Statement from Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton Today’s Supreme Court ruling is in line with over 150 years of precedent — citizenship is a right granted to every person born in this country. It is my hope that this ruling puts an end to the flagrant efforts aimed at tearing down the Constitution. Emma Lazarus famously wrote, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”  That is the promise of this country — that people can come here in search of opportunity, and by investing their time, energy, and love to this country, America invests back in you. This is yet another attempt by Donald Trump to divide Americans and force us into an “us versus them” mentality. However, we will not allow him to separate us from our inalienable rights and the essence of the United States.
