Christian Bale on meeting Donald Trump on the set of ‘THE DARK KNIGHT RISES’ in 2011: “We were filming on ‘Batman’ in Trump Tower and he said, come on up to the office. I think he thought I was Bruce Wayne, because I was dressed as Bruce Wayne. So he talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne and I just went along with it, really. It was quite entertaining. I had no idea at the time that he would think about running for president.”

Christopher Nolan confirms that #Oppenheimer will be almost 3 hours long: “It's slightly longer than the longest we've done (Interstellar). It's kissing three hours. I think of any character I've dealt with, Oppenheimer is by far the most ambiguous and paradoxical. Which, given that I've made three Batman films, is saying a lot.” (Via @totalfilm)

A quick summary of the reviews of French critics who saw OPPENHEIMER yesterday: - Everyone agrees that the film is very dense, perhaps the most dense of Nolan's filmography, but that it remains easy to understand, unlike Tenet. - Ludwig Göransson's score is so extraordinary that the film has been compared to an opera. - Technically, the film is outstanding and highly inventive, which prevents it from being a basic biopic. - The last hour is very divisive, but even people who don't like Nolan loved the first 2 hours. - The film is not at all commercial and will have trouble topping the 300 million mark at the box office. Quite cold, no action and lots of long (but brilliant) dialogue scenes. One French critic compared it to The Social Network. - As for the female characters, everyone agrees that Pugh's character deserved more development. Emily Blunt, on the other hand, is praised for her final arc. - Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and particularly Robert Downey Jr have a good chance of winning an Oscar. But the whole cast is impressive, even those with very few scenes like Gary Oldman. - This is Nolan's most politically relevant film.

Christopher Nolan explains why the nuclear explosion in #Oppenheimer is initially silent: “It felt, to me, very daunting to portray the world’s first nuclear explosion without sound. But I started to realize that it gave us the opportunity to show a very, very unique moment in these people’s lives, where they’re seeing what’s happening, but in a way, not yet feeling the consequences of it. It seemed kind of like a perfect metaphor for the whole film, in a way.”

Quentin Tarantino after his first viewing of Interstellar : "We’re waiting for the movie to start and it hit me. I realised that it hadn’t been since The Matrix that I was actually that interested in seeing a movie even though I didn’t know what I was going to see. It's been a while since somebody has come out with such a big vision to things. Even the elements, the fact that dust is everywhere, and they're living in this dust bowl that is just completely enveloping this area of the world. That's almost something you expect from [Andrei] Tarkovsky or [Terrence] Malick, not a science fiction adventure movie." (Source : @guardian)

Christopher Nolan says he was blown away by Cillian Murphy's performance in 'OPPENHEIMER': “In truth, there are just not that many actors that you could say, on a first-person approach, 'Yeah, we’re going to be this guy for three hours.' You’re making a demand of an actor that very few actors in the history of film can rise to. I will say that even with that confidence in him, he was continually surprising me on set every day. And when we got into the edit suite and were putting the performance together, and seeing the truth of it, I was absolutely blown away.” (via @totalfilm)

Christopher Nolan shot scenes from 'OPPENHEIMER' at Princeton University where Oppenheimer and Einstein worked together after World War II. Oppenheimer’s old office had been remodeled and looked too modern. But Einstein’s old office has been preserved, and the production was given permission to use it and redress it to create Oppenheimer’s office. (Source: Oppenheimer Production Notes)

Christopher Nolan describes his reaction the first time he found David Hill's testimony: “When I found David Hill’s testimony, where he just got up in front of a Senate committee in front of the whole nation and told the truth about who Lewis Strauss was, that’s an extraordinary moment. His testimony was devastating because he literally talked about Strauss’s vengeful nature. These things don’t happen in real life, usually. It is the stuff of artifice.” The Hill moment was crucial enough to make Christopher Nolan realize that Lewis Strauss could be a main character.

Christopher Nolan considers he's made 3 different movies with #Oppenheimer: “The film starts as a sort of heroic origin story, if you like: Young Oppenheimer. And then, in the middle of the film, when it jumps on to the Los Alamos project, it becomes a heist film, really. It’s about trying to put a team together and pull off an impossible project. In terms of imagery, I’ve always thought that part was very much a Western. The last act is a full-on courtroom drama. I’ve always been fascinated by courtroom dramas, I always wanted to make one.”

Christopher Nolan on the making of The Dark Knight Rises : "There are no good third sequels, basically. Rocky III maybe. But they are very difficult. So my instinct was to change genres. The first one is an origin story. The second one is a crime drama very much like Heat, and the third one, we needed to blow up bigger, because you can’t scale down. The audience doesn’t give you any choice, but nor can you go back and do what you did before. So you’ve got to shift genres. We went for the historical epic, the disaster film, The Towering Inferno meets Doctor Zhivago." Source : Tom Shone’s book “The Nolan Variations”.
