My thoughts exactly, as soon as I saw that it instantly just felt disrespectful to Yoda
I do not care if it was worded wrong or if there was no malicious intent with the statement, shit still is mad disrespectful not only to Yoda but to ppl playing out of country in general
i’m not going to name the individual in question but if you’re a person in the community who highlights players or player accomplishments and even someone who works on seeding, you should be the LAST person saying:
“He’s not even going to be the best placing Bowser Jr at the tournament and it’ll be funny” about a player competing at a foreign country
For context, Yoda Cage was the ONLY Top 128 American Rep at Kagaribi x Kowloon, A Japanese Smash Major. It goes without say that traveling to a foreign country for anyone can be cost heavy and stressful especially to compete at a high level.
It's very frustrating as a competitor, watch someone take a big risk like that and have someone else who influences seeding at majors, nitpicking who and what to highlight, disrespect a player, a person, in that way. You could have said “I think X player will be the highest placing bowser Jr” or “i hope this player does well” instead of saying “This person will not achieve their goals for this event and i will laugh at them”
You influence peoples projections and paths in bracket and you’re talking about competitors like that? Genuinely, Who do you think you are? When you have a presence in the community as important as that and you’re gonna laugh at someone underperforming when they are taking such a massive risk? You just sit at home and tweet about how x player beat y player and have constant obvious bias.
Anyone can pick up what you do within seconds but it can take years to accomplish some of the things i’ve seen my fellow competitors and rivals do. I applaud Sparg0, Yoda Cage and any player who travels outside of their country, continent, or to compete anywhere else. Shouts to EU, JP, LATAM and anyone else i missed for traveling to America or NA and competing in such brutal environments sometimes.
Seeders having bias that have influenced brackets has been dated soo far back, PG Suar with Nakat in smash 4 because he “didn’t like him”and First Ult Genesis Seeders with European players calling them “penguins”
Why as competitors we just let these type of people run around making decisions and influencing our bracket runs while they sit back and laugh behind our backs? It’s truly sickening that we’re expected to perform at the best peak level we can at all times and any excuses or issues we had need to be negated because we just have to be “better players”
Be better people first
