We thought seeing pro gaming be recognized by the mainstream was the end goal and something to be proud of. To finally see our passions and βnerd cultureβ be recognized by the bigger population of peopleβ¦ but we were so wrong, because with that came corporate franchising and these suit and tie big wigs who just wanted a piece of the pie that have never picked up a controller in their life.
Weβre not suit and tie, briefcases, oval desk board meeting with water on the table kinda people.
Weβre crowded hotel ballroom, sleep on floor if you have to, drop a paycheck for a road-trip 5 states away to try and make a fucking name for yourself kinda motherfuckers, and those were the best god damn years in this industry.
βesportsβ was never meant for formality, βesportsβ was brought on by a small group of people with a passion for bringing people together through the love of video games, NO MATTER WHAT IT TOOK.
Thereβs more passion and love in these almost 20 year old photos of shitty smelling gamer filled hotels than anything Iβve been seeing from these business first franchises.
I would give anything to have this back. Pro gaming needs to go back home.

To add some context, if you go 40-25 while getting useless kills, Iβd consider that less impactful than going 25-40 but 15 of those 25 were rotational/scrap/crucial kills that actually impacted the game in a significant manner.
