Making good on my promise to engage more on social media! Look for daily posts or videos breaking down these NBA playoffs! Best time of the year. Let’s do it 👍🏀
Different vibe tonight from Lakers. @warriors were extremely sharp and pushed their pace at the Lakers all night but LA didn’t commit to their defensive detail and pressure tonight. @StephenCurry30 actually just made another statement on his greatness by playing more of a traditional PG role and dominating with his handle and passing
As I begin a new chapter at @ESPN, I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who reached out w/ support either directly or through social media 👏🏻
It all gets started Wed night with a doubleheader on ESPN. I’ll be on the call for Suns/Clippers. See u there!
I hope we never stop appreciating the greatness and skill of @StephenCurry30 If the @warriors win this series that performance last night will go down as the most significant of Curry’s career. The degree of difficulty under pressure was truly amazing
Sitting here trying to decipher this @dallasmavs@Timberwolves series. This morning on @GetUpESPN I was asked who SHOULD be the favorite to win it all and I said Wolves. Bc they have earned the right to be viewed that way. BUT… I wasn’t asked who I BELIEVE wins this WCF SERIES. And my answer to that is… DALLAS.
The sight of Bulls fans booing the mention of the late Jerry Krause was disgusting. I hope you are proud of yourselves for making his widow that visibly shaken.
He was a huge part of the winning that went on in the 90s. Regardless of your reasoning for that reaction, it was classless and callous. Certain moments require class and empathy. That was one of them. You blew it.
Nothing left to say other that what a genuine appreciation I have for the style of play and skill that @StephenCurry30 and the @warriors have given us the past 8 years. Fitting end to this quest to get back to the top. And I have a feeling…they aren’t done.
Damn. Remember the days when bball was just about goin up and the down the floor with flow? And trying to outplay your opponent? All these theatrics and constantly trying to draw fouls destroys the fun that goes with seeing great basketball.
Love the story of @nuggets title run. Great chemistry. Key contributions from different guys every night. Genuine love for each other. Team first ALWAYS. And a superstar being as great as the moment required. Jokic was 12-16 on a night the rest of the participants in the game shot 35%. Think about that
I just don’t agree with the flagrant 2 against @Money23Green - the use of the term “wind up” to describe his swipe down at the ball/arm is a bit exaggerated. The jersey grab was deserving of a flagrant 1. The face contact was minimal and unintentional. Just my opinion
Grateful for the time to sit down with Doc Rivers re: Bucks’ outlook & to get into the film room to discuss some of their actions.
I spoke with every NBA head coach and we will be giving you all of those convos. Great stuff
If every NBA player could only submit a tape of one full quarter from any game in their career as a testament to their greatness, Nikola Jokic would be wise to submit the 3rd quarter from last night. Damn near basketball perfection. #MVPPerformance
These Coaches Corner segments posted by @ESPNNBA are just a sample from longer conversations with each coach. These clips focus on the film we went over. Longer versions will all be seen on @NBATV as part of shows dedicated to Coaches Corner segments. A lot more coming soon.
Nothing like being on the set for live TV when an earthquake hits! Wild day in the LA studio with @malika_andrews for NBA Today. Hopefully everyone is safe🙏 I’m sure Californians are used to this but very different for an East Coast guy like myself
apologies to @MiamiHEAT for thinking @sixers would fight. I feel bad for @JoelEmbiid. His season was derailed by a PG who quit on him last summer & a new PG who failed him when he needed him most. @TyreseMaxey is special. Give him the damn ball and move on from @JHarden13 asap
Hey hoop heads… I sat down with NBA Championship winning coaches talk about their teams, their journey, and their philosophies. We also go into the film room with each guy. Hope you all enjoy it. Today on NBATV at 3pm est. Check it out!
Yes I thought Boston would win tonight. And there are zero excuses. @MiamiHEAT had a bunch of guys with nerve tonight. @celtics wilted under the pressure. I shoulda put more weight on the best coach in the league. Congrats coach Spo and and the Heat organization. That was impressive as hell
Luka was big in the 4th quarter and looked fresher and livelier than he has late game in these playoff games for the most part. Dallas has two elite closers if it’s tight late. And both stars were excellent defensively in the big spots.
At one point Jokic scored in the post on three consecutive chances against three different 7 footers (the DPOY, the 6th man of the year, and an All Star).
I mean…. Damn 😂 that’s 21+ feet of centers down there.
My take on the hostilities tonight bw @nyknicks and @memgrizz. What the hell was @CJC9BOSS thinking? Seriously. And if someone says “play til the final buzzer” then I know they have never played 🏀 at any level. 18 point lead? :50 left? Stealing the inbounds? Shooting a 3? 😂😂
My opinion on Steph Curry is that he was Top 10 before the Olympics. But some of you don’t acknowledge that he has not been unquestionably in everyone’s Top 10. That’s why it’s an OPINION. There is no right answer. And I’m saying a moment like he just had should reduce significantly the number of people who had him outside the top 10.
It’s not over but I picked @Bucks to win in 6 bc I have said repeatedly… I’m betting on the greatness of @Giannis_An34 & once again he showed he’s got the mental and physical toughness that should not be doubted. And @Jrue_Holiday11 was sensational.
Now that the @nyknicks season is over, let’s appreciate their year. They are relevant again. They have a star PG. The Garden is electric. Now they must prioritize shooters this off season. Hell of a year. Let’s see if they can add pieces to take the next step.
Loved this convo with Steve Kerr talking about their “5 Out” or Split action that you see so often for the Warriors. I believe GS is going to be a major factor in the West. Hope you enjoy this one.
Sat down with Mile Brown, the new head coach of the New York Knicks to discuss the expectations on this team, utilizing the talents of Jalen Brunson, KAT, etc… Great convo. Check it out on Coaches Corner. Enjoy! @ESPNNBA@NBATV
I’m not sure we fully appreciate the impact of Eric Spoelstra on every team he coaches. They are so well prepared. Connected. And always ready for the big moments. This @MiamiHEAT team just fights you. All night.
My take on LBJ injury- I dont care HOW it got out. Say it b4 game 2 or keep it quiet forever. No one wants to see the “soft cast” after the series. not doubting it happened. Not doubting it’s hurt. Only if ur trying to downplay it then downplay it FOREVER. Aka never mention it
We all have our own guys who are not up for debate. Mine are MJ, Lebron, Kareem, Wilt, Magic, and Russell. Then there is debate around Curry, Oscar, Bird, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq. There are 12 names listed here and they all can’t be in every top 10. It’s called MATH. Steph makes mine.
Wry are people in the media even raising the notion that the NBA Finals need @Lakers and @celtics ? If you love watching great basketball you are going to be really entertained with @nuggets & @MiamiHEAT
Wild doesn’t come close to describing the end of that game. The last play was set up because Derrick White was unguarded as the inbound passer. Meaning he had a free run to the rim on Smart’s shot. And the ball has to bounce exactly that way to give him a chance at a tip.
Well here we are. 48 minutes away. Nothing like this environment and nothing like breaking it down with one of the best to ever do it. See you post game with @notthefakeSVP
Alright ya’ll here we go. We’ve got younger stars on the threshold of winning their first ring, two really good defenses, and hopefully some 4th quarter drama. 8:30pm can’t get here soon enough. I’ll see you guys on @notthefakeSVP right after the game breaking down what happened
Not even close to what I said. Nah I never said a word about any other player besides Kuminga. They don’t believe in him. It’s obvious. And the only way to know if he is more than this is to get a fresh look somewhere else. That’s all I said
Another factor was Kyrie’s offensive performance in the 1st half. Minnesota was defending Dallas pretty well OTHER than Kyrie. He was more aggressive than he has been in 1st halves lately. Without his outburst they are prob down 12-15 at half.
Cannot believe what I just saw take place in MSG. A lot to unwrap tomorrow. Knicks heart. Questionable officiating. Embiid’s injury. Maxey’s greatness. Hartenstein’s 4th quarter. Wild finish. Wow.
See you all tomorrow. @GetUpESPN@FirstTake@SportsCenter
I’ll be on all day getting into these playoffs. Best time of the year
a few thoughts on a great WCF game 1. @dallasmavs made defending the paint a priority at the expense of giving up a lot of good looks from 3. @Timberwolves were hot in the 1st half but 49 3pt attempts are too many. And Ant took 12 of them in 16 FGA. That’s a bad ratio for him
Ultimately this is the best case scenario for the Sixers. They don’t have to guarantee Harden more years at a big number & they don’t lose him without compensation.
Very sorry to hear of the passing of former UNC star and my Nuggets’ teammate Joe Wolf. He brought great positivity and professionalism every single day. Just a great dude. We will be praying for his family and friends as they cope with a heartbreaking loss. RIP 🙏
When I started saying that @TyreseMaxey was the co-star @JoelEmbiid needs , last night was the epitome of that statement.
Not only was he incredibly productive and clutch, he was letting Embiid know that he wasn’t out there alone. This dude embraces the big stage. #unfazed
So excited to be paired with @Adam_Mares on a show dedicated to serious NBA content! This is going to be fun breaking down games, players, teams, and everything going on in the league! Check this out!
I know you aren’t talking about me 😂😂 I have been raving about what the Nuggets have done. They improved significantly. They are arguably the 2nd best team in the West now.
What a tragic week for our NBA family. We now mourn the loss of Dikembe Mutombo. I had the opportunity to compete against him for a decade and his impact on the court was immeasurable. But his lasting legacy will always be as a man and a humanitarian. RIP to one of the greats 🙏
It’s that time again!! Check out @LeBatardShow tomorrow at noon est as we discuss the Halloween horror we turn casa de Legler into for all the little trick or treaters! A few new additions this year! We may even discuss some NBA but no promises! 👻🤡 #halloween2019
Had an opportunity to sit down with Eastern Conference champion @Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle. We looked at a set designed for Ben Mathurin, a guy who can possibly earn a starting position as Indy embarks on a season without Tyrese Haliburton. Check it out.
Gotta give @JHarden13 all the credit in the world. In a tough spot 0-2 and @JoelEmbiid not 100% he has played his best two games of the playoffs when the @sixers had to have it. I didn’t think he had enough juice to be this good offensively again. Gotta give him his props
Two things about @nuggets have stood out the entire post season as the stakes have been raised
1. Their pace (make or miss) just wears people out. Everyone runs. The ball advances. It leads to secondary break points .
2. The passing of Jokic puts pressure on teams to be perfect in their defensive communication.
Very sad to hear of the passing of Bill Walton. I admired him as one of the great big men to ever play the game. And I was honored to work next to him in the studio at ESPN. He was uplifting, positive, and fascinating. My thoughts are with his family. Rest peacefully, Bill 🙏
The last series feels like Lakers are in control now but the margins are narrow. The last question to be answered will be this: Are the @warriors struggles end of game fixable? Can it be cleaned up or is it a result of the @Lakers defense being too much for them to generate clean looks at key moments. Key for Lakers- do not let Klay go off. They have him stifled right now. Must keep that dude where he is or this series could turn completely
Ultimately @nuggets clearly a better team. Deeper in terms of weapons. And have a player who beats you his scoring, passing, rebounding and mind. Jokic making ridiculous stat lines seem ordinary. Please Appreciate what this guy is doing right now
I think the Kleber injury is important for Dallas to space the floor against Gobert. Not exactly sure when/if we will see him so let’s see Dallas’ approach to Gobert defensively.
Jerry West is one of those rare figures in sports whose greatness resonates with virtually everyone. You don’t have to be a Lakers fan to understand the significance of his impact on the game. Whenever I saw him I was aware I was in the presence of a legendary figure. RIP LOGO 🙏🏀
Between playing and analyzing I’ve been tied to the NBA for 29 years and thought I had seen just about everything a shooter can do. BUT.. this dude @StephenCurry30 continues to amaze and raise the bar. Add a chapter to that book. #coldblooded
About 2.5 hrs from Game 7 in OKC. I’m as uncertain about this game as any I’ve seen. So many variables each way. Who will be the X factor? Do OKC’s stars outshine Indy’s? Can Pacers take care of the ball? Who will have bigger impact- TJ or Caruso? Cannot wait to break it down
I’ll put it clearly. If the Bucks lose this game, Giannis should return both MVP trophies, Budenholzer should return COY awards, and the NBA should contract to 29 teams. That is all
Michael Malone is refreshing in a profession where you hear a lot of cliches and superficial answers, he always says something insightful and thought provoking. Very happy he will get a shot on the biggest stage.
The @Pacers were at their best when the situation required it. Eventually that high powered offense was too much for the @nyknicks to control. Now on to the Finals and a fascinating matchup between Indy’s offense and OKC’s league best defense. See you there
All I can say is WOW! This @Commanders franchise that I have loved my entire life is BACK! We waited a long time to be relevant again. Feels amazing. My mother loved this team more than anyone I have ever known. She would have turned 90 today. What a bday present!! #HTTC
Finally, for Minny, they didn’t play to their strength often enough and I expect a massive adjustment from Anthony Edwards in terms of rim attacks. They will also have to mix up what they show Luka on the other end. Fun game to watch. Race to 4 and Dallas chalks one up.
Flat out one of the best things I’ve seen in sports watching @ovi8 hoist the Stanley Cup and take that lap! Speechless. A player this great deserves this moment
My hits with @notthefakeSVP are some of the most important segments I do. Allows me to break down games right after they end and Scott is as good at what he does as anyone in this industry. I know it’s a little late on East Coast at times, but that’s the nature of playoff post game analysis.
There is no denying that @JoelEmbiid is a massive talent on both ends who, at times, has proven to be unstoppable. So the potential for a title lies within him. It’s possible a new voice can get that last bit of potential out of him to help him in big spots?
The most overused and lazy description of the NBA is “make or miss league”. That statement implies coaching and talent don’t matter. It’s a way to deflect accountability. Better coaching/talent leads to improved shot quality and results.
For those people expecting to see the ESPN2 alt cast called InsightCast tonight during WCF Game 5, we were only scheduled to do games 1-4. Hope people enjoyed it.
However, I’ll be breaking down game 5 on @notthefakeSVP after the game. Enjoy the game. See you later tonight
Well I know one thing… he damn sure never attacked YOU bc he never made it to your local YMCA for those nightly runs 🤣🤣 keep watching and maybe you can learn something. Enjoy the playoffs
Okay game was in the ECF was incredibly entertaining. Now on to the WCF. I can’t wait for this series tonight!
Best two defenses left playing and a lot of superstar offensive talent.
The next level for Jokic and the Nuggets could be taking on a legit powerhouse title contender in the Finals and beating them. Imagine how great an NBA Finals would be next year between @nuggets and a healthy @Bucks and another two time MVP and NBA champion in @Giannis_An34
A snippet of the convo I had with Eric Spoelstra. Another from the select group of current coaches who have won NBA Titles. And one of the brightest minds in the game. Enjoy. @ESPNNBA@NBATV
All props to @Lakers for a dominant performance last night and in the series. Too big. Too physical. And great contributions from the supporting cast. Congrats to Darvin Ham. One of the best dudes in the business. The WCF are going to be fascinating.
Very impressive tone set by @celtics tonight. Both ends. Dribble penetration to the rim at will plus three point shooting out of that penetration. On the other end C’s were so active in the lane protecting the rim. Too many guys on Dallas looked uncomfortable.

In the ECF, I believe @Pacers have the type of offense that can be effective in this series. They are going to give @celtics all they can handle, especially without Porzingis. It Should be a higher scoring type of series with Boston ultimately winning it in 6 or 7 games.
The recent trend of NBA stars bouncing around trying to mesh together quickly to win a title will potentially help the @nuggets run this back for the foreseeable future. No one can match their combination of top talent combined with continuity.
Clearly the Heat can and will shoot better than they did tonight. But…Denver wasn’t great offensively. They were very good in the 1st half and below average in the 2nd. Ultimately Jokic and Murray are too lethal of a combination to be contained to the extent you need to win 4 games. A challenge for Miami that’s just requires more fire power
Can’t process the shocking and devastating loss of @kobebryant. One of the greatest competitors and most influential players in history. Met him when he was 15 yr old kid in a gym with NBA players. Tragic loss of his daughter Gianna and three others as well. Heartbreaking 🙏😥
Getting love tonight for my touchscreen analysis. Much appreciated! Thanks to @notthefakeSVP and @SportsCenter for the platform. Most nights I take 15-20 pages of notes so I can use the exact plays to tell the “story” and teach. Looking forward to WCF Game 7 to do it again!
It’s that time folks! Check out @LeBatardShow tomorrow at 10:30est for our annual Halloween segment! At a time when so much is so different in our lives, we are trying to keep up our enthusiasm for our favorite time of the year!! Hope to have some fun with it 🎃💀🤡
Alright hoop heads, my thoughts on the 4 series underway. @MiamiHEAT are too cohesive offensively and too connected defensively for a Knicks team that doesn’t have quite enough to contend. Seems like the Knicks are frustrated by the Heat answering every run. They aren’t the most entertaining team, but they put on bball clinics every night.
The most intriguing game of the post-season is about to take place tonight in Minnesota. Looking forward to seeing the response @nuggets have for this @Timberwolves defensive pressure.
Excited to be on the call on @espn with @MarkJonesESPN and @Angel_Gray1 8:30cst
People always ask “did a team give it away or did a team take it?
you can’t have one without the other. Indy clearly failed on a basic concept: inbounding the ball against pressure, But Boston took advantage with great execution and big time shot making.
Cannot overstate what @jaytatum0 pulled off tonight. A lot of guys aren’t hunting shots with the game on the line on a night virtually nothing has gone right offensively. He had a lot of help that kept the Celts in the game but he trusted his talent when his team needed it to survive.
I’m so happy the season is underway… we have a lot to discuss! I’ll have some things to say this afternoon regarding my new role at @ESPNNBA which begins TONIGHT. But before that, check us out @ALLCITY_NBA at 12pm to go over last night’s games and set up a great slate tonight
This @okcthunder crowd was as loud as any environment I saw all season. OKC was the best team all yr and they used their recipe tonight. Convert TOs into pts during that 3rd qtr. On the other hand, Indy &Ty Haliburton deserved better than to suffer that injury. Sickening.
For young players, if you are trying to improve your shot fake (it’s important) take a look at Jokic tonight. The pace on his upward motion with the ball is exactly the same whether he’s shooting it or showing it. It makes him quicker as a driver bc defenders react to it regularly
Perk hate to break the news but I said it first back in January and personally never heard you say since then brother! But if you did, congrats bc you got it right! Been doin this 20 years @ESPNNBA and never borrowed a take from anyone. I’m glad we agree though!
Give Boston all the credit for taking advantage of that turnover late in regulation. Brown forces OT and then Tatum biggest shot of the game in OT. This is going to be hard to recover from for Indy. Tough enough to get 4 wins against this team without giving one away late.
I picked @PelicansNBA to win tonight- missed this one- but it took the unexpected return of Devon Booker, a perfect game from CP3 and critical foul trouble for @CJMcCollum in order for the @Suns to win a game that went to the wire. Bright future for the Pels. Suns complete step 1
But let me ask you, knowing how much you care about the game, what would you have done if you were on the court and the situations reversed?? Cmon man you know you would have gotten heated
