The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) has provided Guardian Media with a breakdown showing how the proposed increase in National Insurance System (NIS) contributions will affect workers across all income levels. Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo recently announced a phased 6 per cent increase , with a 3 per cent rise taking effect in January 2026 and another 3 per cent in January 2027,  aimed at protecting the fund and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT) says that while it understands the concerns of some citizens who will soon be required to contribute more to the National Insurance System (NIS), it believes the proposed increases are reasonable. The NIBTT maintains that the adjustment is necessary to protect contributors’ benefits and ensure the long-term stability of the fund.
