I was deeply saddened to hear of Martin Naughton’s passing last night. He was one of Ireland’s greatest philanthropists whose reach stretched far beyond Co. Meath, Glen Dimplex and the thousands of jobs he created over many decades.

Through the Naughton Foundation he and his wife Carmel supported countless students to progress in the field of STEM and through their many connections in culture, sport and education they helped to strengthen relationships between Ireland and the wider world.

Yesterday, the Irish Defence Forces proudly supported the official opening ceremony of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union at Dublin Castle.
The ceremony marked the beginning of Ireland’s eighth Presidency of the Council of the European Union and brought together national and European leaders, including An Taoiseach, President of the European Council António Costa and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
