I grew up in a military family, spending my childhood moving around from state to state as an army brat. My father, a Purple Heart recipient, served in Korea and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Although I prefer to stay focused on Kansas, to see politicians like Donald Trump — who has attacked active service members, veterans, and Gold Star families before — denigrate members of the military, their service, and their sacrifices by completely disrespecting the hallowed ground of Arlington National Cemetery for a photo opp is disgraceful.
Politicizing where our country’s bravest heroes are buried to score cheap political points is just plain wrong and unbefitting of anyone who wants to be our commander in chief.
