Didn't expect this post to blow up the way it did but I want to highlight some of the interesting repeating comments.
1. A lot of people think this "drive per mile" fee is only for EVs and are more than happy to have it implemented. I hate to break it to you, but this would apply to all motor vehicles including gas cars.
2. It is scary how many people are ok with charging people more to drive to "improve the roads". If you think this will improve the roads, I have some beach front property here in Vegas to sell you.
3. A lot of people think EVs wear out the roads more because they are heavier, but apparently these people have never heard of semi trucks or school buses.
4."EV charging should be taxed and at a much higher rate than gas since they are worse for the environment." I would like to see data on this please.
5. "EVs are bad because they contain Cobalt that is mined by child labor in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)." I can't speak for other makers, but Teslas contain no conflict minerals and they constantly screen their suppliers to ensure compliance. I find this comment interesting because a lot of people don't realize it is highly likely the phone or laptop they used to type this comment most likely contains cobalt that was mined in the DRC.
Gas is so expensive in California so many are switching to EVs so they aren’t collecting as much money from gas so they’re thinking of charging $.03 per mile to drive your vehicle.
