I’ve often wondered: is it possible to forget your jacket in Baltimore and get one for $5.99 at a second-hand shop in Jacksonville the night before your talk? It is, my friends, it is!
I have an amazing team who shine in the toughest times & look out for me even when they’re hurting, too. We have all gone through a lot with the death of our lab manager this week, who took care of us and our research for 20+ years. We will miss you, Brandon, and we will carry on
Setting up a Zoom meeting? Avoid the #darkside of #zoombombing: use a password, disable screen sharing, annotation, and whiteboard, and allow only the host to unmute and enable sharing. See the FBI warning here @NPRnpr.org/2020/04/03/826129520…
Look what's under the tree: #MISEV2023 has been accepted for publication! This third iteration of the international consensus guidelines on minimal information for studies of #ExtracellularVesicles is brought to you by @Joadwe @lodrisc1@GoberdhanD & Clotilde Théry, plus the #ISEV board and the whole, amazing EV community!
What you can expect from the new #MISEV:
Nomenclature: communication of concepts and new info on #NVEPs (non-vesicular extracellular particles)
Collection and pre-processing. Pre-analytical variables for EV sources including bacteria, biofluids, tissue
EV separation and concentration
EV characterization
Technique-specific reporting for EV characterization
EV release and uptake
Functional studies
In vivo EV studies

Let’s remember to give each other credit. The #undergrad who had a good idea. The #technician who worked hard every day to make a paper possible. The #mentor who taught you and gave you a chance to thrive. You don’t lose by giving credit. #Publication#SciencePublishing
People ask me if there’s one instrument to phenotype, size, and count #ExtracellularVesicles. Glad to announce the “Ken-o-scope” that works at least for macro-sized EVs 🤣#joking#ServiceForHire
First time in my career that a paper was accepted on first submission and without revisions! Also cool that it was the second paper accepted today…a rare good-news day, and I’ll gladly take it! 😅
Seeking a motivated postdoc to join our dynamic team. Study #ExtracellularVesicles incl EV release, uptake assays, novel methods to separate EVs and other exRNA carriers. Must be able to start in Sept/Oct. COVID means local candidates/in the US may have preference. Send CV to me.
I bet most of us have never screened 27 DIFFERENT BUFFERS!! Amazing work from @andregorgens and El-Andaloussi lab on storage and stability of #ExtracellularVesicles, presented now on #EVClub@IsevOrg @IsevComms @ISEV_JEV
My crucial competencies by scientific career stage
Undergraduate: washing glassware, learning basic techniques
Graduate: experimental design and building a coherent publication
Postdoc: integrating projects, mentorship, and networking
PI: reducing manuscript wordcounts by 33%
Did you know that tumors can be hot? As in, up to 3.5°C hotter than surrounding tissue? AND temp affects release of #ExtracellularVesicles! Check out this recent ms from Otsuka, Yamamoto, and @IsevOrg board member Takahiro Ochiya: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/… @IsevComms #cancer#EVs
Calling all experts on #ExtracellularVesicles: your input is requested by Friday, August 26 on the next #MISEV (minimal information for studies of EVs) coordinated by @IsevOrg@lodrisc1@GoberdhanD @Joadwe How can you get involved?
The Journal of Extracellular Vesicles @ISEV_JEV, yes, has a new impact factor. More importantly and impressively in my view: on Clarivate's list of 20,000 journals, JEV is the #4 ranked journal with 100% open access content. #ExtracellularVesicles#ISEVonlinelibrary.wiley.com/jour…
I'm so proud of my team @LabWitwer for pulling together to make things happen. After a rough couple of years, I realized today that we have more primary research papers under review than ever before...and more on the way. Thank you All!!
Going to #ISEV2023? The Link light rail is the cheapest way to get from SeaTac airport to the conference: only $3. Grab your bags, go to 4th floor, skybridge to the parking lot, and follow the signs, easy-peasy! portseattle.org/page/public-…
A reviewer recently ruled "reject" on a submitted paper since we measured small #ExtracellularVesicles <100 nm in diameter by #NanoFlow. In the reviewer's opinion, this finding was invalidating, since "classical extracellular vesicles have a size of greater than 100 nm."
In fact, many (often most) EVs are smaller than 100 nm in diameter. If you are measuring a larger average population size, this may simply be due to the insensitivity of most optical methods to smaller particles.
Signage is up and #ISEV2022 is all set to begin! Thanks Steph for the pic and to the whole #IOC for their hard work in making this happen, especially chairs Lorraine O’Driscoll @lodrisc1 and Sophie Rome #ExtracellularVesicles#ISEV@IsevOrg @IsevComms
Huge proud co-advisor congrats to Bonita Powell @bonita_powell for passing your oral qualifying exams!! Next stop PhD!! We’re all so happy for you and tbh not too surprised at the outcome! @BCMB_JHMI
Wow! What a surprise for my birthday! Zach and @Ashley_Russellx lured me into the conference room to discuss some #ExtracellularVesicles experiments with @IdylleLabs dyes, and suddenly everyone cheering with balloons, cake, and presents! (We talked about the experiments...later)
Our latest is now in J Extracell Vesicles: Characterization of #EVs and synthetic nanoparticles with 4 orthogonal single‐particle analysis platforms. Twitter asks if I want to read the article before posting...believe me, I have read it! #ExtracellularVesicles @IsevComms
