→ a golden thread runs through each paper, but there are also important differences.
→ This is where a Sims' et al., (2022) work on effective PD helps: we need to focus on underlying "mechanisms".
→Importantly, more mechanisms = higher PD impact.

I guess I am a tiny bit suspicious about the term deliberate practice and whether it really applies to what we do when we work with teachers. I prefer to think of the stuff that happens in coaching as 'rehearsal.'

For me, this image from Peps' thread says it all re: how hard we're continuously thinking about making the deconstruction of great teaching CLEAR, EASY TO NAVIGATE and PURPOSE-DRIVEN.
Organising effective teaching around a model of learning can help mitigate this risk...
As the purpose of each technique is embedded in the very structure of the hierarchy.
And if this hierarchy is explored during coaching, then we're more likely to build adaptive expertise.

1) We must move away from whole-school inset-style CPD and towards an Instructional Coaching model...
2) To achieve this, build a culture where teachers know that improvement requires constant effort.
