#LISK UPDATE# Frye hearing now underway for the accused Long Island Serial Killer suspect Rex Heuermann in Suffolk County. I’m in the courtroom with producer @AvaPittmanTV along with other members of the media and investigators. Just after court was called to order, we watched Heuermann enter the courtroom and face us in the gallery as he was led into the well of the courtroom to a seated position at the defense table. He looked out to the audience and appeared to glance at his estranged wife Asa Ellerup and their daughter Victoria who are seated in the third row. Heuermann was led out in two sets of handcuffs behind his back, his cuffs were unlocked before he took a seat. He is listening intently now to the first witness called to the stand, Kelly Harris who is an associate professor of genome sciences at University of Washington. This testimony is part of the prosecution’s efforts to get the nuclear DNA testing of evidence in the case admissible at trial. The sensitive type of testing known as genome sequencing, has never been used in a New York court of law. Prosecutors say it’s commonly used throughout forensic science, Heuermann’s defense attorney is trying to get it excluded calling the process “magic” and unproven. The information uncovered by investigators and now made public in this case is devastating. Many details were whispered about in the hometown of #VeronicaButler and #JilianKelley but were not confirmed. Now we know. Investigators were working hard to secure interviews that would lead to these arrests. We kept hearing about the an anti-government group these suspects may have been a part of called “God’s Misfits” but couldn’t confirm with law enforcement. Court records also reveal that a family member of the Twomblys disclosed that other attempts to kill Butler occurred during February of 2024 in which the suspects had planned to throw an anvil through Butler’s windshield while she was driving but she didn’t leave her house that day. These probable cause affidavits read like a horror novel. Suspects will be in court this Wednesday and @newsnation will be there.

➡️ Behind the scenes of the #LISK investigation inside the Suffolk County Crime Lab - As we continue to learn more details about this disturbing case I wanted to share some BTS video I took September 14, 2021 while filming a documentary on the story. We got a first hand look at the M-Vac System being used by investigators to pull hard to extract DNA from the crime scenes - which has allegedly linked suspect #RexHeuermann to 6 victims so far. We were given exclusive access to the lab at the time to see the machine and check out how the advanced technology is being used to test difficult samples, such as porous or rough surfaces (they used examples of ropes, rocks, and gloves ) a system they were using to re-examine previously tested items. The M-Vac is a wet-vacuum DNA collection system which uses a solution sprayed onto the surface while simultaneously being vacuumed off of the surface. It creates a “mini-hurricane” that loosens the DNA material which is transferred to the collection bottle and later concentrated onto a filter. Here is the breakdown of the “HK Planning Document” discovered by the Gilgo Beach Homicide Task Force in #RexHeuermann hard drive recovered from his basement. “HK2002-04” is believed to be used by Heuermann to be used “to methodically blueprint and plan out his kills” which have four categories with the headings of: Problems, Supplies, DS (dump sites), TRG (target). 21 years ago today #ScottPeterson was arrested for the murders of his pregnant wife #LaciPeterson & their unborn son. Last year former #Modesto Police Detective Al Brocchini shared his personal photos of the arrest with/me & said he still firmly believes they cuffed the right person responsible for the double homicides. Lawyers w/the #LAInnocenceProject along with Peterson’s family strongly disagree & continue to fight for evidence in the case to be tested and re-tested & to introduce what they claim is new evidence in the case. Peterson appeared virtually in a Redwood City courtroom for a hearing in the case this week on a motion to seal, the next appearance on DNA testing is May 29th.
