A suspect wanted in connection to a homicide in Berlin, was spotted by members of State Police on I-495N. A preliminary investigation found the suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The active public safety situation on I-495 has concluded and all lanes of traffic are now open in both directions.

Lanes remain shut down on 495 North in Lowell as a law enforcement investigation continues. The southbound side of 495 has now reopened.

The Massachusetts State Police are asking the public to avoid 495 in Lowell, as there is an ongoing law enforcement investigation that has closed both sides of the highway in that area.  We will update as we have more information.
