From Night City to Kamona: The Story Behind Cyberpunk 2077 x Arena Breakout: Infinite
The Arena Breakout: Infinite x Cyberpunk 2077 collaboration has started on July 29th. Have you experienced the exclusive events in Kamona? It seems that many players are curious about what made this collaboration happen. So today, we’ve invited the Arena Breakout: Infinite team to share the stories behind it.
Q: Why consider collaborating with Cyberpunk 2077, which has such a vastly different world setting?
A: We first conducted an in-game survey, where players shared the brands they were most excited to see collaborations with. Among them, Cyberpunk 2077 stood out as a top choice. At the same time, our team is equally passionate about this IP, which led us to start exploring some early ideas for the collaboration.
We decided to move forward with the collaboration after discovering some commonalities between Arena Breakout: Infinite and Cyberpunk 2077. In Cyberpunk 2077, the Badlands—a dangerous and desolate area outside Night City—is filled with dangerous adversaries and constant threats. This setting feels strikingly similar to Kamona in our game, a region divided and shaped by foreign forces, mercenary groups, corporations, and warlords. With such similar settings, we couldn’t help but wonder: what exciting possibilities would emerge if we first combined the unique traits of both worlds and then reimagined them within our Dark Zone? That curiosity became the very first step in launching this collaboration.
After extensive exploration, we’ve decided to focus on bringing players a fresh visual style and gameplay experience unlike anything they’ve encountered before.
Q: How did you blend the styles of Arena Breakout: Infinite and Cyberpunk 2077 in this collaboration? What special elements did you incorporate into the process?
A: In Arena Breakout: Infinite, weapon skins played a central role in this collaboration.
We started by looking at the weapon designs in Cyberpunk 2077 to identify prototype guns that aligned with real-world firearm principles. Ultimately, we selected two that best fit the style of Arena Breakout: Infinite: the Tsunami Nekomata, which is the inspiration for the M110’s skin design, and President Myers’ Hawk, which became the basis for the skin design of the AK12.
During the design process, we hoped to simulate the appearance of prototype weapons using products that date back to the 1990s. For example, the Nekomata, the prototype weapon for the M110 collaboration skin, is a tech sniper rifle in Cyberpunk 2077. So we incorporated a flexible circuit board design around the front of the barrel, with glowing effects on the board to mimic energy transmission. This strikes a unique balance between cyberpunk aesthetics and hardcore realism.
As for the AK12, our initial plan was to base its skin design on M251s Ajax, the weapon that shares its name with the boss of Arena Breakout: Infinite. However, we found that the iconic prototype weapon Hawk would better match in both style and functionality. So ultimately, we chose Hawk as the centerpiece of the design concept. The final design embraces Hawk’s striking aesthetic, incorporating its signature soft-circuit visuals with orange light strips, while integrating elements from M251s Ajax’s coating.
Additionally, we selected three other distinctive factions from the game—the ruthless gangs of the Tyger Claws and Maelstrom, plus the megacorp Arasaka—and integrated some of their thematic elements into our weapon skin designs. Which one do you prefer?
In addition to weapon skins, we are also bringing in the Rayfield Caliburn as a red item. This iconic vehicle from Cyberpunk 2077 leaves a strong impression on players as a super cool and highly expensive ride, making it a must-have purchase for Night City legends. By bringing this into our collaboration event, we want to ensure that when players see this red item, their first thought will be: "This is premium, top-tier loot!" We’re confident it will be a pleasant surprise for fans of both games.
