Lights for a legend.
Los Angeles City Hall lit in purple and gold starting at 8:24 p.m. this evening in honor of Kobe Bryant’s storied championship career and in memory of Bryant, his daughter, Gianna, and all who perished in today’s tragedy.
This weekend we saw too many people packing beaches, trails and parks. So we are closing sports and recreation at @LACityParks and closing parking at city beaches. That doesn’t mean gather elsewhere. This is serious. Stay home and save lives.
This is footage from today in MacArthur Park.
Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through.
The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW.
Absolutely outrageous.
It’s official: our City Council has voted to rename Rodeo Road to Obama Boulevard!
We’re thrilled that Angelenos and visitors will forever be reminded of the legacy of President @BarackObama when traveling across L.A.
Today I authorized the City to disconnect utility service at a house in the Hollywood Hills to stop the large parties held there in flagrant violation of our public health orders. Parties like these can quickly and easily spread the virus and put our communities at risk.
During the Closing Ceremony, the first woman Mayor of Paris will pass the Olympic flag to the first woman Mayor of Los Angeles.
In that moment, I hope we’ll be showing girls across the world that they can run for gold, and they can also run for office.
Tonight, we make history.
The responsibility for George Floyd’s death rests solely with the police officers involved. Chief Moore regrets the words he chose this evening and has clarified them.
A message for all Angelenos: Here in Los Angeles, we will not be coordinating with ICE.
Your city is on your side, we are in this together → Mayor.LA/z6b930p7ij5
It wasn’t a drug den — it was a Home Depot.
Don’t be fooled — Trump’s orders aren’t about safety, they are designed to attack our city and cause chaos.
I want to thank LAPD and local law enforcement for their work tonight. I also want to thank @GovernorNewsom for his support.
Just to be clear, the National Guard has not been deployed in the City of Los Angeles.
This evening, more than 40 people were sent by the Governor of Texas to our City of Los Angeles.
Shortly after I took office, I directed City Departments to begin planning for an event like this.
This did not catch us off guard.
We are now executing our plan. 1/3
These are the emergency steps we are taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 & protect people across LA, effective at midnight tonight. This isn’t easy & I don't make this decision lightly. We will do everything we can to help businesses & workers impacted during this time.
ALT By Executive Order of the Mayor of Los Angeles, the following establishments within the City of L.A. are closed to the public:
Bars and Nightclubs*
*Bars are able to sell food for takeout only
Dine-in Restaurants*
*Restaurants are able to sell food for takeout only
Entertainment venues
Including but not limited to movie theaters, live-performance venues, bowling alleys and arcades.
Gyms and Fitness Studios
I want the entire nation to hear me when I say this isn’t just an attack on the people of LA, this is an attack on every person in every city in this country.
Today’s ruling is not only dangerous – it’s un-American and threatens the fabric of personal freedom in the U.S.
Breaking News: The Supreme Court lifted restrictions on ICE agents in Los Angeles, allowing them to make indiscriminate stops based on factors like ethnicity. nyti.ms/4geESSt
They gave ICE a budget bigger than most of the world’s militaries.
Instead of investing in housing, jobs, or health care, they’re funding fear — tearing families apart in our neighborhoods.
These raids must end.
The White House just sent federal agents to try to intimidate elected officials at a press conference.
The problem for them is, Los Angeles doesn’t get scared and Los Angeles doesn’t back down.
We never have and we never will.
I have lifted the curfew in the City of Los Angeles. We remain strongly committed to protecting the right of Angelenos to make their voices heard and ensuring the safety of our community.
Thank you, @KingJames, for generously sending a taco truck to support our @LAFD firefighters, first responders, and partner agencies working to fight the #GettyFire.
This morning, I’m thinking about the children in Los Angeles waking up on Father’s Day wondering if they’ll ever see their dad again.
We’ve heard reports of fathers being snatched from car washes, Home Depots, and swap meets.
This doesn’t make L.A. safer.
These raids must end.

We need every Californian to help conserve energy. Please do your part. #FlexAlert
I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but you need to cancel the party, barbecue or get together you planned for Labor Day weekend. Gatherings like that can spread COVID-19 and put lives at risk.
Please do your part to slow the spread.
What just happened to @SenAlexPadilla is absolutely abhorrent and outrageous.
He is a sitting United States Senator.
This administration’s violent attacks on our city must end.
L.A. is proud to be home to the largest Armenian diaspora. We stand with the people of Armenia. I urge our leaders in Washington to conduct the sustained and rigorous diplomacy necessary to bring peace to the Artsakh region. Turkey must disengage.
Firefighters from Mexico, Canada, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Idaho, and New Mexico are here. Our local, regional, and state partners have all stepped up to help.
It’s all hands on deck to fight these fires.
This is unity and partnership in action.
My office just received word that the 9th Circuit ruled in favor of Angelenos. The Temporary Restraining Order to stop unconstitutional and reckless raids has been upheld.
This is a victory for Los Angeles — I will ALWAYS fight for our city.
We’re going to have to celebrate differently this year. Everyone should cancel plans with others for the 4th of July. You shouldn’t gather with anyone who doesn’t live in your household.
Please stay home and save lives — it’s that simple.
There’s no denying it –– this has been a hard year.
This championship win means so much to our city and the people who call it home.
Thank you @Lakers for bringing us together. We’re lighting the night in purple and gold to celebrate. #ForKobe
ALT Los Angeles City Hall shown at night illuminated in purple and gold in honor of the L.A. Lakers winning the NBA championship.
COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in our county. The threat posed by this virus is very real. The sacrifices we’re making to help flatten the curve are working, but there's still a long road ahead.
Now is not the time to let up.
Food is continually en route to our stores. There is no shortage of food and no interruption in supply. Remember, we're all in this together and shouldn't hoard more than we need.
I know many of you are feeling frustrated or wondering when we'll be able to lift the Safer at Home order. But lifting the restrictions too soon could risk lives. My promise to the people of L.A. is that evidence and medicine will continue to guide us through this crisis.
Ermias Asghedom was an artist, entrepreneur, activist and philanthropist.
He was an Angeleno.
He loved this city and gave of himself to uplift his neighborhood and his neighbors.
Our city mourns his loss, but his legacy endures.
Rest in peace, Nipsey Hussle.
Justice Sotomayor said it best in her dissent:
“We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, & appears to work a low wage job.”
We will not be divided. We will not stop fighting to protect our communities.
Nope, definitely not aliens.
What you’re looking at is the first launch and landing of the @SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on the West Coast. The rocket took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:21 p.m. and landed safely back on Earth. 🚀
What a proud day for L.A.! This boulevard that connects our city is now named for one of the greatest presidents that this nation has ever seen. #ObamaBlvd
🚨🇺🇸LA MAYOR SAYS “NO THANKS” TO FIRE RELIEF... BECAUSE ELON HELPED?!
Wildfires left LA firefighters scrambling without Wi-Fi or cell service to coordinate their efforts.
Elon stepped in, sending Starlink-equipped Cybertrucks to restore communications.
The mayor’s office asked for help too—but once Karen Bass found out Elon was involved, she shut it down.
Turns out, saving lives takes a backseat to personal grudges.
Priorities, right?

I’m issuing a Safer at Home emergency order — ordering all residents of @LACity to stay inside their homes and immediately limit all nonessential movement. We’re taking this urgent action to limit the spread of COVID-19 and save lives. facebook.com/MayorOfLA/video…
On Saturday, the President posted a message about what a great job the National Guard did in L.A.
They didn’t even get here until Sunday.
This entire effort is solely to cause chaos and the people of Los Angeles — and our troops — don’t deserve it.
Everyone wants to know when life will go back to normal. The truth is we're not moving past COVID-19, we’re learning to live with it and take gradual steps forward. Our Safer at Home order will remain beyond May 15, but will be adjusted to let more people get back to work safely.
A test is not a passport to party.
Just because you test negative for COVID-19 doesn't mean you should get together with people outside your household. We all need to continue to avoid gatherings. This virus is deadly and we must stop the spread.
As a result of immigration raids, parents are afraid to take their kids to school, workers are unsure if they should go to work tomorrow, and young people are worried about their future.
That does not make L.A. safer.
We are strong. We are resilient. We are in this together.
Soldiers have been forced away from their families, their careers, their futures — and for what? To guard two buildings?
The National Guard deployment was performative. Plain and simple.
For everything that we do, we will continue to lock arms and we will continue to lead — and we will always put people’s health and wellbeing over politics. 3/3

ALT The City of LA has introduced limited COVID-19 testing for certain high-risk populations. We are working to expand testing as quickly as possible to provide this service to all Angelenos who need it.
Current populations eligible:
People 65 and older who are showing symptoms of COVID-19
People with underlying health conditions who are showing symptoms of COVID-19
People who have been exposed to a confirmed case

It's my hope that together, along with Mayor Hidalgo, we sent the message to girls all around the world that they can do anything — they can run for gold and they can run for office.

Since the raids began, over 170 American citizens have been detained by federal agents without warrants, without probable cause, and without due process.
Let that sink in: 170 U.S. citizens, unlawfully detained in our own country.
Hundreds of @LAFD firefighters have been fighting fires through the night.
Thank you to all the crews working tirelessly to respond and protect life and property.
We won’t let one weekend undo a month of progress.

I’m with more than 20 state and federal elected officials, and together, we are here to say we will NOT put up with what the administration is doing.
Enough is enough. Stop the raids.
The Trump administration told us they were going after violent criminals, gang members, and drug dealers.
But they went after a home depot. They’re going after families and children.
That does not make Los Angeles more safe.
I just declared a state of emergency on homelessness to unlock every tool and authority at our disposal to bring unhoused Angelenos inside.
This is a matter of life and death and that’s exactly how my administration will treat it.
It is a new day in Los Angeles.
Effective today, I am lifting the curfew in Downtown Los Angeles.
As we continue to adapt quickly to the chaos coming out of Washington, I’m prepared to reinstate it if necessary.
The safety and stability of LA remains my top priority.
Acting in the best interests of Los Angeles’ public safety, and for the operations of the Los Angeles Fire Department, I have removed Kristin Crowley as Fire Chief.
1,000 firefighters were sent home on Chief Crowley’s watch the day the fires broke out.
Chief Crowley refused to do an after action report on the fires.
These require her removal. mayor.lacity.gov/news/mayor-…
As we cheer our @Lakers’ 17th championship, please remember it's still not safe to gather in groups. Let’s honor our city's triumph by protecting others and making sure we don't spread the virus.
Please celebrate safely at home. Do not gather at Staples Center. Thank you!
The impact of these fires and winds are devastating.
I just got off the phone with @POTUS and discussed an urgent path forward towards recovery for the thousands of families impacted.
Thank you @CAgovernor and Senator @AlexPadilla4CA for your continued support for our city.
I know we're all anxious to return to our routines –– to see the people we love and visit the places that make this city home. But please take this health pandemic seriously –– stay home and practice physical distancing. Every single choice you make could save a life or risk one.
We’re launching a new, simple intake system to report price gouging — call @MyLA311 to report illegally hiked rents and prices.
We have no tolerance for it.
Tomorrow, across the country, there will be large demonstrations protesting what the administration is doing.
Do not play into the Administration’s hands. They are looking for any excuse, any pretext. Stay peaceful.
This is a difficult time for our city. As we recover from an unprecedented natural disaster, many in our community are feeling fear following recent federal immigration enforcement actions across Los Angeles County.
Reports of unrest outside the city, including in Paramount, are deeply concerning. We’ve been in direct contact with officials in Washington, D.C., and are working closely with law enforcement to find the best path forward.
Everyone has the right to peacefully protest, but let me be clear: violence and destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable.
Thousands of gallons of water are being dropped to fight the blaze in the #PalisadesFire.
First responders continue to urgently respond and contain LA fires.
The deployment of the military against American cities is disgusting, wrong and illegal.
They tried it in Los Angeles but we stood strong. I know Chicago will stand strong too.
They cannot win if we stay united.
The California National Guard is being deployed to Los Angeles overnight to support our local response to maintain peace and safety on the streets of our city.
