📢 My First Bitcoin receives $1 million grant from #startsmall to advance independent Bitcoin Education around the world May 13, 2025 – We are proud to announce that My First Bitcoin has received a $1 million grant from #startsmall. With this financial support from Jack Dorsey's philanthropic initiative, we will continue to serve grassroots Bitcoin education initiatives worldwide. This grant accelerates our work in the creation and distribution of free and open-source Bitcoin education materials and infrastructure. It will not only help us improve existing resources, such as the Bitcoin Diploma, Bitcoin Intro Course, and teacher training workshops, but also to scale our digital platforms like our Online School and Community Hub.   As a non-profit, founded in 2021, we have grown from a local project into a global movement. Besides creating curricula and frameworks, our team has directly taught tens of thousands of in-person students, as we workshop and refine our materials based on real world feedback. In 2023, we launched the Independent Bitcoin Educators Node Network, providing a space for others to join us on our mission. The network spans 65+ projects from 35+ countries, including circular economies, meetup organizers and other grassroots projects. All commit to the same six pillars: that their education is independent, impartial, community-led, Bitcoin-only, quality, and focused on empowerment over profit. While we support that network, it is now self-governing. We always seek to give power-to, rather than have power-over. For Immediate Release: Massive Bitcoin Education Program Launch in El Salvador (Sept 7, 2023) Usulután, El Salvador--This morning, with support from @MyFirstBitcoin_ & @BitcoinBeach, the Ministry of Education (@EducacionSV) began a pilot program that could bring Bitcoin education to every school in the country in 2024. The pilot program, which launched on the 2-year anniversary of the #BitcoinLaw, will teach 150 public school teachers about Bitcoin. Those teachers will then return to their own classrooms, scattered around the nation, and teach in their local school. @MyfirstBitcoin_ is a Bitcoin education NGO & non-profit based in El Salvador which has taught over 25,000 in-person, in-country students since launching in 2021. Last year they developed a 10-week #BitcoinDiploma and began teaching it around the nation. It has since been open-sourced and improved, currently on the 5th edition. This diploma was taught to staff from the Ministry of Education earlier this year and is the material being used today to teach the teachers. The Ministry has used it as primary source material to develop their own curriculum which the teachers will use in their local schools as the pilot program expands. @Bitcoinbeach is the pioneering Bitcoin circular economy project that’s success helped lead to the nation adopting Bitcoin as legal tender. They have also assisted with trainings as well as provided funding to print books. @bitcoinofficesv, an official government office and another pioneering product born in El Salvador, has also been instrumental in getting the project off the ground and ensuring its success. This is in addition to their work with @cuboplus which is a separate, ongoing education program focused on elite developers. @MyfirstBitcoin_ was founded with two ambitious goals in mind: to help teach a nation Bitcoin & to help make El Salvador into an example for the world to follow. While the Ministry of Education in El Salvador forges new ground, the world is taking notice. @MyfirstBitcoin_ works with grassroots education projects in over 20 nations, sharing their open-source materials and best practices. They have also begun early talks with two additional LatAm governments interested in providing Bitcoin education at scale.

Hello World, we’ve been hard at work the past year finding circular economies and education teams all over the world to build open source bitcoin education together. We call this initiative the ‘Node Network’ – it is a group of educators from all over the world who believe that bitcoin education should be impartial, high quality, and led by educators in the community. But that doesn't mean we will stop. 🇸🇻✋❌ On the contrary—this situation amplifies and highlights the need for what we have been preaching for 3 years: Open Source Bitcoin Education for the World. Community-led and grassroots. We were never (!) funded by any government, and we never will be. And the past days show exactly why. And if it wasn't clear enough yet: El Salvador abandoned Bitcoin as legal tender because of the IMF. The IMF has always been our enemy. It is incompatible with Bitcoin and with what we teach. The same goes for stablecoins, banks, dollar dominance, or anything crypto-related. We’re grateful to @Blockstream for this opportunity and for providing free tools to global educational projects, empowering students with wallets for hands-on, practical learning experiences. OUR VISION: How to change the world in three simple steps My First Bitcoin is built around a core concept: that independent, impartial, community-led Bitcoin education will change the world. This isn't about Bitcoin, but rather what Bitcoin will teach us: critical thought, personal responsibility and ultimately self-sovereignty. It teaches us to lower our time preference and look further into the future—and that changes everything. When we have control over our lives and future, it encourages us to build and plan. Bitcoin allows us to define our destiny. Our highest-level strategy has three prongs: First; create an example in El Salvador that demonstrates and documents Bitcoin education as a tool for empowerment at mass scale [Mi Primer Bitcoin—El Salvador] As the first nation to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador will be an example for the world—we get to decide what sort of example that will be. When used correctly Bitcoin is a tool that empowers individuals to make their own decisions and as educators introducing new people to the space it is extremely important that we never dictate to students but rather allow them to come to their own conclusions. In many ways this is the path of most-resistance, but it is also a cornerstone value. Cooption is our enemy, and we will have to constantly confront it. Fiercely resisting outside influence—from sponsors, governments or anyone else—will be difficult. It will mean that we will decline some opportunities, which is why the communities we serve will deeply value those that do understand and support the mission. Even while we grow, we must always strive for quality. In fact, quality is MORE important than quantity. This means we need to always iterate and improve upon our offerings as well as always strive to improve ourselves. We need to be self-critical. We also need to forge new ground, which is difficult but necessary. This first prong is the most important; it is what the next two are built upon. El Salvador is the example. Second; create a toolkit to make that example easy to copy by open-sourcing everything & creating easy, international communication channels [node network] El Salvador is the focus, but the mission is the world. This has never been done before. Bitcoin can be humanity’s first revolution. In every previous ‘revolution’ we have fought over who has power, we now have a chance to change our very relationship with power. As we grow, we will make a lot of mistakes and learn a lot of lessons. We operate on a Bitcoin standard in a fiat world. We must build new systems and trailblaze new paths. When we open-source everything—not just educational materials but things like accounting, media, communication and even how we make decisions internally—then it will be much easier for anyone, anywhere to copy or iterate upon our template. While we seek to create new systems and open-source everything, we are also building out a global decentralized communication layer—a network of nodes. Each node agrees to a basic core consensus about Bitcoin education—that it must be: independent; impartial; community-led, high-quality; Bitcoin-only; and teach empowerment. The communication needs to be multi-directional. El Salvador is the genesis block but all of the nodes in the global decentralized network must be able to easily and independently communicate with each other to share their own best practices and lessons learned. This will dramatically speed up the timeline and increase the quality. The network will have nodes in 21 nations by the end of this year. This is a serious attempt to replace the existing order and making the status quo irrelevant. There will be resistance. Diffusing the core ideas in a way that is efficient, decentralized and international will make it extremely resilient. Once something becomes unstoppable, it becomes inevitable. We are building an unstoppable machine. Third; create a common banner under which diverse interests can align--we don’t have to agree on other things, but independent, impartial, community-led bitcoin education is something for all to rally behind. A rising tide raises all boats. [advisory board] By focusing solely on independent, impartial, community-led education, and doing so with complete transparency, we can create a common ground that everyone can support. People come at Bitcoin from diverse perspectives, but, like Bitcoin itself, we want to encourage collaboration over competition. There are lots of other great projects doing wonderful things but because our geographic vision is so broad (the world) we need to maintain a narrow focus on what we do. If it’s not Bitcoin education, then we will leave the task to others. This common ground, that is difficult to oppose and easy to unite behind, manifests itself by creating an advisory board of all the diverse industry leaders and creating a common table. This will also lend legitimacy, which will allow the network to grow even faster. This will incentivize industry leaders to be involved and create a positive feedback loop. This common ground will manifest itself in the physical world at an annual charity Gala in El Salvador, which won’t just serve as a fundraiser but also to entrench that vision and give it physical space.

Announcement: We have a winner! @Cuba_BTC just won the first $1,000 Node Grant, based on their achievements in the last months! We know how hard it is for @Cuba_BTC to receive outside financial support, so this grant will go a long way. Let us explain… At My First Bitcoin, we're building a grassroots, decentralized and self-governed education network made of Bitcoin communities all around the world teaching the Bitcoin Diploma and empowering individuals through independent Bitcoin education. We call it the Node Network. Today, there are 28 nodes in the network from 22 countries. @Cuba_BTC is one of them. A couple of months ago, an anonymous donor got really excited about the development of the Node Network, and decided he would support one node with a $1,000 donation. Awesome! Instead of choosing unilaterally who would receive the grant, we proposed to the network to organize a vote, based on the most PoW achieved in the last months. To create fair and common ground to base the vote on, we created a Github directory where each node would create their own profile. This is Cuba Bitcoin's directory: github.com/MyFirstBitcoin/Li… After a 2-week voting session, the nodes chose Cuba Bitcoin as the winner of the Node Grant! 🎉 @Forte11Cuba , @bitalion and @Catry_a began teaching the Bitcoin Diploma in 2023. To date they have graduated 2 cohorts, with 40 students graduated in total! They also run meet-ups, educational activities and bitcoin adoption initiatives. This grant will help Cuba Bitcoin expand; with their 3rd cohort, they will be teaching in two cities simultaneously for the first time! They also plan on setting up their own Bitcoin node and website with @BtcpayServer to receive payments and donations in a sovereign way. Last year, @JoeNakamoto shared a tweet of Cuba Bitcoin which lead to @PeterMCormack making a donation of $500 to Cuba Bitcoin: nitter.app/JoeNakamoto/stat… Today, an anonymous donor made a $1000 donation to help them continue empowering their community by providing open-source Bitcoin education to the Cuban people.
