🚨 This article by
@Justin_Ling is appalling, even by
@TorontoStar standards.
Rather than examining a complex regional war,
@Justin_Ling presents a narrative in which Israel bears virtually all the blame, while Hamas, the terrorist organization that launched the October 7 massacre and ignited this war, receives virtually no scrutiny. Iran’s central role in funding, arming and directing Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis is never acknowledged, and he presents the conflict in Lebanon as Israeli aggression, never mentioning Hezbollah or the continued threat they present on Israel's northern border.
The article also repeats the claim that Israel has killed 73,000 Palestinians without explaining that the figures originate from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Presenting the number without that essential context leaves readers with a deeply misleading impression. The IDF has said that over 1/3 of those killed in Gaza have been terrorists. As
@SpencerGuard has repeatedly said, "In the Gaza war, Israel has demonstrated a historically low combatant-to-civilian casualty ratio when compared to any urban warfare in history with even remotely similar conditions, especially urban-centric wars, not isolated battles."
Yet, this critically important context is never mentioned.
He further describes Gaza as “the biggest graveyard for journalists in modern history” while omitting the ongoing controversy over individuals counted as journalists despite documented affiliations with Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations.
Finally, the article asserts that unnamed “experts” believe Israel’s campaign amounts to “genocide,” yet never identifies who these "experts" are or allows readers to assess their backgrounds, methodologies, or potential biases for themselves.
Canadians deserve reporting that provides context and transparency, not selective omissions that reinforce a predetermined narrative that vilifies and demonizes the Jewish state.
