Husband, father, brother, son, uncle & friend. President @BaseballHall. Previously @dbacks, @dodgers, @mlb.com, LA native, IU grad. Documenting the journey 🟦
I rarely shoot video of him hitting or pitching. But something told me to break out the camera and film his first AB. I accidentally did it in slow mo (while switching back and forth from doing GameChanger) and sure enough, he hits his first real home run. (5/7)
I’ve known my wife for 28 years. She just saw me looking at a Baseball Reference page and wanted to see how many categories she could name.
She got to PA and asked if that’s the number of times the PA announcer said their name. After I finished laughing, I realized she’s right!
Rollie Fingers has been to 33 straight inductions since his own.
Today, during a tour of our collections vault, we told him we have 40,000 artifacts. He said now you have 40,0001 and gave us a tube of his mustache wax!
Just a random Sunday in collections. Giving an old friend a tour of @BaseballHall and we stumbled upon Babe Ruth’s cap as a coach with the Brooklyn Dodgers. This place truly blows my mind daily. 🤯
How awesome is this? Our first round pick paid off the mortgage on his parents' home for Christmas. Also, someone is cutting onions in here. nitter.app/pavinsmith/status/9453…
.@TomHouse caught Hank Aaron’s 715th homer and gave it to Hank, who later donated it to @BaseballHall. Last night was the first time Tom held it in half a century!
Amazing. Four buddies have been playing Strat-o-Matic Baseball for 50 years and decided to commemorate the anniversary by coming to @BaseballHall and playing it here all day today and tomorrow. There’s just no place like this on the planet.
A little news broke just as our @BaseballHall ceremony was starting on Sunday and it reminded me that we had not yet shared this incredible letter from @POTUS regarding our recent efforts to highlight Black Baseball.
What an honor to receive this letter from the White House.
To honor his memory, let’s get Scott’s book on the best seller list. Had been waiting to buy it when he had a planned book signing in Cooperstown earlier this month. Just bought it and will give my copy to our library, where it will reside forever. 😢
Thrilled to say my new book, Skipper: Why Baseball Managers Still Matter and Always Will, now available via pre-order in advance of pub date next May 13. A definitive look at managing over past few decades, what it was like then, now, why & how its changed

Happy Opening Day from Cooperstown.
There may still be a little snow on the ground but we’re ready to update these standings by hand every day from now through October!
Second day in the office and stunned that I can walk into the plaque gallery just before it opens and see such calm. Hundreds of kids are in line behind me about to be blown away.
Pretty cool thought. Today some young player is likely reporting to Spring Training for the first time and about 25 years from now, will be riding down Main St. in Cooperstown for his own @BaseballHall induction.
My wife is a tremendous photographer and wandered around the Village this morning to capture a few shots around Cooperstown. It’s like a Hollywood movie set.
Watching Team USA say goodbye in the dugout and then Team Japan do the same this morning at our hotel, can’t help but think about the lifelong bonds these teammates made and memories fans will have of that epic final out. This WBC will be remembered for decades to come.
These are 3 of our staff members. Working in sports is incredible but quite often people don’t realize that many in this game get here early in the morning and on a game like last night, they stay until nearly 3 am. I’m honored to call these people (and many others) a colleague.
Just typed today's date & realized it was 23 years ago today I started full-time in MLB. It was 3 days after we traded Mike Piazza & one of my first jobs was helping change out everything. This photo from @JonSooHooPics is from around that time (I was definitely still an intern)
Today marks 90 days in my job and I’ve walked by this statue several hundred times but this morning is the first I’ve passed it since Buck O’Neil was elected to the @BaseballHall. What a special feeling. Couldn’t be happier for everyone who knew and loved him. #TipYourCap
Not only was @RobertDowneyJr a genuinely good guy, he asked what he could do for our staff since they stuck around late @BaseballHall. A very kind gesture that goes a long way. 👊🏼
He meant so much to so many and there will never be another like him. Rarely do your childhood heroes exceed your expectations when you get to know them and yet somehow, Vinny did. May he forever rest in peace. 🙏🏻
This year didn’t go the way any of us had hoped but here are some stats that I’m really proud of:
- 5,804 tests since July 3...not a single positive
- 1 of 9 teams with no positives
What an amazing team effort, as everyone committed to one another & followed through #RattleOn
LIVE BASEBALL ALERT: Tomorrow night at 6 pm we will stream our intrasquad game from Chase Field on dbacks.com with Berthiaume and Brenly on the call. First chance to watch the @Dbacks live in 2020.
Touching gesture by the @FOXSPORTSAZ staff. They swung by Senator McCain’s gravesite while in DC to deliver a @Dbacks cap on Father’s Day. May he always rest in peace.
Today marks the start of my 30th season in baseball. 🤯
If I could go back & tell the 18-year-old Dodger intern that three decades later, he’d be watching #OpeningDay from his office in Cooperstown, there is no chance I’d believe it. Grateful for every single day of the journey
At the end of an overwhelming day, I’m so thankful to everyone who reached out. Going to do my best to respond to each message but in the meantime…. #CopperStateToCooperstown
Our @Dbacks welcome back kits include masks, refillable sanitizer, an all-purpose tool for pushing buttons & more. Press box is spaced out for the limited media coming on site. Proud of our crew for the work that’s gone into getting to this day. #DbacksSummerCamp
Things that have happened since March 28:
- #Dbacks have gone 20-13
- 3rd highest attendance gain in MLB
- Donated $1 million to local community
- Watched NL Rookie of the Year candidate emerge (C. Walker)
This team and organization have had a pretty nice 5 weeks. #RattleOn
We are going to miss this place and the amazing people we’ve met more than I can express in this short clip. Thanks to everyone who welcomed us, supported us and are now wishing us well. Please come to visit! #RattleOn#CopperStateToCooperstown
When Torey Lovullo learned about my class @Cronkite_ASU, he insisted that he wanted to come visit. Then he followed up again to make sure it happened...on his off day! I can’t express how rare that is and how proud & grateful I am that he’s leading this team.
Really cool moment that embodies our upcoming exhibit, Yakyu | Baseball: The Transpacific Exchange of the Game.
Phillies pitcher Koyo Aoyagi gave his own signed cards to teammates and big-time collector @MattStrahm (plus a new pack of cards from Japan) to open up this morning
My senior year at IU, I took Bob Knight’s class, “Technique of Coaching Basketball.” I still have my notes and lots of memories from various interactions over the years but the one I woke up thinking about was the first day of class. What a life he lived. #Hoosiers#iubb
Bruce Sutter’s son, Chad, and grandson were at the Hall yesterday for an emotional visit. The team surprised them with Sutter shirts and it was Caleb’s first time seeing his Grampy’s plaque and artifacts.
@BaseballHall truly connects generations unlike anyplace I’ve ever been.
Imagine telling these 12-year-old kids playing in Cooperstown that someday they would be in the #WorldSeries and that several of them would have artifacts on display at the @BaseballHall they visited. 🤯
One final story is the gift that Vin Scully gave my family - the announcement of my son’s birth. There was no TV in our hospital room but you can imagine my cell phone blew up after this happened. And then he always asked about them. Forever grateful for his friendship & kindness
“Seeing 50,000 fans waving towels, hoping this is their year, or a little boy or girl getting their first autograph scurrying back to the stands to show their mom & dad their latest treasure. Ladies & gentlemen, that’s you, that’s baseball & this is the Hall of Fame.” Jim Leyland
As someone who grew up obsessed with collecting cards, being a part of this Allen & Ginter set is truly hard to fathom. Thank you, @Topps and I hope other collectors enjoy the set that is available starting today. topps.com/pages/topps-allen-…
In celebration of a life incredibly lived, going to share some of my favorite Vin stories today. He pocket dialed me from time to time which led to great conversations, including three days before I interviewed for this job. He couldn’t have been more supportive and encouraging.
Reunited with my old friend Andre Ethier, whose son is playing in Cooperstown this week. Got to show him a couple artifacts he donated back when we were in LA together. #HereToPlay
This is pretty special. My son on the mound, in his #Dbacks Give Back jersey, with his pitching coach Brandon Webb, playing on Brandon Webb Diamonds Back Field. #GenerationDbacks
A final class act by Paul with an ad in today’s Arizona Republic. It was a true honor working along such a humble and talented person. We’ll always be pulling for you, Amy and your whole family.
The scorecard from #Dbacks broadcaster @ChrisGaragiola is headed to Cooperstown after the team batted around twice with an Opening Day record 14 runs in the third inning.
Could not be happier for my friend and golfing buddy, Fernando Valenzuela, whose number will be retired by the #Dodgers tonight. So many hilarious memories from our years together after growing up idolizing him. Felicidades, amigo! #HereToPlay
The oldest living @BaseballHall of Famer turns 93 today!
Say Hey to Willie Mays, pictured here at the 2002 World Series. That was the first time we ever spoke, a group interview for MLB.com in a service tunnel at Angel Stadium & I remember just being in awe!
Our hearts are broken today @BaseballHall, as we lost one of our beloved colleagues, Curator John Odell. He loved this place so much and his fingerprints are on everything we've done for a quarter century. He has left a lasting impact on Cooperstown and all of us here. 🙏
Really cool addition this year, as our curator John Odell took our @BaseballHall Visitor Services staff on a tour of the Autumn Glory exhibit so that they can better serve our guests.
So many amazing moments from last night’s exhibit opening of The Souls of the Game but seeing @SimplyAJ10 show his family his WBC jersey with such pride is definitely going to stand out.
Another visitor to Cooperstown today. Miguel Montero stopped by and saw the cap from Edwin Jackson, whose no-hitter he caught back in 2010! #ArizonaBorn
Great to host CC Sabathia for his first visit to @BaseballHall today with his son’s team. Got to show them his cleats from the first game ever at New Yankee Stadium.
"We didn't allow segregation to stop us from playing, from using our talents and gifts for what we were there for. It was a tremendous blessing to have a gift from God to be recognized as such."
Bill Greason tells @Ken_Rosenthal stories about Willie Mays, Rickwood Field, and playing in the Negro Leagues
Thank you to @Ketel_Marte4, who spent his morning passing out food and items to those in need in his hometown of Nizao in the Dominican Republic. 🙏🏻 #MLB
It’s crazy to have one of your heroes also be one of your close friends. To see this finally happen brings actual tears to my eyes. Congrats, roomie! You are going to be incredible in this job. One of the best people in sports shatters another glass ceiling.
Truly the end of an era! Senior Acquisition and Cataloging Specialist Helen Stiles started working @BaseballHall in 1987 and retires today as our longest-tenured current employee (37 years!!) Her impact will last for generations and we wish her and her family all the best!
A true honor to be at Rickey Henderson’s celebration of life along with @BaseballHall of Fame members Tony La Russa, Dennis Eckersley, Reggie Jackson, Joe Torre, Ken Griffey Jr., Dave Winfield and Frank Thomas and countless others who loved him. What a life! 🙏🏻
