This is the real time situation on Alexander Isak. The player has told his agent that Liverpool would be his dream move & if @NUFC are willing to sell then he love to go on good terms. The player hasn’t ruled out forcing the move this summer. Hugo Ekitike has been told, he will #NUFC number one striker long term. Everyone at #NUFC has accepted that Alexander Isak will leave the club in near future but the biggest question is.. Will @LFC break the bank for him this summer? £130m this summer £90m next summer Hold on to your hats… it’s about to takeoff.

I’ve just seen the foul by Konate on Barnes in the second half again. We didn’t have any replays in the press box. Erm, well, it was a clear shove with arm, wasn’t shoulder to shoulder and it was in his back. That’s a second yellow card. Referee didn’t even give the foul. Interesting…

Early days, but Sir Keir Starmer made himself an international statesman on his visit to the White House. A leader and a diplomat. A serious Prime Minister rather than a social media clickbait merchant. Pulled off something we haven’t seen since Blair and Bush in terms of cementing special relationship with USA. It won’t be universally popular. He will be attacked by left and right, but he’s used to that. Doesn’t seem to bother him. What he’s done is look after the national interest and that’s all you want to see from your PM.

I've been fortunate to witness some magical moments in football but Scotland's win over Denmark this evening is one of the best night's I've experienced as a football journalist. Incredible story, the drama, the quality of the goals. The noise, the celebrations. Just brilliant. It was once suggested in the classic line from Trainspotting that it "is ***** being Scottish." Alexander Isak’s agent has failed him so badly. I don’t condone Isak’s behaviour in the slightest, but he was told the move to Liverpool would happen even though they are unwilling to match valuation and all had to do was behave badly to force it through. He’s now got a player who has alienated a fan base, tarnished his reputation within football forever who is probably not going to get the move he was told was his to make. He signed a six year contract with no release clause. His agent negotiated that. Trying to force your way out with three years left on that deal was always going to be a very risky road to go down but he did it anyway. Isak might still end up at Liverpool but the chances are fading rapidly and have been for weeks now. How he repairs the damage remains to be seen but he will play next season regardless. The sooner he realises the terrible mistake he has made and apologies the better. Play well, score goals, he will get a huge move next summer if that’s what he wants #nufc

As a high ranking Liverpool official said this summer, if you want to know what is really happening at Newcastle United read Luke Edwards in the Telegraph. I was flattered. I only ever report what I’m told and learn. I was wrong to say that Alexander Isak would not be sold this summer. But that was my information at the time. It was steadfast. But things change, situations alter, people move in a different direction and I have to try and keep up with them. When the time came, I broke the exclusive story that Newcastle had agreed a £130m deal to sell Isak to Liverpool. Forget the rest who pretend they did, they didn’t. Yes this is a boast post. It has been a long, hard summer. I’ve had to deal with a major family trauma, a major tournament with England women’s team. And I’ve had to keep track of the transfer saga of the decade. To do this job is to commit to it. I’ve spent more time on the phone this summer, talking to people, messaging people, to try and do what I do best. I love what I do but it’s not easy. My wife joked that I gave my family four days of our two week summer holiday. Four days when I wasn’t on the phone dealing with Newcastle United matters. And talking about Alexander bloody Isak. So yes, you can send me tweets about what I said earlier in the summer, but at the time everything was as it was told to me. You can call me names, I don’t care, it makes me smile most of the time. I’m wired differently to most. But when push came to shove, when the pressure was on, every single moment was worth it when I exclusively revealed that Isak was heading to Liverpool for £130m. That is the job I do. I don’t rip off other people’s information and pretend it’s my own, I don’t pretend I know what is happening. I don’t conjure up tweets out of thin air for engagement and profit on here, telling people what they want to hear. I’m not paid by agents to leak stories, I report. You can be wrong, but in the end, when you get a story 100% right, it’s all worth it. Sorry for the self indulgence, but this is a love letter to all the newspaper journalists out there who do what I do every single day and are subjected to the abuse that comes with it on here every single day. Keep smiling, we watch football for a living. Nothing better than that xx

Newcastle will not sign players they don’t really want to replace Isak. Been the same all summer. Had they got Ekitike or Sesko and Liverpool bid £150m, maybe he could have gone. That is quite simply a sensational come back from Newcastle United. One of the best I’ve seen. This team never ever gives up and I hope the people who were starting to turn on Eddie Howe at half time are chewing on some humble pie. Injuries continue to blight this season but they keep going and there were two brilliant goals from Harvey Barnes to win it #NUFC

Newcastle’s owners set out their position at the start of the summer. And I will stress again, the owners came up with this plan. The asking price for Alexander Isak was set at such a high level, we are talking in excess of £150m, that it was designed to send the message he wasn’t for sale. This may sound contradictory, but this is PIF’s view. We don’t need to sell, we don’t have to sell and we will not sell. Unless someone pays ridiculous money well above market value. It has not changed for months. If they alter that stance now it will have made everything up to this point a charade. They will have buckled. I have been told that will not happen since March this year. Again in May and again in June and July. It is still the owner’s position on August 24th. Had they signed Ekitike or Sesko I think it might have changed but they didn’t. Howe has repeatedly said for more than a week they are trying to sign one striker now. A replacement for Callum Wilson. Eight more days… #nufc

When everybody else loses their head, Rafa Benitez stays calm. He is the perfect manager for #nufc and nobody should under estimate what a wonderful job he has done this season.
