PSA get a dashcam for your car.
My wife and I were involved in a hit-and-run road rage incident today (we’re both fine) and the police were able to track the guy down because of the @tesla dashcam.
The guy in the truck must’ve been very impatient with the traffic and decided to ram our car and push us about 100ft through the intersection before speeding off.
I’ve already ordered a dash cam for our other car.
To all the people suggesting I was driving too slow:
- There was a car in front of me. We were in traffic
- I was in the right of two left turn lanes
- His right blinker was on probably by mistake. He was turning left to get onto the freeway
Even if I was driving slow in the left lane, that still doesn’t justify ramming our car for 100ft.
Leave it to the internet to pick apart a 10 second video and blame anybody but the driver of the truck.
In honor of Fathers Day, reply with your best Dad Joke.
Couple of good ones I’ve seen:
- they don’t call it a “ram” for no reason
- he’s going to face serious RAMifications
I have about ten minutes of footage before the incident. You can clearly see in the video that we didn’t do anything that would have triggered this.
I’ll post the video when I get home. They’re on my laptop
UPDATE: Still ongoing, but the man was cited for a hit-and-run. The case is being turned over to the District Attorney for further investigation.
Apparently he was only cited with a hit-and-run because they didn't have the dash cam footage yet 🤔

I've had a few memes about @supabase recently, but in all seriousness, Supabase has been one of the single most important things to propel my career as a software engineer.

A lot of people have been asking for dash cam recommendations. My only experience with dash cams is with the Tesla, so I can't say that the following recommendations are reputable, but here are some links to some dash cams I looked at for our other car:
This one has front and rear camera. The rear camera is what saved us in the incident a few days ago.

This one also has front and rear camera and is a little cheaper. This is the one I ordered.

Cheapest one and only front camera, but I like Garmin.

Curious if anyone else has recommendations.
Over the weekend, a Utah man and his wife were rear-ended by a truck while in traffic, in what he called “a hit-and-run road rage incident.” The car's built-in cameras captured it all.

UPDATE 2: after the initial hit-and-run charge, the Lehi City Police Department is now looking at "potential charges that range anywhere from assault to felony type criminal mischief"

I just pasted a large query into the @supabase dashboard "Generate SQL with Supabase AI" tool and asked it to tell me what indexes I need to add to speed up the query. After adding the recommended indexes, the runtime went from 9.3s to 133ms 🔥
I hate the “he’s not a doctor” argument (in any circumstance). Any intelligent person, who knows how to do effective research, can study a topic, decipher reliable and unreliable sources, and come to a conclusion. It’s called science
“Semi-auto … capable of firing 15 lethal 9mm rounds with a single pull of the trigger”.
Tell me you don’t know how guns work without telling me you don’t know how guns work 🤦♂️
At a cafe in Athens writing a new article on how @Firebase opened my eyes to the cool things that databases can do, and how @supabase pushed me out of the nest and forced me to become an expert
#postgres#webdev
Before using Supabase, my knowledge of relational databases was the minimum required to do my job: put data in, take data out. Since then I’ve learned so many concepts such as
- Views
- Materialized Views
- Functions
- Row-level security
- PostGIS
- Replication
- Schemas
Supabase forced me to become a @PostgreSQL expert. This is a big one for me. By building their platform on top of Postgres made it so that at the end of the day I’m a Postgres expert, not a Firebase expert (or some other lock-down platform).
@postgis
One of the applications I built needed to render gigabytes of data in a map and be able to query that data. The capabilities of PostGIS came in clutch and I was able to build what I consider to be my greatest career achievement so far
Awesome @supabase meetup last night in Salt Lake City! Thanks everyone for coming.
Legendary talks from @tristanbob and @_TylerHillery 🔥
Also got to show @_TylerHillery how beautiful Utah is 🌲 🏔️
After having switched from @Firebase to @supabase 4 months ago I can say that Supabase is infinitely better than Firebase when comparing the Supabase products to their Firebase counterpart.
Thanks for making my dev work so much easier, @supabase
First time actually trying out the @supabase Performance Advisor and I'm blown away. Strait fire 🔥
I have a number of indexes I've been missing for years and was able to add them just now.
The incredibly unique thing about @supabase is their ability to force me to become a database expert, rather than just a supabase expert. With other platforms like Firebase, all the time and effort learning the platform is almost meaningless when you switch to a new platform.
Some of these Postgres concepts might seem like basic concepts, but to me this is a big step up. Postgres is now my my most important development tool.
Created 18 migration files today in @supabase local development. Local dev with the Supabase CLI is such a smoother process than what I used to do before Supabase
My first contribution to open source! I had wanted to contribute to open source for a while but didn’t know how to get started. Thanks @saltcod for helping me get started. Hopefully this is the first of many contributions, not just with Supabase.
Is there anyone from @supabase that is interested in coming to the Salt Lake City, Utah meetup in August? I will host you at my house and show you the cool things to do in the Salt Lake area.
Open offer. It’s free right now but will double in price tomorrow
For a while I've felt like there was a lack of @angular content for @supabase, so I decided to do something about it. Here's my in-depth example of using RxJS with Supabase Auth and Realtime to make apps smooth as butter.
#supabase#webdevdev.to/kylerummens/supabase-…
My talk from the @supabase meetup in Salt Lake city. I don't think devs talk enough about the mistakes they've made in their career. My learning experience was full of them. Enjoy!
Fast development and no roadblocks 🚧
I came from the world of Firebase where I was constantly running into roadblocks in my development. Since switching to Supabase, I have yet to run into a roadblock that wasn’t resolved simply by reading the documentation.
- how much money do you have in your bank account
- what’s your social security number
- when was the last time you went to church
- what came first, the chicken or the egg
Just created a new @angular project in v15. I love all the new features but was caught off guard by the removal of environments. I can’t seem to find any guidance from the docs on what I’m supposed to do instead. Any help @angular?
Data structures
With Supabase I’ve built a number of applications with wildly diverse data structures and Postgres handles them all. Shipping these products is what launched me into the role I currently have at the company I started at last June and tripled my income.
