An HR/recruiter person on LinkedIn is arguing that HR and recruiting should have full veto rights on any hire - even if the manager and rest of team wants them.
This is wild, correct? I’m trying to think of a world where this even makes sense.
We’ve turned stuff in and then later, found the owner only to find out that when they called, they were told nobody ever turned it in
People are trash lately I trust none of them
Recruiter on LinkedIn just posted he refuses to hire someone who says something like “happy to chat, let me know availability” in the email or inmail vs a more formal response.
I’d fire the recruiter who thought that not the candidate who did it.
Am I crazy? (On this issue)
This is why people hate recruiters. This woman says she won’t put a candidate forward if they ask for comp in a first call.
She now leads career services for @QuickStartIntel - so what a disaster.
To put that in perspective, that would be like someone making $100,000 a year boasting about donating $700 collectively.
The 1.3 sounds impressive until you realize that has zero impact on him.
CEO's are now looking for non-hr people to lead Chief People & Culture roles. Why? Many HR leaders haven't taken the time to really learn the business, how it makes money, what they impacts are and how to engage employees and customers for growth.

I was asked by an exec last month to apply for a VP job they had open b/c they wanted see how his TA team handled my (pre reviewed) resume:
It was a job I’m:
1) qualified for
2) show direct experience in
3) direct industry experience
Only gap: didn’t have exact job title
My son is applying for a jr intern role with an #hrtech company - I asked him to put his resume together.
He built a website...was confused as to why anyone would want a word doc instead.
#genz#momlife#wakeupcall#futureofwork
I made the mistake at looking at @LinkedIn this morning and seeing 2 “job search experts” giving some really, really bad advice. if you are a job seeker - PLEASE be careful who you listen to. 1 page resumes & refusing to talk to the recruiters vs hiring manager is bad advice
Just saw a job ad for HR pro - 15 years experience & degree needed - $14-18/hour.
Honestly, I want to tell anyone applying to just take a job at target - you’ll likely make more when you factor in the employee discount and won’t have to deal w/a company that thinks $14 is ok.
My son lost a good friend yesterday to suicide. A kid that was goofy, loving and surrounded with friends and family that love him. If you need help - Ask. If someone asks you for help, take them seriously. Perception is not always reality. And no, it never makes sense
All that to say…when you get mad that people are “going around” your recruiting team - look and see if there may be a reason for it.
We have seen at least a dozen times where top candidate (who went on to be an amazing ee) was declined by recruiting over job title
What works well in recruiting?
1. Honestly in the process
2. Fast Responses
3. Proactive Strategies (sourcing)
4. Meaningful interviews
5. Treating candidates with respect
6. Not relying on one source
7. Referrals!

Prayers/Positive Thoughts/Etc please for my brother - His #COVID19 has progressed, fever isn’t coming down and he has not been able to come off oxygen today. His isolation roommate at the facility passed away overnight.
I don’t care how “important” or “legendary” someone in our industry is when they are disrespectful and rude to women in private.
We have had to bite tongues and overlook these older men speaking to us like we are children or owe them something for far too long.
It’s enough.
I would love to see an ATS that allows a candidates name AND address to be hidden until they are screened "in" or "out" during initial review - that would have a huge bias impact. #hrtech#diversity#nextchat
I was asked today if I’m ever concerned sharing about my grief, loss & anxiety openly will make me lose work.
I don’t really care.
#MentalHealthAwareness matters to me - my vulnerability has made others feel less alone.
People are worth more than money
Grief is a funny thing.
Today is the anniversary of the death of my high school sweetheart, husband of 10 years and father to my amazing children - He was 35.
Today is a mix of fine and 2 minutes later crying in aisle 6 of grocery store after seeing gummy worms (his favorite)
If the only women that are getting promoted in your company are the ones that’s are agreeable or do what they are told; you’re doing it wrong.
HRTech Vendors, I hold you to a higher standard on this.

A friend reached out to me yesterday - their company is not letting them work remote - she works in an office with no need to be onsite....
All the executive team is working remote but the managers and employees aren’t allowed
This is not ok
My mom is stable but limited details available until tomorrow. Thank you all for the continued prayers and well wishes, my family and I appreciate it. 🙏
For all of you that have been praying, sending good vibes etc the last few months, thank you. My mother in law lost her short, but hard, battle with Cancer this weekend.
The prayers and thoughts of people who didn’t even know her is appreciated more than you know.
Please do not “Out” someone who is privately:
LGBTQ
Pregnant
Getting divorced
Getting Married
Struggling with #MentalHealth
Looking for a new job
Having marriage issues
Anything else that you “heard”
There is likely a reason it is private.
How do you even pack a suitcase for the 3 day trip to abandon your child in another state? (or as my husband calls it - leaving an 18 year old adult son at college with a full meal plan and dorm paid to lead his own life w/out his mom) #moveinweek@UNLincoln
I just read an HR person claiming that the hiring manager shouldn’t be able to decide on the candidate for their job opening and It should only be HR/recruiter to decide on who gets hired.
Do people actually *really* believe this?
Are you wanting to write about #hrtech or #futureofwork trends? I'll be selecting a handful of contributors this week for the upcoming launch @HRTechSpot - Message/Email/Tweet/DM me if you are interested!
This month, 4 years have passed since my kids dad died. Each year it’s a bit easier but with prom and graduation around the corner for my son, it’s been harder for him. This morning I woke up to a playlist of his dad’s fav songs. #momlife is really tough but awesome sometimes
I wasted a lot of years waiting for permission to live my own life vs fitting the most others expected of me.
If you are doing that…stop.
For me; changing my life meant moving to a location that fed my soul and gave me margin for mental downtime.
Recruiters: please remove evergreen or any other jobs from job boards that you are not actively hiring for.
Now is not the time to build your CRM out and play with emotions.

After 32 days sick and 14 days on an inhaler I am so excited to only have used it only 3x yesterday (has been 6x/day)
Celebrating the progress and little wins in this.
This is where I see this happening all the time. The number of really great sales AE’s that get overlooked for the dumbest reasons. We absolutely help them go around HR and recruiting. And it always works out for company.
It further came out that many of the TA team regularly declined candidates who had been consultants, fractional execs, or self employed
They looked exclusively and job title and not at the actual experience or skills match of what was happening.
On Sunday my husband & I decided to pray about if we should sell our house or not. On Monday a realtor randomly contacted us asking if we’d consider selling, they had a buyer. On Tuesday a family saw it. On Wednesday we accepted our “goal” offer & sold it. #prayboldly
I’ve worked 72 hours since Monday. And some C suite bro on LinkedIn I’ve never met wanted to point out he was (and will always be) better and smarter than me because I encouraged women to apply for a Board of Directors Role. #womenintech
So I launched a company yesterday and the @Aspect43 website soft launched today.
It has a pretty amazing team behind it including the amazing @mollielombardi running our research group.
You should check it out...

My son's friend attempted suicide last night and is currently in ICU.
A reminder to parents that even the "popular" "athletic" kids that look like they "have it all" may not be ok.
Reach out, listen, don't judge & get help for your teens mental health.
#momlife#genzmom
My son just found out he got 100% on 2 of his Finals and 95% on another. He is a senior and already accepted into 5 D1 schools with scholarships. No bribes needed other than some flaming hot @Cheetos and @redbull now and then #thisishowtogetintocollege
It’s been 7 years today since we lost him, but I chose to focus on the 20 crazy years i had him in my life. It was anything but boring.
Anyway, look how perfectly 90’s we look at our high school graduation party. Crazy to think our oldest is now older than we are here.
I was pitching my new company to respected C-suite member of a major vendor and they said it could fundamentally change how we buy and sell #hrtech 5 year from now.
That was the goal, but to hear someone else say that after hearing the plan... Crazy.
#startups#vc
I just got off a call with a university career services team who said they are going to stop having job/internship posting for students because helping them find a job after college isn't as important as helping them find their passion while in school.
Are we in crazytown. #HR
I wish someone would have told me in my younger years that some people are just mean and no matter how nice you are to them.
Sometimes, it really is them and not you.
Just ran across a presentation deck I did in 2007 on "Recruiting with Retention in Mind" Featuring Employment Branding, Sourcing Strategies, Internal Mobility & Using Data. So, basically what we are still talking about 12 years later. #hrtech#speakerlife#groundhogday
In Olympic news that’s good.
Flava flav is actually sponsoring the women’s water polo team and pushing other celebrities to pick a women’s team to help fund so they aren’t having to train and work multiple jobs
What most people don't realize when they decide to start a company is that for a while - you have to know how to do a little bit of everything - accounting, marketing, graphic design, hr, sales, product marketing, social media, etc... not just what your service or product does.
I arrived to my sons college to a dorm room filled with kids. They were scared, sad, yet in good spirits.
He has dealt with meningitis, a friends suicide and a pandemic shutting down school in 6 months.
Check on the teens in your life, they may need it more than you know.
We need to retrain parents and high schools to celebrate the vocational path as highly as the college track
Companies - we need to promote this in our local communities
#hrsotu
Introverts are at the point where we can’t support all the extroverts need for constant zoom meetings just to “connect” with people you haven’t talked to in months.
You all are exhausting us because you’re bored.
To their surprise (not mine) I was declined before even getting a phone screen.
This confirmed hiring managers concerns based on the people getting through to him saying there were declined.
This is a key role currently getting fractional and consulting support by myself/team
A startup #hrtech vendor reached out this week with a GREAT opportunity for me....
I can PAY THEM to write ABOUT THEM and they will share my work on social media and I get so much publicity.
Umm, no. Not how this works.
I wonder how many people are taking some of this time to re-evaluate their career direction, what really matters in life and what changes they will be making in the coming few years...
Prayers please for my mom. She was rushed to hospital this morning for a non-covid related emergency but is high risk and obviously a hospital is not the best place right now.💕
Just saw a resume writer and career coach talking about her 8 years of experience.
It was writing her own resumes when she was looking for jobs.
She has zero HR or recruiting experience.
You all be careful in your job search.
Today would have been my kids dad's 40th birthday. Its been a roller coaster for all of us with graduation, fathers day and his birthday falling over 24 hours.
Grief comes in waves and stages...when/if it hits you, give yourself a break. Remember, you're doing your best
It is hard to believe it’s been 6 years today since we lost him. It feels like days and decades all at once.
Nothing prepares you to just keep going - or how to be a mom to kids after their dad dies. It’s a whole new level of hard.
This is one of my favorite pictures 💕
My observation after a week at a resort with a lot of kids:
Gentle parenting doesn't work. Kids are out of control and have zero respect for anyone around them and parents overlook and barter instead of parenting.
"I'm sorry, he's only 64 months"
No, Jenny, He is 5.
Nope - This is a lie we put in society because we create an image that if you aren’t tired you aren’t working hard enough.
Stop chasing consumerism, stay out of debt, stop caring about “likes” , live contently and you live a pretty relaxed amazing life.
Maybe it’s just me, but if tomorrow I was told everything was just open and we can go out to eat, go shopping, travel...I’d still be locked in my house for weeks until the Drs say it’s clear.
Have you ever considered being an analyst? Do you love to research, analyze and (most of all) write about Human Resources, Talent, Recruiting and HRTech?
Did you even know you can get paid for that?
Looking to talk to some people who may be interested in PT, FT or 1099
I feel like we talk about AI in HR like we used to talk about social...and before that online.
It won't be about "AI for HR" it will just be "HR Technology" and not having it will be out of practice. #HRtech
We need to remember no employee wants anything to do with #hrtech - but they do want to be able to access pay stubs, request time off, apply for a new job, do a review simply. They don't see that as "HR" they see that as their work. #nextchat
I was shocked to see a company suggesting Ivy League only in a job ad I saw today.
Ivy League is as much about affluence and affording $300k for undergrad as it is intelligence today.
Be. Better. Recruiters.
For those so inclined, my MIL’s battle with cancer took a turn yesterday and she was placed in the ICU last night, prayers would be sincerely appreciated by her and the family.
After her hip fracture my daughter realized homecoming was off the table and told her date to ask someone else. He told her to dress up - still do pictures & dinner - she can always go home before the dancing. I’m so glad she did (even if she can only stand on 1 leg)💕💕
My daughter just got into her first choice college!!
After spending a few weeks in a summer program backpacking @GlacierNPS - she knew her passion & where she was headed.
Starting next fall she will studying climate change & ecological sustainability at @umontana#proudmom
Hey @Delta THANK YOU. Your team went above and beyond today to move reservations around and make sure my son could make it home for his friends funeral. This is why we are happy to be #deltadiamond family.
I just read an invitation for an event where the "cool kids will be" and could not want to be further from a professional group that self defines as that.
I was reminded this morning about how many people I know are going through really challenging personal situations right now while continuing to be present at work and online as if their life is ok.
So here’s your reminder to give people grace. You have no idea what’s going on.
can someone make an app so i can just find all of the different TV shows in one place vs remembering what is on which streaming service.
I think it used to be called cable?
I thought this was a joke... I was sadly wrong. A company actually DID fire all the employees who reported they were stressed on a survey about stress their HR Team ran...then gas lit their employees to think it was for their own benefit.
@_yesmadam execs should be fired...
A 7 year old just showed up on my doorstep IN A LITTLE SUIT and conned me into buying something I didn't need because his sales pitch was so smooth.
HE WINKED AT THE END.
Anyway, i now have raffle tickets for a BBQ grill or something.
A recent research project just showed that 40% of companies in Europe claiming to have AI actually have no AI at all - just the buzzword in marketing . #TAtechAI
Sooo, we finally have all our stuff at one location for the first time in 11 months.
A lot more to go but the kitchen is fully unpacked and just that being done feels like 100% less stress and almost normal.
#movinginday#thermador#subzero#kohler
It’s such an old-school mentality and I think she’s probably 55-ish based off of her LinkedIn profile and so she’s even a little bit young, but like this is boomer shit that we way past.
And why I hate career coaches
A quick thank you for everyone's prayers and well wishes.
My brother is home from hospital and stable, hoping to be off oxygen soon.
Covid is no joke, please wear a mask to protect yourself and others.
My daughter asked:
Why do girls have clothing at school banned (tank tops) because they are “distracting to boys” - shouldn’t we instead be teaching boys to just respect us? It feels like they are blaming boys behavior on girls vs personal accountability?
#momlife#realtalk
That time your college friend meets your husband for the first time when randomly sitting next to him at Atlanta airport and recognizing him from my Instagram feed and they send a picture. #smallworld
Sitting with a founder at my kitchen table helping them launch a company - registering their company, deciding on domain name and planning out a growth strategy from scratch today. These are the fun days.
After nearly 2 years of fighting and searching, my friends daughter was located in a foreign country with her kidnapper and is headed home.
This truly is a Christmas Miracle. 💕
Thank you all who have shared, prayed & hoped for this.
#ParentalAlienation
Some guy at airport just shared his full name, address, phone number, birthdate and what I assume is the last 4 of his social Security number on a phone call within ear shot of at least 20 people.
Everyone…
For whoever needs to hear this tonight: You are not responsible for how someone else treats you. Sometimes, other people are just sad or selfish and you seemed like an easy person to take it out on. Let it go.
