The game is a full adventure directly based on how it looked during its brief appearance in The Simpsons (as a short joke), but expanded here to be a real game with fleshed out mechanics, multiple stages, boss fights, and a huge quantity of secrets for extra replayability

Note to game developers - you CANNOT use a giant scorpion as a final boss, that's more an early to mid game choice. The final boss has gotta be a giant demon, cursed god, or Giger alien, c'mon now guys...

Unfortunantly I've been temporarily banned! Due to the nudity in the trailers to the Peter Greenaway movies I was showing to introduce the story behind the Taiwanese DOS RPG inspired by Prospero's Books. I will be back as soon as possible to continue playing the game!

The 90's models of the Taiwanese electronic dictionary "Invincible" by Iventec Besta are easily the coolest old format for handheld videogames I've come across. Dozens of games were released for these things in Taiwan. Here is Romance of the Three Kingdoms III from 1995:

No stream for a couple of days. Playing this many Metroidvanias in the space of 1 and a half weeks had turned me into a mutant and when I try sleep I am constantly getting half woken up with images of Metroidvania maps in my head and trying to fill in squares in the map

As expected my symptoms got substantially worse after the last stream and now I'm barely able to talk and have massive headaches and whatnot, I'm fine but will need some time to recover. Until then I will be under dozens of blankets while playing Tropico 2 in the dark.

The frightening cover art to one my favourite games, ZETA, was done by Yasufumi Fujii, who was born in 1949 and was a prolific sci-fi illustrator in the 80s. These days he almost exclusively paints dinosaurs due to his long passion for paleontology.

This game is called KING OF BEAST. You are a barbarian and fight other barbarians in a tournament. There isn't a single woman in the game. The gameplay is hard and stiff.

It's not just Japan that went hard on the Giger stuff in old videogames, but Amiga devs in Europe had their share as well! Pictured here is Carcharodon, Shadow of the Beast and Turrican 3. Carcharodon in particular is one of my absolute favourites for Giger inspired pixel art
