s not be stupid) it’s only fair that the community gets to talk about it. Thats not random spam - it’s directly relevant discussion. 2. Which is why I find it dishonest that you’ve recognised the need to make a concession but have chosen to do it in this way. If your goal isn’t to silence anyone, why have you created a containment space (pinned post) which is the only pressure valve in the community for criticism. Using this in conjunction with the necessity of “civil” discussion just creates a filter by way of suppression. I think it’s extremely dishonest to frame this in a way of anti censorship. It’s akin to governments allowing limited areas for protest, curbing ability to protest and then in the advent of an extremely limited protest saying “look they can protest” This method only achieves a few things > discussion reaches fewer people > real dialogue is limited > is easily ignored by fans and community So it’s suppression, don’t dress it up as anything else. You’re also just in general disencouraging honest participation in discussion. This is an extremely emotionally charged issue for many marginalised peoples and > They’re told their concerns belong in a low-traffic thread. > Emotional or “un-civil” (vagueness of this means bad faith interpretation possible) responses are policed. > Others have been moderated for raising the issue in visible places. Silencing deletes your voice. Containment keeps it somewhere no one will hear it. It becomes a token concession. Both suppress dissent, one just has better PR.
