Through a partnership with @AllofUsResearch, MCW’s Dr. Anai N. Kothari and second-year medical student Carson Gehl are utilizing Fitbit data collected from surgical candidates to measure how physical activity impacted the risk for postoperative complications.
With the provided data, the pair found that those who took more than 7,500 steps a day had a 51% lower risk of postoperative complications 90 days after surgery.

Dr. Sahoo joined the MCW faculty in 2007 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and has since held several leadership positions at MCW, including serving as the President of the Faculty Council from 2020-2021 and has been significantly involved in graduate and medical education. Dr. Sahoo has also been nationally recognized for her work studying how the circulation of cholesterol in the body affects cardiovascular disease.

Jose, who was part of MCW’s class of 1990, and Rose, MCW class of 1991, met while practicing at @milwaukeeva.
Jose was taking care of a veteran with an arrythmia and requested a cardiology consultation. Rose was the student who performed the consultation. The picture below is shortly after they met in 1990.
Currently, Dr. Jose Franco serves as a professor of medicine (gastroenterology and hepatology), senior associate dean for educational improvement at MCW, and interim chair for the Department of Health Sciences Education.
