Right, it's time to call a spade a spade. Nicola Willis, our Finance Minister, is in way over her head. She's been playing a game of "I did it, no, they did it" when it comes to the economy. First, she took credit for the OCR rise back in August, but now she's back to blaming the previous Labour government.
You can't have it both ways, Nicola!
Let's be honest, Nicola was a stay-at-home mum before taking on the biggest job in the country's economy. We all remember the criticism Jacinda Adern copped for not having a "real job" before becoming Prime Minister.
Well, the same criticism applies to Nicola. And let's not forget, she's delivered a miserable austerity budget that's got everyone tightening their belts. When the government starts preaching about saving money and cutting back, it has a knock-on effect on everyone, especially businesses.
CFOs get nervous, government departments hold back on contracts, and small businesses and industry suffer, leading to serious damage to the economy.
The Prime Minister needs to cut Nicola loose. If she was coaching the All Blacks or Black Ferns, she'd be sacked by now, and she'd be facing a public grilling.
The Finance Minister is not performing, and Luxon needs to step up and take the reins himself. It's time for a change at the top.
