Last night, the Ohio Legislature failed to pass the transgender athlete ban! This victory for trans athletes and all LGBTQIA+ young people in Ohio demonstrates the power of advocacy and the good that can come when people bravely tell their stories. #LetTransKidsPlay

⚠️TAKE ACTION ⚠️
House Bill 68, which bans gender-affirming care for minors AND trans girls from playing school sports, will have proponent testimony on Tues., 11/28 (one week from today!). While it isn’t our turn to testify (yet!), here’s how you can stay involved:

⚠️The trans athlete ban (H.B. 6) has opponent testimony TODAY at 9:30 a.m. in the Ohio House Higher Ed Committee. We’ll be there to share stories of and from transgender athletes in Ohio, like Nyx.
Read her story ⬇️ + tune in to watch live at OhioChannel.org
ALT This is a black graphic with pink lines outlining it and a quotation mark. The graphic has white text that says Just because you’re trans doesn’t mean you’re going to be better at it. We talked to Nyx, a 14-year-old transgender swimmer, about her experience practicing – but not competing – with her high school team. While Nyx hopes to compete under the current OHSAA guidelines for transgender athletes later in her high school swimming career, that opportunity could be taken from her entirely if Ohio House Bill 6 passes.
ALT This is a black graphic with pink lines outlining it and a quotation mark. The graphic has white text that says I started swimming in the 6th grade. I came out in 7th grade. I wasn’t on the team that year because, ya know, 2020. I was coming back last year, and that’s when I was first starting to know about how there was so much about trans women in sports. I was just so confused because I was the slowest on my team. So I was just like, in what way is this unfair, exactly? You’d never think the person that’s slowest on the team would be the one that’s talked about the most.
ALT This is a black graphic with pink lines outlining it and a quotation mark. The graphic has white text that says Whenever my school would do awards for stuff, I couldn’t get recognized by them because I wasn’t competing officially. I was going to practice at 6 o’clock IN THE MORNING. But, I don’t go to any of the meets.
📣 UPDATE: The committee hearing for H.B. 183 was cancelled for this week!

ALT This is a black graphic with white text that says: “Help protect us, not harm us.” This week, the Ohio State School Board of Education is voting on a despicable resolution that encourages Ohio school districts to discriminate against LGBTQIA+ youth. Young people across Ohio have taken a stance against this hateful policy. Here's some of what they've had to say.
Senator Antonio is speaking in opposition now: "The majority of Ohioans have said they don't want the government involved in their most private health care decisions...We aren't just overriding Gov. DeWine's veto. We're overriding the will of Ohioans."
Good news: The hearing and possible vote on the transgender athlete ban was CANCELLED for tomorrow!
Please continue to contact the representatives on the Ohio House Higher Education Committee and urge them to not take up H.B. 6 again.

HB68, which bans gender-affirming care for minors AND ban trans women/girls from playing K-12 and college sports in Ohio, is scheduled to be voted out of the Ohio Senate Government Oversight Committee on Wed, Dec 13 at 9 a.m. It could also be voted on by the full Senate that day.

There have been a number of parents of trans youth who have spoken out today against HB 454. Their stories show a clear consensus: trans youth know who they are from a young age. We need to believe them and support them when they tell us who they are!
Join us Monday at the State Board of Education meeting and grab a t-shirt to show your solidarity with trans youth!
Also, look for the Community Care team, who'll be wearing these lanyards. KYC's team of behavioral health professionals will be there all day if you need to talk.
ALT This is a photo of blue shirts that say "Protect Trans Youth" in pink and white text. There are signs that say I Stand with Trans Youth and Trans Youth Deserve to Feel Safe in School. There are trans flags and a progress pride flag, and there are Community Care Team lanyards.

"Once again, they’re taking away rights the whole Christmas season. And out-of-state anti-LGBTQIA+ hate groups are, quite simply, the reason."

Public testimony on the anti-LGBTQ+ resolution is happening NOW.
We will be testifying against this discriminatory, hateful policy, and many other Ohioans are too. Follow along on this thread and at ohiochannel.org/live/state-b….
⚠️TAKE ACTION AND SUPPORT LGBTQ+ YOUTH⚠️ (CW: anti-LGBTQ+ language)
On Oct. 12, the Ohio Board of Education will VOTE on a hateful resolution targeting #LGBTQ students.
LGBTQ+ young people are NOT "harmful, coercive, or burdensome." This despicable resolution is. ⬇️
ALT This graphic is white and green text on a blurred brown background. The text says, “On Wednesday, October 12, the Ohio Board of Education will vote on a hateful, anti-LGTBQ+ resolution despite hundreds of Ohioans, including students, teachers, parents, advocates, counselors and administrators, opposing the resolution since its introduction last month. Learn more and take action.”
ALT This is a black background with white and green text that says, “This resolution would: Oppose federal guidance recommended in June extending Title IX protections to LGBTQ+ students. Require the state superintendent to instruct all school districts to disregard Title IX guidance. Endorse requiring Ohio schools to report student identities, alternative names and pronouns to families, regardless of possible risks for youth. Endorse prohibiting trans youth in sports and school facilities. Reject "harmful, coercive, and burdensome gender identity policies." Ricky: "When I stumbled upon that information, it was like everything suddenly clicked into place; like my whole life up until that point finally made sense... had I not been able to receive any of this life-saving [gender-affirming] care as a minor, I would not be alive today."

⚠️Happening TODAY at 9:30 a.m. ⚠️
We'll live tweet the opponent testimony for House Bill 6 (trans athlete ban), which we encourage folks to follow or watch at ohiochannel.org instead of paying attention to the hateful things that will be said during the H.B. 68 hearing.
TWO transphobic bills are getting hearings April 26: HB 6, which bans trans women from competing in school sports, has opponent testimony (that’s us!), and H.B. 68, which bans gender affirming care for minors, has proponent testimony.
Here’s how to stand up for trans youth⬇️
Ricky Fite, who's trans/nonbinary: "I didn’t know what was wrong with me or why. It was completely by chance that I learned about gender dysphoria and what it means to be transgender; they certainly didn’t teach us anything about it in school."
Youth! For #Genderscope community night, we're going to see @ChaseRoss at @MCC_OSU! Want to join us?! Pls contact evan@kycohio.org. It's a later night and we'll be on a bus, so we need a permission slip! There's plenty of space still available! mcc.osu.edu/events.aspx/2018…
❗️TAKE ACTION❗️

ALT This is a black graphic with white text that says "I wish my school would be supporting, not just accepting. Accepting is asking for pronouns but not using them in class. I am tired of transphobic kids. I am not the only trans kid. We need more than one gender-neutral bathroom. Teacher support feels like it is for show.” - KYC Youth
ALT This is a black graphic with white text that says "Educate the teachers on the dos and don’ts of working with LGBTQ youth. I came out to my parents before I came out to my teachers because I was worried my teachers would out me. All of my teachers responded positively except one. No response from the last one. Then my parents got an email from that teacher. The teacher outed me to my parents. They called my name 'unusual.' They misgendered and deadnamed me throughout the entire email. They need to be more educated on this issue so they don’t put kids in danger.” - KYC youth
ALT This is a black graphic with white text that says "My school could do better by using a kid’s chosen name and pronouns without parental consent. Also, there is a gender-neutral bathroom at my school. There is only one and it is far away from my classes. My teachers could try harder to not misgender me. I don’t think that they’ll get fired for respecting me. If I was a teacher, I would risk my job for trans kids.” - 17-YEAR-OLD NEW ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

Ohio’s State Board of Education is meeting again today to consider a resolution targeting LGBTQIA+ students. KYC staff will be in attendance, testifying & providing Community Care response to those who need support while they’re at the meeting. Watch live: OhioChannel.org
ALT This is a black graphic with white text that says, “These meetings are during the school day, which is unacceptable because it’s hard for students to be here. It's been hard for many young people to attend the meetings where the State School Board considers adopting a resolution that targets LGBTQIA+ youth, but they're still speaking out.”
“We know as an organization we can't do this alone, and one individual can't either. And so, it's our way of really wrapping around these young folks to let them know they belong here, and they matter. And to make sure they have access to what they need.” spectrumnews1.com/oh/columbu…
