A boat parade in support of @realDonaldTrump on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Thousands of boats participated as they traveled from the Kimberling City bridge to Table Rock dam. #boatparade
Well… it happened. Zachary took his first steps on the grass at Wrigley Field. @Cubs Can’t make this stuff up. It wasn’t much, but it counts. #ItsDifferentHere
Memorial Stadium, where the Fighting Illini play football and are schedule to play Nebraska on Friday, is at least partially on fire. Smoke can be seen pouring out from the the lower level on the south side of the stadium. We have a crew working to get more info.
Officially a @Cubs season ticket holder for 2020! I’ll be selling a game or two here and there so hit me up if you’re looking for a game at some point during the year.
ILL vs MICH today will be a madhouse. Friend of mine got in line to tailgate lot at 3:30am. He was still 13th in line. He’s usually 1st. Be prepared, it’ll be a wild one.
Amazing tornado video from Ryan Ideus of a tornado near Rantoul tonight. Notice the debris being picked up as the circulation reaches the ground. The condensation funnel isn't fully connected all the way from the cloud to the ground either. #cILwx@NWSLincolnIL
Anyone who got mad over us covering up the football game today on CBS, should ask the 30 people who were injured in the tornado, the hundreds with damaged homes, and the thousands who stayed safe, if football was more important than a tornado ripping apart people’s lives. #cILx
Full video of the accident scene on I-55 south of Springfield, IL near the Sangamon Montgomery county line. Horrific. Dust being kicked up by 45mph winds contributing to this awful tragedy where sadly people have lost their lives.
Pretty wild to watch this camper get tipped over and thrown into cars at Toyota of Danville after storms with winds of 70-80mph moved through. #cILwx#ILwx
This is NOT a filter or makeup. This is what my face and hair looks like after being on scene with the dirt and dust along I-55 south of Springfield, IL.
The accident scene along I-55 south of Springfield, IL is horrific. I can only access a few of the crashes as they extend for miles. This is just one stretch of the road. Dozens of tow trucks & even more emergency personnel. Also the dust is constant. Still. Very bad situation.
This is a view of a tornado southeast of Gibson City from around 6pm tonight. Damage reported on county road 200 E just east of highway 47 and southeast of town. Picture from Brystal Deer.
DRONE: A boat parade for @realDonaldTrump on Table Rock Lake near Kimberling City, Missouri. Thousands of boats turned out for the event which went from the Kimberling City bridge to Table Rock Dam.
Hey. Let’s chill on the excitement posts for tornadoes and itching for a “high risk” to be issued. The last 5 high risk days since 2019 have combined for 83 deaths. Remember that as a chaser, tomorrow is a potentially life altering day… and before posting something that can be construed for “wanting a high risk” from @NWSSPC remember what the real impacts are to people living there.
So… current situation at the TV station. During our severe weather coverage tonight we had torrential downpours and water has flooded the station. We stayed in the air despite 4” of water flowing into the studio. Checked that one off the bucket list. Studio flooding live on air!
Here is the full video of the lightning strike right behind @StateFarmCenter around 10:55pm Tuesday night. I slowed it down a few times and zoomed in as well. Enjoy!
Illinois state police say 72 vehicles are reported being involved in the crash on I-55. A total of 37 people were transported to area hospitals. Injuries range from minor to life-threatening & ages span from 2 to 80-years-old. There were 6 fatalities.
Horrific images from the pile up on I-55 south of Springfield, IL. Dozens of vehicles involved. Semis, cars, trucks. All caused by a dust storm in the area.
A search and rescue boat according to a marine traffic map racing to the accident scene and making several passes along where the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the 71 years of broadcasting at WCIA, there have only been 5 chief meteorologists at the station. It’s quite unheard of in this industry to have that few with the usual turnover. I had the pleasure of joining Derick and Judy for a rare photo this past weekend. Of course Robert Reese and Mr. Roberts were the other two.
Just watched Steve Harrigan on Fox News get choked up reporting on the latest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Breathing deeply and tearing up. Can’t imagine the stress, fear, & anxiety these brave reporters from all the networks have to go through to be journalists and cover all of this.
Amazingly no reports of damage from the tornadoes this morning. This picture from Damon Downs north of I-57 and Olympian drive north side of Champaign. @NWSLincolnIL
I just caught this cloud to ground lightning strike on our weather camera tonight looking towards the State Farm Center. It almost looks like it hits something in the distance, but hard to tell. Whew! This is looking south. ⚡️
As they say in show business “The show must go on.” I’ll admit standing in 4” of water in a studio full of electronics and cables had me a little worried, but we kept doing what we had to do to keep our severe weather coverage going. Thanks to those that stuck with us. #ILwx
This is our dog Wrigley. We had his ashes infused into this memorial glass for display in our home as memory of him. We chose red white and blue colors for the Cubs as his name was Wrigley. The white colors are his ashes. I’d like to thank Prairie Fire Glass in Monticello for the unique piece. We miss you Wrigs but you live on forever with us. @jimdpfg
We want you in the lowest level of your home during tornado warnings for this exact reason. Flying debris will penetrate through a roof without issue. This was last night in Leroy, IL as storms rolled through. Waiting on @NWSLincolnIL confirmation of a tornado.
Look at the motion on this storm that looks to be forming a tornado near Chicago's @fly2ohare airport. This was about 7:02pm. Reports of some damage to warehouses west of O'Hare. @NWSChicago#ILwx
I can't stress this enough today. STAY WEATHER AWARE & HAVE A PLAN! The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center now puts Champaign, Decatur, and Springfield all in the moderate risk area now. Tornadoes are LIKELY today in central Illinois. Take the threat today seriously.
Unconfirmed, but a plane belonging to Pennsylvania state police just flew into Willard for a possible refuel. Plane could be carrying suspect Bryan Kohberger accused in the Idaho killings.
Had the opportunity to shoot some drone video from inside @IlliniFootball Memorial Stadium @Illinois_Alma tonight for the @WCIA3sports kickoff show. @WCIA3Bret @WCIA3Marlee @WCIA3Andy
They don’t make them any better. A true professional that worked his tail off everyday. My work life was better because @WCIA3Bret was a part of it. I’m glad I get to call him a great friend even outside of work. We will miss you. Good luck in your next chapter.
So I asked my bosses if maybe we could get a nice brand new shiny Tahoe for the new StormTracker. They presented me with this today at our staff meeting. 🥴
It’s a real 1/26th to scale diecast model of the Tahoe.
Funny aren’t they? I guess I need to be more specific!
Hearing of possible issues already with Champaign county voting as “systems are down”. My wife is at a polling location in Mahomet and was told this by the election judge. People are standing around waiting, some have left as they can not wait around.
Probably top 3 most embarrassing moments for me on TV in my 21 year career. So... I was watching the feed on one of our TV's in the weather center, that I thought was the main production LIVE feed, instead it was the DirectTV feed which has like a 10 second delay. See 2nd tweet.
The rare "Very unhealthy" purple color showing up in places like Decatur, Clinton, Sullivan, and Shelbyville. I can't say in my time as a 21 year meteorologist that I've seen air quality this bad in our area. #cILwx#ILwx
Closing up shop for the night. Hope everyone stayed safe. Thanks to everyone who tuned in to our coverage. I know some areas did get damage and will be picking up the pieces tomorrow. Unfortunately we may have severe weather again on Tuesday. You know we’ll be here.
Very large crowds of peaceful protesters kneeled for 7 minutes at the intersection of Vine and Main Street in @cityofurbana and then continued their march up Vine street. Police helping to control traffic allowing protesters to have a voice.
Another video of the tornado coming into the NW side of Maroa yesterday. You can hear the tornado sirens going off in the distance. While the condensation funnel isn’t fully visible all the way to the ground, this tornado was doing damage at ground level. #cILwx#ILwx#Tornado
Champaign county clerk Aaron Ammons tells WCIA they are having county wide network issues. “I’ve sent numerous messages and calls to our vendor who is in control of this and have not received response.” “I’ve also spoken with the states attorney to see if we can get an injunction to extend the voting hour today, I think we will be able to do that.” There is no timeline when things can get back up and running. #ElectionDay
Just caught something cool on my dashcam… as I was driving home quite the lightning strike. What makes it unique is the fact it is striking our 1000 foot tall WCIA broadcast tower near Seymour, IL. Notice how the bolt just stops. It hit the top of the antenna.
