Crews responded to a report of an air conditioner fire on the 200 block of Callaway Road. E8 arrived to find flames on the second floor balcony of a three-story apartment building, extending into the unit. A quick attack knock down the fire, Preventing significant damage. Crews completed, overhaul, ventilation, and air monitoring of adjacent units. No injuries were reported. One cat was safely rescued and reunited with its owner. 🚒🐈 With the summer heat, air conditioners are working overtime. Help prevent fires by unplugging units directly into a wall unit outlet, keeping filters, clean, avoiding overloading, extension, cords, and turning the unit off if you notice smoke, burning, smells, or unusual noises. We are deeply saddened by the line-of-duty death of Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal. He courageously lost his life protecting his community. This is a heartbreaking and powerful reminder that, perhaps now more than ever, police officers continue to face real danger in service to others, and that their families, colleagues, and communities carry the weight of that sacrifice. Our thoughts are with Constable Benredouane’s family, loved ones, and all members of the @SPVM. We are also thinking of his injured colleague who remains in hospital, the uninvolved citizen who tragically lost their life, and everyone impacted by this devastating incident. Crews responded reports of smoke and flames visible from a balcony on the 100 block of Kent Street. Firefighters located and quickly contained a fire on the balcony and were able to safely rescue the occupant. The patient was transferred to care of our partners in EMS and later transported to hospital for possible smoke inhalation. All hot spots were extinguished and all smoke was cleared from the apartment and hallways. Smoke alarm save lives. Ensure you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home and test them monthly.>jb

Crews responded to a monitor alarm in the 1200 block of Richmond Street. Upon arrival, firefighters investigated and located smoke in the first floor hallway. The source was identified as a kitchen fire within one of the apartments. The fire originated on the stove top and extended into the cupboards. Crews quickly advanced and extinguished the fire, preventing further spread and significant damage. One occupant was assessed by EMS for smoke inhalation and minor burns, and was later released. This incident serves as an important reminder that unattended cooking remains one of the leading causes of residential fires. Always stay in the kitchen when cooking, keep combustibles items away from the stove, top, and never leave cooking unattended.>jb

Fire crews remain on scene at a motor vehicle collision involving a shopping centre in the area of Gainsborough Road and Wonderland Road North. Police responded to CF Masonville Place at approximately 1:25 p.m., today, after a noxious substance was deployed inside a retail store and items were stolen by suspects. As a precaution, a portion of the mall was evacuated. At least two employees sustained minor injuries. Members of the Middlesex-London Paramedic Services attended to assist police at the scene. The investigation into the incident is in its early stages, and additional information will be shared as appropriate. #LdnOnt
