Consistency was the word I was looking for. Because the game makes the characters jumps to poses for every note (and assuming in quick succession), Keeping it simple makes it easier to read.

Also, personal preference. For beatboxing, I think it's better if it's the left one since the mouth movements are more synced to the beat, rather than the right one since it's mouth movements are delayed by one frame to do the "B" sound.
