You know what I'm looking forward to with our 71 new Lib Dem MPs?
Them getting to have a break.
Not needing every MP to shadow five portfolios, having no time to just be a constituency MP. We can have backbenchers now.
We don't need to lean on peers. Our MPs with smaller majorities don't need to take on a government brief, they can just work at being good community champions and winning their seats again in five years. That's not happened for a long time.
Lib Dems' short money - rough rough maths based on last parliaments' allocations and current vote totals on BBC.
Our short money just went from £1.02m to £2.27m
We've been in survival mode since coalition. You can feel that tension run through the party. One wrong move, oblivion. We have some breathing room now. We're not in recovery mode.
Well, my election night is sorted. 83 seats where any of the 13 MRPs has the Lib Dems in contention, going right through the night - with the Tory majorities we're looking at taking down. #GeneralElection2024

Dear every member of the Liberal Democrats
Your email is probably on its way. We literally did this a year ago, have you all forgotten that 100,000 emails take time to process?
Chill.
Why are the Greens on here insisting people don't understand AMS?
I've not seen anyone calling for a by-election, we know that's *not how it works*, but Berry deserves being called out for being utterly disrespectful to two electorates in London and Brighton.
Just a reminder that the Lib Dems had a wildly successful conference, with no major outages, and some of the largest votes ever taken and the Tories cant get a glorified Second Life webinar working
Queen to give @nick_clegg - liberal, former Deputy Prime Minister, pro-European - a knighthood while snubbing Farage - right-wing, failed parliamentary candidate and Brexiter.
Excellent trolling.

@Wera_Hobhouse is a great asset to the #LibDems, but someone born Wera Benedicta von Reden in
Hanover is never going to be voted British Prime Minister. Which potential leaders became MPs in 2017 (untainted by the coalition years, with experience) and are not MPs in Scotland?
I know a lot of social media professionals are probably on furlough right now, could some of you do some training for local police social media people on how not to be creepy?
What are the Lib Dems for? What are their convictions? What do they want to achieve? It's extraordinary that right now, in the middle of a sustained assault against liberal values, Davey is unable to answer those questions convincingly.
Some people think that voting in a safe seat is a wasted vote.
No. Your vote has value. Exactly 17.65 pence as it happens.
Opposition parties get £35.50 for every 200 votes they get. Or did last Parl.
See! You do have value. A whole £0.17 of value.
I literally gasped hearing this speaker at #LDConf talking of growing up in poverty, and being given a literal big yellow badge saying "Free School Meals" at school - just feels designed to make people targets for bullying
The last time the Lib Dems or Liberals ran an election campaign with no losses was 1955 when we held all six seats won in 1951. Clement Davis was leader. Every single other election campaign we've lost at least one MP.
We won every held seat last night and every existing MP.
Without expressing a vibe due to the day job you've got to respect the way the Lib Dem obsession with designing better leaflets has extended to the absolute leaflet arms race going on around today’s #LDConf housing targets motion. Had enough leaflets to win a council by-election!
This truly is. When Trump won in 2016, he hadn't had four years of Obama suppressing votes, gerrymandering, and lying through his teeth to discredit the process.
Biden and Harries had all that, and still won.

So Ed's campaign has misused data from the last campaign (where he lost badly), and had canvassers mislead members over who they were phoning from.
And now HQ & the RO has put out an official statement saying a hustings that Ed was rejecting chairs for...was Laylas fault?
I am appalled that the Party today has released a statement on the RA hustings that attempts to cast blame upon @LaylaMoran for the hustings not happening, when the reality was that Layla's team had no choice when @EdwardJDavey's team were delaying until the very last minute.
This does *really* anger me - why are MPs not wearing masks? Why are Johnson and Starmer not doing all their photo ops in masks? Why are they not being rolemodels?
Good on Wera!
That's a wrap on Westminster for this week!
Excited to get back to Bath and have a busy day of meetings with constituents planned tomorrow.
Still surprised by how few MPs are using face coverings when in Parliament - it is not about protecting yourself but protecting others. 😷
Side note - non Lib Dems interacting with my sarcastic posts negatively warrants an auto-block. I dont fucking care about your take about how awful we are. Fuck off.
Good point. Legitimate concern here:
"You don't need any more food, you're already overweight"
"You don't need any chocolate, should be eating kale & spinach"
"Those frozen meals aren't healthy enough, should cook fresh"
"Kosher & Halal isn't really *essential* though is it?"
Genuine risk as the Orwellian window shifts here of health policing what ‘essential’ foods are based on a narrow idea of what people ‘ought’ to be eating - which is a big concern for people with disordered eating patterns, people with religious dietary requirements etc.

No, but this is someone I know, and like and am so fond of, and used to work with closely through bitter losses for years, just won an election? And is now going to ge to serve their community? We dont get days like this? Do we?
“I would do it all again. I stand by every single decision I made – they were absolutely the right decisions...I don’t regret the stand I took. The decision I made to leave the Labour Party, I’d do that again."
Luciana deserves a break but I'd love to campaign for her again
Next week will be my ten year anniversary of being a member of the Lib Dems.
I can't help but feel I should mark the occasion somehow, but also feel utterly unmotivated to do so.
The Lib Dems failed to make a strategic decision at the last election.
We can't make that mistake again. We need to abandon equidistance.

Finally voted in Lib Dem elections.
I'm not posting who I voted for (no one cares who I am, and also, I voted as much against some people as for some people and don't need the drama)
The only candidate I voted for who's written books on how to win elections was Candy Piercy.
There is zero clear evidence on the effectiveness of masks. The government has said we don't need to wear them. Now we're told we must. And so the shops fall silent, our high streets die. All this is devastating for human relations. Column on mask Nazism thetimes.co.uk/article/light…

Excellent news that Kishan Devani the candidate for Mongomeryshire will be winning back Montgomeryshire by campaigning hard in Montgomeryshire for the people of Montgomeryshire.
Montgomeryshire.
Fantastic full page coverage in the @CountyTimes on Why @Kishan_Devani the @LibDems Parliamentary Candidate for Montgomeryshire will be the best candidate & why he will put the people of Montgomeryshire first in his quest to win back Montgomeryshire from the #Tories.
You, tweeting: "remember, you dont need your polling card to vote"
Me: You bloody should, how can I do proper telling, everyone should have to have their card or recite their number by memory.
I remember when everyone used to have a card, till you fuckers reminded them.
Hi candidates for leader of my party
@EdwardJDavey@Wera_Hobhouse@LaylaMoran
There has been a strong reaction to this seeming endorsement of Lord Rennard by a local party
Can you confirm whether or not you would give him a platform as leader of the party?
We need to be really careful here. Making a trip only for an Easter egg is clearly against the rules. But picking one up with the bigger shop for the kids? The Government needs to give sharper guidance for LAs and Police on the application of the new laws. bbc.co.uk/news/business-5209…
From the mind of @danschmschmschm, via the tweets of @miss_s_b, to the printing presses of @Awkward__Squad - eventually to me.

End of an era - there cant be many figures more important in Welsh politics over two decades than Kirsty
#DiolchKirsty#ThankYouKirsty for all your service to Brecon, Wales and the party, and for the chance to work with you, from a former bag carrier
After much reflection, I have decided not to stand as as a candidate in the next election. There is of course sadness in making this decision, but also a strong sense of pride. Above all else, I'd like to thank the people of B&R for their support over the last 2 decades.
Narrowly held their deposit but this is the lowest percentage result for Labour ever in Brecon, Westminster or Assembly.
And I mean ever. Since the seat was created in 1918 and Labour got 30% in 1922. Labour have never got 5% before.
Labour takes Bolton and Undercliffe from Lib Dem/Independant Councillor David Ward.
Si Cunningham is the new Labour Councillor for the ward.

And I think we overuse that technology as well?
Also, facial recognition has extra issues, such as far higher chances of just mistaking BAME people and women. It doesnt even work right.
Listen @Twitter sometimes the headline tells me everything I need to know
ALT Screenshot is of Twitter telling us to read the full article and saying headlines dont tell the full story. The story's headline is Nintendo Confirms Dry Bones is Uncircumcised for some reason.
Looking forward to Change UK MPs trying to join the Lib Dems and having to deal with the local party's membership officer, who may just decide to reject their membership application.
"People who know how to win are backing Ed"
Yet apparently none of them know how to run a campaign without misusing data lists or misleading our party members
Interesting point
"Colston died in 1721... The statue of him that still stands in the centre of Bristol was erected in 1895"
Some clear parallels with the Confederate statues erected long after the Confederacy existed, designed to intimidate the population

It astonishes me that some landlords seem to view their tenants as ATMs, there solely to dispense the landlord's income, and can't fathom that their tenants are also eating down their savings, floating on credit cards, cancelling plans, and controlling spending right now.

I've seen a lot of takes like this recently
1) Labour aren't interested in pacts. They want to just annexe the Lib Dems & Greens.
2) Corbyn is an anti-semite. Unless Labour take actions to break down their institutional racism, no deals. Doubt a new leader will care.
