Fertilizer Relief Update 🇺🇸🌾
President Trump and
@USDA are delivering real results for American farmers.
Under the Biden Administration, fertilizer prices surged to record highs—rising roughly 40% overall, with some nutrients nearly doubling at their peak. Since January 2025, fertilizer markets have improved significantly, with urea down 58%, potash down 54%, and ammonia down 40% from Biden-era highs. Yesterday’s action builds on that progress by providing additional relief for American farmers.
Yesterday,
@POTUS signed a proclamation temporarily suspending countervailing duties on certain phosphate fertilizer imports—providing immediate relief to producers while strengthening America’s fertilizer supply chain.
This action will:
💰 Save American farmers an estimated $1.82 billion annually
📉 Reduce phosphate fertilizer prices by an estimated 22%
🌾 Benefit more than 100,000 farms
🚜 Support 97 million planted acres
But this is only one part of the Administration’s broader fertilizer strategy.
Since taking office, the Trump Administration has:
✅ Improved fertilizer transportation and supply chain flexibility through targeted actions, including Jones Act waivers and Hours of Service waivers during supply disruptions.
✅ Signed a USDA–
@dojphofficial Memorandum of Understanding to combat anti-competitive practices impacting fertilizer and other agricultural input markets.
✅ Established USDA’s first dedicated Agricultural Economist focused on fertilizer markets, crop inputs, and supply chain analysis.
✅ Worked alongside industry,
@ENERGY, and other federal partners to accelerate some of the largest domestic fertilizer manufacturing projects in the country—projects that could add nearly 5 million tons of new annual production, or more than 20% of current U.S. fertilizer production.
✅ Designated phosphate and potash as Critical Minerals, recognizing their importance to America’s food and national security.
For years, American farmers dealt with record fertilizer prices, supply chain disruptions, and increasing reliance on foreign sources. President Trump is taking a different approach—providing immediate relief today while rebuilding America’s fertilizer manufacturing base for the long term.
This would not be possible without the whole of government approach and work from
@ENERGY,
@EPA,
@CommerceGov, and
@USACEHQ.
Lower costs. More American production. Stronger supply chains. Food security. National security.
That’s what putting Farmers First looks like. 🇺🇸🌾
