The Gardaí are coming out in strong support of keeping drugs illegal because... Apparently cocaine cartels are waiting for decriminalisation to start selling them🤔 Drugs have been in Ireland for decades and criminalising people who use them has failed, especially as poly-drug use is at an all time high and the market is being replaced by synthetic opioids 1,000x times stronger than heroin. At least with safe supply we can ensure conditions are put in place that people must adhere by rather than the current free-for-all black market of unregulated substances for sale tax-free by gangs with more resources than @gardainfo

The Misuse of Drugs Act was introduced in 1977 to protect public health enforced by An Garda Síochána. Now in 2023 the Department of Health are ghosting the Department of Justice for recommendations made by an Oireachtas Justice Committee to regulate cannabis and other plants/ fungi Meanwhile An Garda Síochána announced at #CADrugsUse they are preparing legislation to introduce mandatory treatment for people caught possessing drugs under the new Diversion Programme or an automatic conviction. Regulation of drugs is a "health-led approach" despite the Department of Health's refusal to approach the topic and coerced treatment is proven not to work. Rest in Peace Tangaraju Suppiah who's only offence was possessing cannabis with intent to supply. A total disregard for human life at the hands of Singapore's authority and a misjustice carried out today. I spent a surreal 420 transitting through Singapore and was reminded of their barbaric drugs policy on my visa application. 500g of flowers or 200g of resin carries the death penalty. @IrlEmbSingapore #RightToLife
Devastating news. Attempts to prevent the execution of Tangaraju Suppiah for cannabis offences (by family, activists, NGOs, various Govts, & the UN) have failed. A few hours ago he was murdered by hanging, by the barbaric & shameless @govsingapore 1/ bbc.com/news/world-asia-6539…
