Can we talk about this? One year ago today, Niantic announced they would retire Classic cups permanently. They promised they would start running Premier Cups more frequently in future seasons. This is now the second consecutive season with 0 Premier Cups on the schedule.
Legend season 23! 🙌 A few close calls but a 4-1 at 2994 got me over the top.
Tough meta, but my old ABA grass team (with Gastrodon instead of Claydol) got me over the top!
Pictured are the 3 teams I used the most during the climb:
“Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokemon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.”
Not the first streamer to Legend this season, but happy to cross the finish line with my all-time favorites Medicham and Bastiodon! 🥰
5-0 to Legend! Annihilape/Dewgong core is powerful 💪
Dewgong lead for the past 3 days since Dewgong is corebreaking a LOT of top leaderboard teams at the moment, but Annihilape lead/Dewgong safe swap carried me most of the way.
Close Combat Ape OF COURSE!
Second season in a row of being the FIRST CUPHEAD SPEEDRUNNING TWITCH STREAMER TO LEGEND!!
Pictured: a couple of the teams I climbed with in Great League this season. This meta is fun and refreshing!
Finally back on top! 👑
Bastiodon is the GOAT. I used only teams featuring Bastiodon over the past week. Pictured are some of the teams I used.
Thank you, you magnificent wall dinosaur ❤️
Season 14 Legend! Really glad to hit this before this league rotation was done. I don’t have the roster to compete in Open Master League and Little Cup is very unappealing to me. Shadow Skuntank was a versatile core breaker for a lot of teams!
I actually kinda like all the changes Niantic has made lately. It’s made it waaaay easier for me to ignore this game without caring and spend time playing better games like Legends Arceus.
(For real though these changes are awful)
Some battlers run Dewgong + RPS backline teams and they're also well ranked in leaderboard.
These battlers are usually worshiped and considered like "GBL heroes" by the average of the PvP community 'cause, u know, their nickname "is in leaderboard".
I hope the “4x chance of an XL candy on transfer” becomes a regular CD bonus.
It lessens the advantage gained by spoofers/alt accounts by giving more accessible ways to obtain XLs besides transferring Pokémon caught 100km+ apart. Overall very healthy for the game!
There’s a big difference between someone losing their account/Pokémon because *they* did something stupid, vs someone losing their account because *Niantic* themselves gave an unauthorized person access (which is speculated to have happened in Fleece’s case).
Back on top! 🏆
Guess I found the new “Jason line”. Morpeko leads are difficult to overcome, but most other team comps are manageable. Drifblim is a very underrated pokemon in the meta at the moment!
I want the same level of confidence in life as that rocket grunt that says “Don’t bother, I’ve already won” shortly before throwing a Chikorita out to battle my Dialga.
Lmao. One of the biggest whales of the game makes a post about how people that spend money on Pokémon Go are the problem, then promptly blocks me, one of the more accomplished F2P players of the game. Love the irony 🤷♂️
I know it’s a throwaway season and not too many people are being try-hards, but hey, hit a 100 win streak today in Open Great League! Gonna keep rolling into Ultra League and see how far we can take it!
Hit Legend after a brief pit stop at 2999! No Medi/Bastiodon either (sorry degens!)
Also, didn’t get the Geeta pose? Not showing up in the shop either. What’s the deal @NianticHelp ?
Winning streak has sadly come to an end at 104 :(
Congrats to TheDefe for taking me down! Video of my team and the last 20 or so battles will be coming soon.
I like the idea of 1 week rotations for GBL, but I wish it was the main leagues that rotated every week and the specialty cups were on 2 week rotations instead of vice versa. It feels bad to pour a ton of dust/candy into a Pokémon that only gets 1 week of use.
Anyone agree?
Finally made it to level 50! Evolved my favorite shadow Pokémon for the last XP we needed. Also worth mentioning (and I’ll only mention this once, I promise!) but I am 100% free-to-play since Day 1! Not a big raider as you can probably tell.
Season 21 recap:
✅ continued my streak of finishing the season on the 1st page of the leaderboards (14 consecutive seasons now) 🏆
✅ ONLY person in the world (to my knowledge) to hit 3500+ rating every season since Legend Rank was introduced 📈📈📈
GL all on Season 22! 🥳
As much as I wanted Bastiodon to carry me into the top 8, I’ll have to settle for top 16. Fun tournament! Happy with how I played and best of luck to the rest of the competitors!
Decided to try to bring back a bunch of nerfed Pokemon today and it went surprisingly well! Started out 10-0 and hit a season high later in the stream!
(Don’t ask about the last two sets though, I don’t want to talk about it)
9-1 run to Expert today in Psychic Cup!
Nothing too special about the team. Just 3 somewhat flexible Pokemon with good coverage moves that are dangerous with energy.
Psychic Cup is surprisingly fun and doesn’t feel particularly RPS. Good energy/shield management is key! 💪
So close 🥈, but I think I’m done for the season. Looking forward to the new meta!
Yes, I used a 15 attack Annihilape (with Close Combat) and a Mud Shot Shadow Poliwrath to hit my season high.
16 seasons in a row finishing on the 1st page of the GBL leaderboards! Didn’t think I’d be able to keep the streak going for 4 full years, but here we are.
Excited to hear that 1t lag may finally be fixed, so I’ll be celebrating by actually streaming GBL tonight! 🥳🎉
3 things in life are guaranteed:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Jason2890 finishing a GBL season on the first page of the leaderboard
10 seasons in a row! Never anticipated I would keep the streak up for this long, but looking forward to keeping it going! GL everyone next season!
Veteran ✅
Haven’t settled on a team for Ultra yet but here are 3 that I used quite a bit. Shadow Hypno in particular was very fun to use (Ice Punch for Cradily/Zygarde matchups + Thunder Punch for Gatr/Lapras/Golisopod/Talon and neutral matchups).
Classic Niantic. I hardly ever play these specialty Little Cups but the one time I decide to invest stardust into a strong (supposedly) eligible Pokemon they decide to secretly ban it 🫠
RIP stardust
12 seasons in a row, 3 consecutive years finishing every season on the 1st page of the leaderboard! 🥳
Excited for the upcoming meta changes, and hopeful we can keep the streak going!
When is fast move damage applied? Conclusive proof using frame advance below:
TL;DW: Fast move damage is applied exactly 1 turn (0.5 seconds) prior to the end of the fast move animation. So for Incinerate, a 5 turn move (2.5 seconds), damage is applied after the 4th turn ends.
Surpassed my ending rating from last season during this MLP rotation! This team is absolutely busted. 0 negative sets since the start of the rotation. Feel free to check out my old video for strategy on how to play this team! piped.video/lvt7ZNJ2wWE
Ending season 15 on what will be my 8th consecutive season finishing on the 1st page of the leaderboard! And my 5th in a row finishing in the top 25.
Excited for the upcoming season! Here’s hoping for another good one! 💪
Maybe a hot take, but I don’t think Pokémon GO needs to be more complex. It’s simplistic and fast paced, which gives it appeal to casual audiences, but there’s still enough strategy/depth for the better players to win more often than not.
We’ve almost reached the point of the Pokémon GO exploit news cycle where uninformed players now believe:
A. Every single incident of lag = opponent abusing an exploit
B. Every top level player = cheating
C. Dropping fast moves = related to the exploit
A tale as old as time.
Almost forgot to post this, but finally got the candies and finished maxing out this beast on stream yesterday! Should be a fun new toy once Ultra comes back around 💪
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!
Super excited. I'm going to do a week long celebration where I will draw something in MS Paint for each of my current Twitch subscribers (and anyone new that subscribes over the next week)! I couldn't have done it without all of you! :)
Made it! Had a 10-0 run from 2869 to hit Legend.
Running the same team I made a video about last season for anyone curious: piped.video/nzCxQm5fjJI
Same tactics apply despite the meta shifts. Zacian and Zarude are not a problem since Togekiss can handle both fine.
